I'm running a 2012 17" macbook pro with 16gb ram. I use external g-tech drives--one for storage and a g-raid for processing. I shoot mlv_rec and raw_rec on my Canon 5D mark II (VAF-5d2b, 32gb 1000x lexar).

Ater some time figuring out a workflow for processing ML raw video on my mac (rawmagic for raw_rec or terminal script for mlv_rec THEN after effects to export prores mov files for editing), it's eating into my computer processing power and slowing everything down. I need to use my mac for other work while it's processing.

What I'd like to do--and where I need your help--is to build a computer specifically built for processing the raw video FAST and editing in PP or resolve. It doesn't need to be a mac--what's more important at this point is that the computer/drives combo processes the files as fast as possible without spending a fortune... a sweet spot between fastest processing and price regardless of platform.

I was thinking the new macpro (http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/buy-mac/mac-pro) with 32gb ram and an external g-speed drives (http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-speed-es), but that brings the total to over $5k, which is steep.

If I can get the same speed with a non-mac (as much as it breaks my heart to go non-mac) for the purposes stated and it would mean saving at least 50%, I'd be game.

Ideas?

Thanks.
