I posted this question on POTN, and was redirected here.

Ok, so to start off, I understand that it has been said many times that Magic Lantern doesn't allow for Live View in the 5D because the hardware and/or original firmware doesn't allow for it. Some have said that the Digic II isn't capable enough to handle the processing power required.

HOWEVER, today I was reading about older Canon models and ran across the 20Da, which has the red-filter replaced AND added Live View. So my question is, what is different hardware wise between the 20D and 20Da? If nothing besides the filter, then theoretically it would be possible to enable Live View for the 5D, and maybe even the 1D MKII?

Just brain storming.

Sorry, just realized this is in the wrong section.  This should be under "Requests", shouldn't it?

20Da was a a hardware modified version of the 20D, manufactured by Canon. Can't be done with software.
