Record overlay

I have been able to get sound recording in MLV raw on a 5DMK3, but a few things are different when I record.  It now says preparing for a second or two when I hit the record button.  After that it shows a red to green camera icon with the recording time counting up.  Is there a way to keep my frame guides or exposure tools while recording?  It's hard to frame precisely when it's showing you more than the record area.
