RAW + 600D (T3I) = IMPOSSIBLE?

Hi all -

I've tried getting RAW working on my T3i and I get the error that it 'stopped before the estimated time' on any resolution of any real use.

I've seen that people are successfully using this camera for RAW, but I don't see how. According to the graph below, my camera can only record at 21mb/s thanks to the card buffer limitation, yet even on 1280 resolution magic lantern tells me to expect 36.8mb/s. So I know why my recording would be stopping. My question is, how are other people doing it with the same camera?

(I'm using nighty build 600D.102 and have benchmarked my SD and it's writing at around 40 mb/s, so all fine there anyway.)

Short of using a 5D III and getting full HD resolutions I think most people are using smaller resolutions and upscaling the 10 to 20 seconds of RAW footage they can get because of the obvious advantage to H.264. You'll have to get creative.

According to the chart the 7D does 80mb/s... that might be a cheaper and ample alternative to the Mark III I'm thinking?

I had a 7D, I wouldn't get another.

It's also one of the few cameras that doesnt get a lot of ML attention. There's currently no developer and it seems like it's harder to make progress on because of the 2 processors.

If you want to do RAW video seriously for video then at this current time 5D III wins all...

Don't forgot about the 5D2 it's has very few limitation and is the Most stable of all the Camera, Can shot up to 2K in Crop,
you can monitor and record the HDMI while recording raw @ near HD resolution (1872x936 or 1856x928) .
The price is coming down for Used, seen them anywhere from $800.0 to $1500.0 for a low activation units (less then 5000), still cheaper then a 5d3
I'm shooting a low budget feature in the Last 2 week of August with my 5D2, more then likely I will be filming @ 2K Crop depending
on the scene thou.

Good luck on the Feature David, I will start shooting a couple of projects in the middle of July till the end of September so what builds are you using?

Thanks, can't wait to starting filming. Tthis is my first DP on a feature it's a horror flick set in a small town ....
I'm still on feb16/2014 NB and Raw oct24/2013 , I keep trying the new builds but there fail to keep up with old ones.
To many Crashes, lockups etc... can't trust them at all. I don't think anyone is really looking in to the 5D2 any more , all efforts are focus
on the 5D3 so don't expect anything new for the 5D2.
