ETTR reduces exposure compensation -2EV sometimes, why?
Because ETTR is trying to protect the highlights. If the scene has a large dynamic range, Canons exposure determination will overexpose the highlights to ensure that the midtones are reasonably exposed (no noise). Because ETTR is designed to protect the highlights, negative exposure compensation is used. This doesn't make it wrong!
As garry23 mentioned above, you can try playing with the
highlight ignore setting in AETTR. If you want to capture the highlights
and shadows of a large dynamic range scene, you need to use dual_iso, or get a Nikon or something.
