Can someone educate me?

This question is by far a background question, but if some kind sole could point me at a read I would be grateful.

In still mode the lens focuses on to the full sensor surface.

In video mode it must do the same thing.

The question is: how is the video recording handing the differences in pixels recorded, eg does video 'simply' bin pixels? And if so is there an advantage in S/N, ie more captured photon at each site.

As I say, a background question.

It's only halfway confirmed experimentally; I'm still waiting for some tests, so feel free to contribute. No need to compile anything, just take some pictures in some controlled settings, as described in the thread.
