Hi all,

I have shot videos for family holidays and odd snippits here and there on my camera but I have never shot anything serious before. I am not thinking of doing some footage more seriously but I have no idea how ML's RAW would help or even how to set it up or process it.

I have the following kit and software.

Canon EOS 7D + lenses.
Sony Vegas 10
Adobe After Effect CS6
Windows Movie Maker Live.
Photoshop CS6

Can anyone please point me in a idiots guides how to process the RAW files.

Some of the questions I have are:

  • What is the file format?
  • Can I just import the RAW footage into Sony Vegas etc?
  • What additional software do I need (Free ones please)?
  • Any very basic tutorials? (I like to print things off and do it rather than youtubeing)

Thanks for any help for this videonoob.

1. It's a custom format based on what's easy for us to generate from inside the camera (outputting to some standard format like CDNG is not possible from directly inside the camera, too much overhead). It needs to be converted in post to a useable format like DNG.
2. No
3. Use one of the tools from the sticky threads here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?board=54.0

Thanks.

So the basic workflow is

Shoot.
Copy the footage to computer.

Use a converter to get it in a reasonable format

Then to sony Vegas or Adobe.

About right.
