Hello All, last week I had a opportunity to checkout the GH4 4k Camera, I was impressed with it generally .
I thought the Oled monitor was very good & the 1080 60p all i's was very clean and easy to edit but, the 4k
Was not as good as I thought, very weak internal codec  only ibp 100Mb/s H264 4:2:0.
I did have my Ninja on the HDMI, it's an 8bit progressive scan signal but if you don't record internal the HDMI switch's to 10bit.
For 1080 HD & 4k . But real good thing about this cam is the switchable HDMI from 4k 4:2:2 to Full HD 1080p 4:2:2 , not to mention the SDI module
that connects under the cam for Full Video Production  :D
And course it's priced right, I could see my self buying this as a Second/Backup Camera to MLV Raw on my 5D2.
A word on the 4k mode, it's nice and great for re-framing and or center crop to HD, it's as sharp as the 4k image/
Here a short Video I made over the weekend to show the differences, *Note* I had only 1/2 hour to play with the cam
so the shots I took are not the greatest , you have been warned !  :D
In my own opinion Magic Lantern in HD resolution is still Far Superior But then Again it's Raw !

How's the sensor? Rolling shutter? Size? etc :)

Saw this https://vimeo.com/95332707 video on Vimeo where it says 96 fps. Can it record 96 fps or was that made in post for the video?

Crop looked nice, no 3x crop though.
once you go raw you never go back

The sensor is micro four thirds so like all GH series it's 2x crop of full frame,

Didn't see any Rolling Shutter problems but I had any short with it, I do like the reduced d.o.f.  for more of a HDTV look.
I really wanted to test the SDI/HDMI module that attaches under the cam, I think you will see a lot of people buying the cam & module
since the price for both is about $2800.0 , then just get a MFT adapter . I would use for Run & Gun in 4k then just crop to HD , you could in theory have up to
2 maybe ever 3 shots reframed to HD . I would be great in interviews to have a full HD close-up then a long shot in 4k from the same file without any image quality loss.
To my that would be the Only reason to have native 4k recording so I can have a killer HD project  :D

Rolling shutter is there if one was to move extremely quickly side to side. I just sold all my Canon gear 70D and lenses, bought the GH4. It is sharp and colors are terrific. UHD is awesome 4k down converted is way better than any Canon, In my opinion better then Canon 5D MrkIII. I truly am not disappointed. I believe there is room for improvements, but one will only know once someone starts the hack on the firmware.   Id like to post a pick from video how would i do this?
