Best way to set frame rate?

Alright, so I'm new to this RAW ML on my 5D Mark 2. I did some test shots earlier, and oh my--the quality is stunning! I did, however, notice some weird skipping around and glitching in my finalized video. I think it might be frame skipping? But at the same time I feel like it couldn't be, since I have Frame Skipping set to OFF, and I have a fast Lexar 1000x card. Can anyone suggest the best way to set up true 23.976 fps? Is it something to do with FPS Override in the ML menu? Thanks guys.

at this time there are many variables since devs are troubleshooting so many aspects of the firmware. Its hard to see what you'r particular "bug" is based on your description. Post a link to a clip or a frame grab so we can help.

Just to be clear, is your canon settings set to 24fps as well?

There are multitudes of setting combinations. What is your resolution?

Provide a breakdown of how you set up your camera/canon settings and how you set up ML.

Yes, my canon settings are set to 24fps.

My resolution is at 1880x1058. Frame skipping set to off, raw_rec and mlv_rec modules turned on. Smallhacks is turned on. Global draw is turned off. I hope this is enough info. Thanks!

What version/date of ML are you using? Did you download from the official nightlies here: http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/

Or are you using a.d.'s compile from here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5533.0

Also, you don't turn ON raw_rec and MLV_rec at the same time or you get errors. Just choose one.

I don't think 1880 is still implemented in new builds. Highest in normal 1x mode is 1872 when you you choose 1920.
1920 is possible only in3x mode.
This is similar in both raw_rec and mlv_rec.

With the card you are using you can use global draw ON on the mkII and it won't affect you in most resolutions.

I'm just experiencing performance issues and frame corruption using global draw on the 7D.

I am using the files from a.d.'s compile, also using the 2/14 version. Ah, I felt like having both modules on at once would affect something.

Not using FPS override in normal mode is fine. Its a must though in crop mode and make sure its set at EXACT Framerate not Lowlight.

As mentioned in another thread, you can't do long recordings at that resolution you are using on the 5D2, only at around 23 to 30 plus seconds.

You can go long and continuous at 1856 at 2:1 or 1728 16:9 and other combinations lower when using MLV with sound.

Interesting. Somehow I manage to get an average of 60 seconds, sometimes more, using 1880 16:9 resolution.

ted ramasola

you are correct. I just checked now. I wasn't using raw_rec for a while due to MLV +snd. But yes, you can get slightly more than a minute.
You can also just use global draw with on screen info as it will give you about the same record time.

And you are also correct that 1880 is there in raw_rec for feb 14 a.d.. It's not in mlv.

Quick question, what card are you using on your 5D2? And what are your average read/write speeds?

ted ramasola

I have the lexar 32gig 1000x I also have several KomputerBay CF cards.

I also have tested several of KB cf cards including a couple that were not released.
I was testing at one time the 256 1200X CF when it was new.
I have posted my tests here in case you are interested: http://www.ramasolaproductions.com/6.html

These were done last year.
The lexar 32gig 1000x

compare it with kb 64

KomputerBay is also constantly updating their CF with firmware that will make them compatible with ML.
I'm waiting on another 128 1050X with new firmware that they are sending.

Thanks for the info, Ted. I can't seem to get my Lexar 32gb 1000x benchmark tests over 75MB/s. Did you format the Lexar card in any particular way on your computer, before installing magic lantern?

ted ramasola

no, nothing special just in camera after updating ML.

Just some notes, did you do your benchmark in photo, playback mode? it gives diff result if your in lv mode.

Also, remember this was an old test. It could give me a different result if I did it now.

Don't worry about the benchmark so much, based on the recording tests you did , I was able to confirm I got around the same  result.

Which is about a min at 1880.

According to the test, it says that I did it in 'photo' mode. How would I go about doing it in playback mode? Is playback mode otherwise known as lv mode? The more I am researching these benchmark tests, the less worried I'm getting. I figured about a minute of rec time in 1880 is pretty decent.

ted ramasola

Yes, photo is, I hope I'm right, playback mode, movie mode is when LV is on.

Playback is playback, photo is when you set your camera to take photos, movie is when you set your camera to record videos.

How do I create a benchmark in playback mode? I can only access the ML menu when I'm in photo mode, or LV mode. Thanks!
