Bitrate Calculator for Magic Lantern Raw Video
« on: March 05, 2015, 11:09:29 PM »
Hi,

I made myself an Excel spreadsheet that calculates RAW bitrates and recording times for various card capacities, so I thought I'd share it.
Mainly you would be plugging numbers in A3, B3 and C3.
Please let me know if you have any ideas for improvements.

I just updated it so that if you change the color depth (which you probably wouldn't normally do) it will plug into the formula (I had it hard-coded to "14" before).

Hey Frank,

Are you handy with a compiler? Would you consider making it a module?

I put a module out recently that presents some menus, does some math, and shows the results at

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=17874.0

It seems the pattern could be adapted to a bitrate calculator.

Regards.

Hi ewinemiller,

I don't have experience doing that sort of thing, but if someone who does wants to try I would be glad to explain any of the formulas that aren't clear from the spreadsheet. The math isn't complicated.

This has helped to plan storage needs for an upcoming video shoot. Greatly appreciated.
