I am shooting with a Canon Rebel t3i. I seem to have done something to my Magic Lantern settings so that now, when in live mode, when I press the trigger half-way down the camera shows an "HS" in a red box on the upper right of the screen. When I take the picture, the camera re-searches for correct exposure. If I then press the trigger half-way down again, and release, the camera returns to normal viewing operation. Otherwise, if I take a second shot, the camera then returns to normal viewing.

I tried replacing my Magic Lantern doctored memory card with a clean one. No HS problems. So this HS is coming from something I did, or else some corruption.

Does anyone recognize the symptoms and have a cure? From FAQ I found how to reset all Magic Lantern settings, but I would much prefer to simply cure this one glitch without starting all over.

I have searched the user guide and FAQ about "HS" for an answer to no avail.

Put the camera in "M" mode (or this could possibly be done in movie mode also) and go into the Canon menu using the "menu" button, and scroll along til you find the "Custom Functions(C.Fn)". You'll be able to see a line of 0's to know if they are all at default, sometimes one of those changes for some random reason.

Also search the Canon menu for other settings that may be causing the issue, because if it's happening with a clean card (no ML) then it is a Canon thing.
ML can change Canon menu settings, so maybe it somehow changed something. So search through them.

If all else fails, put the camera in "M" mode and find the "Clear settings" menu, and go into it, you can first try running "Clear all Custom Func. (C.Fn)" and then if that doesn't work do "Clear all camera settings".

@ItsMeLenny
It sounds like he doesn't see this behavior with the a non-ML card, so it's not likely to be a Canon setting.

@Rick W
The behavior you describe doesn't ring a bell for me, but you can see what you have enabled/configured in ML by going to the delta (or "Modified") tab, the rightmost one in the ML menu.  "HS" undoubtedly refers to half-shutter.  Maybe you have a module enabled that is doing exposure control?

Thank you, Ayshih. It appears that I had "sticky half-shutter" set to ON. Once set to off, the problem is gone.
