I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but I've done so much searching and I can't find anyone who explains how this works.

I've been shooting normal raw without sound for a few months, using eye frame converter to convert to dng.

How do I shoot with sound? Do I only need to turn the magic lantern video on, record that then just use the right converter?

You need to download a Nightly Build with MLV Version 2.0,
Go to the Main 5D Mark ii Thread "Guide to Installing ML on 5D mkII for shooting with MLV Raw Video with Sound" http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=11205.msg108929#msg108929
Quote2. Magic Lantern Menu:
  -Audio Tab
   MLV Sound>ON  48khz default
(pressing pic style then top scroll wheel will let you choose 48/44.1/22/11/8 khz)
Headphone Mon.>ON (If you need monitoring use av cable with rca to phone jack adapter or a sesscom cable)

I made a short video tutorial on the subject , it a little dated now (1 Year Old) with older links but the info is still validate

There is a few MLV-Raw to Cdng's converters out there as Frame eye convertor is End of Life,
They all can extract the audio , it depend on you workflow and OS platform.
PC ; Raw2Cdng is highly recommended in a Adobe/Blackmagic Resolve workflow with Cinema dng's -->http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5618.msg39204#msg39204

Or "MlRawViewer 1.3.3 (CDNG/MLV/RAW Viewer)" --> http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9560.msg91165#msg91165
You can export .mov ProRes & or Just DNG's

For Mac the "MLVFS - a FUSE based, "on the fly" MLV to CDNG converter" -->http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=13152.msg127218#msg127218
Works very well with the  "Adobe/Blackmagic Resolve workflow"

Personally I use ether raw2cdng (older Version 1.4.9) and  or MLVFS (I have Cross Platform Workflow)with After Effect and ACR plugin and make a Video Legal Color Space ProRes 4444XQ file.

Just for clarity, MLVFS also works for PC (it's what I use).

@Frank7D, How stable is it ?
I have been reading a lot of problems with it on PC side so I have not tried to install on any of my PC's.
That why I have not recommended it for PC.
But I will give it a go & take it for a test drive on my Laptop.

I have no problems with it. Just be aware that the pismo file mount version has not been updated recently (since ayshih has been busy), so it doesn't have the latest improvements/fixes that the mac version does.
