Hey guys, I ordered the 128gb 1050x cf card by Komputer bay and it works... but...

I can't reliably record the mlv format with audio at 1920x1080 24p.

50% of the time I can get it to record but skips a frame once it gets to 4gb and needs to start the next file.

The other times its un reliable how many frames ill get. And it  never gets past the 4gb mark.

At the res 17xx I can record over 4gb. Ive recorded 4 minutes of video and audio at the res. (Haven't tried to test farther than that.)

Ive hears the 32 and 64gb cards from Komputerbay are faster than the 128gb.  I'm just trying to find the realistic performance of the cards.

Can I press record... with global draw on/off. And record till the card is full at 1080p raw on these smaller cards?

And also the cf buffer option I've got at default. Os there a certain setting to find on those to make it more stable?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you run benchmarks on the card? Please post them along with your nightly version.

What are the proper steps to benchmarking? Playback mode gives an un realistic result compared to video mode with live view up.

Very possible. When I purchased my KB cards back in september all the 128 GB cards were way too slow for continuous raw in 16:9 - especially with sound (which did not exist back then). Only the 64 GB cards were fast enough.
And we never read a post or heard anything that the bigger cards got faster, only the premium cards like Lexar were properly working for raw in 128 GB sizes.

I just loaded up the Nightly build for today 2/3/14

Both tests done in Mode: Movie 1920x1080 24p

2 fastest with GD ON
Write speed (buffer=16384k): 90.7MB/s
Write speed (buffer=15625k): 91.2MB/s

2 fastest with GD OFF
Write speed (buffer=16384k): 92.0MB/s
Write speed (buffer=15625k): 91.7MB/s

On this build I was able to record past 4gb once and skipped at 11gb. then when i tried again it stopped at 4 gb at 1920x1080.

I'm doing all the video recording tests with sound since thats why i would need to record more than 4gb.

It says that 1080p should only require about 82.9mb/sec and my cards are benching at 90s for there fastest buffer. shouldnt that be enough to cover audio and be stable?  What do the 64gb cards test at on a fresh format? is it in the 100s?

I'm not sure how realistic it is to want the buffer meter to jsut stay in the first bank instead of shooting up to 3.5 bars and then slowly going down every so often. Am I wanting something that isn't possible?

I've heard not so many good things on the Komputer Bay cards, so I'm curious if you'd have better luck on a lexar or something.

jonnyginese

I've seen many reports of people using the komputerbay stuff will success.

What are the tests with 64gb lexar vs KB on movie mode with and without GD on at 1080 24p

Stay with the 64gig 1000x KB for ML use. They are faster and reliable than the 128 1000x and 1050x.

I've tested the large capacity ones extensively since July posted on this thread : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7302.0

Even the 256gig 1200x was not practical to use on the 5d3 and 5d2 when i tested it last august. : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7801.0

I will be ordering another batch of 64gig from KB this week and I'll try to ask if there are new developments on the higher capacity CF, for now stick with 64gig for MLV or Raw_rec.

Ok, so I just ordered a 1000x 64gb Komputerbay card. I'll see how it goes compated to the 1050x 128gb KB i have already.

The 128 seems to need just a tad more speed and it would be solid. Hopefully this 64gb card will do it.

thats correct. based on tests, its just slow by a little bit. :) But looking at other brands like transcend for instance, the write speed is slower on the 128gig 1000x as compared to their 64 or 32 gig 1000x.

I have a question, I just picked up one of the 128gb KB cards and I want to test it out on my Mark iii but im curious what happens if the card is to slow? does it wreck the camera or card? or will it just skip frames and not record properly? Id prefer not to damage the camera or card but i just want to make sure i understand  what happens if its not fast enough.

ChadMuffin

Your camera will either skip frames or stop recording. You can specify. It does not hurt your camera or card.

Thanks so much for the info about the KB 64gb 1000x card. I got it today and was able to record till the card was filed up with Raw 1080p 24fps with MLv sound.

As soon as I press record it says continuous record OK. And when it switches over from one 4gb file to the next the buffer only fills up 1 out of 4 then goes back to almost no buffer being used.

I wonder if KB will take back my 128gb 1050x card even though I've had it for a months. I'd gladly send it back to get 2 64gb cards and pay the difference... I think the 128gb card is about $170... And 2 64gbs are about $225.
