I would love to have the functionality to shoot still images in crop mode like with videos.  From what I can tell - this is not implemented (?)  I'm using a 600D with TL 2.

Thanks!

when you take a still image, you're already in crop mode (1:1)

Or just shoot in highest resolution, and the camera usually has an option to crop the image.
That's if you just can't be bothered to do it in post.

Thanks for all the replies.  To "ItsMeLenny", correct me if I"m wrong - I thought the crop mode does not crop the original image but is a crop of the sensor - so editing in post would reduce the mega pixels..I'm trying to figure this out.  I read that the 600d 3x crop does not affect the resolution.

You're confusing what happens in video recording, with photo mode.

Take a photo, crop to 1920x1080 pixels.  Crop mode accomplished.  The apparent FOV is smaller, because you have cropped the image.  You didn't actually zoom anything.  And it's the same in video mode.
If you simply resized the entire image to 1920x1080 pixels, the FOV would remain the same as the non resized image.
