Use case: Recording longer lectures

I've tried recording a debate which lasted a couple of hours with breaks inbetween, with my 550d on stock firmware. Naturally I ran into the 4gb file recording limit which forced me to hang around my camera and re-pressing record. Audio was recorded separately and I was able to deal with the gaps in video by having this separate, uninterrupted audio and splicing in video of the audience to deal with the lack of video.

Would be great if there was a checkbox in Magic Lantern which enabled less-than-perfect continuous shooting (I recognize it would be loss of video): Somehow an option for auto-continuing 4gb video recordings.

I've briefly looked into the source code (like just now). Looks like it's written in Java? I might just try to jump in there myself to try and add it, but it seems a bit dodgy for me. Is there a tutorial out there that shows some sample workflow?
