Hi there,

on my 5dmk2 I can't seem to get through a benchmark without the camera freezing on the screen and me having to pop out the battery. Any clue as to why this may be?

I'm testing a 32gb transcend 1000x and the results that I CAN get are disappointingly slow. Only getting around 46-55mb/s write speed if I'm reading this correctly. Supposed to be "Up to 160mb/s" write for this card.. Not sure if it's a bad card or what do you guys think?

any hints or tips appreciated.

Also am I running an older version of the raw record module because I see some people's screenshots with more advanced options. All I see for options is "Start" "Width" and "Height" in which custom resolutions don't seem to be available (ie. presets skips from 1320 to 1920)

Thanks!

okay I tried to do a fresh install now I'm getting a FONTS.DAT not found error. Hmm.. I'm doing something wrong.

1. format card in camera

2. drag over 5D2-212.fir from ML website download on to root folder of EOS Card

3. Now from this other folder "magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2014Jan25.5D2212" I am dragging over autoexec.bin and ML folder which contains modules etc.

Is this not how you do it?

after you have already enabled the bootflag on your mkII you do not need the .fir file anymore for updates. You use it one time only.
From the nightly updates you only use the autoexec.bin and the ML modules which you update your CF card containg ML by copying OVER the old ones, you don't delete the other old files of course.

Okay might seem like a dumb question but how is the bootflag enabled? Is it already enabled? Do I use that EOS card app? Or is it the .fir file that changes the bootflag?

Sorry as there seems to be a plethora of different tutorials and ways to do this and it becomes rather confusing between cameras.

So, I go about installing ML like I normally would with the standard 2.3 files? After I install I take the card back out and replace the old files AND delete the .fir file?

Much thanks

when your camera has already ran ML previously, you can delete the fir file on later updates on your CF card.
Your bootflag was enabled when you first performed the firmware update via canon menu.

Okay thank you

so I reinstalled and got the newer module working. Ran the read/write benchmark. It ran all the way through 9/9 reading: 99/100 and then stopped which Im assuming is normal because it wasnt frozen and I didnt have to take the battery out.

The read and write speeds seemed much better especially towards the end. Up to 75mb/s this time. Is the card warming up? How to really tell if your card is not performing up to the card's standards?

Noob question: I don't see the load modules button? Has it moved?

Those benchmarks are about right for the mkII.

What version did you load and from what link? There are 2 to 3 that I watch out for. The Official ML nightlies which do not have the Sound module.
The MLV 2.0 thread which I monitor for changes in the MLV_rec and a.d. 's version which has some 5d2 specific "enhancements".

that file is supposed to be there since I just DL'd it myself. You must have not copied all of the contents of ML folder to your CF.

I'm testing every nightlies. My recommendation to you is to use Jan 6 from a.d. here: https://bitbucket.org/a_d_/magic-lantern/downloads

Use the Jan 6 as the 14th has issues not yet fixed and same with the nightlies. I'm reporting my tests with it in a moment on the proper threads.

That zip from the link I gave you will also have the sound mo. its ok to use for now. -Until further notice.

After you've succesfully installed that I recommend following/bookmarking this thread to keep up with developments for the 5DmkII.

Okay

I'm going to format the card and start fresh. I won't be needing sound as I record on an h4n. Is it still the best version for a stable raw record?

thanks for the help.

yes the 6th is ok for both MLV and RAW_rec. I've already tested the sound and it will sync after a 2 frame nudge. Which is also what happens even with h264.

You can use HDMI out to monitor. Just turn off global draw as the overlays does not translate well over HDMI. AND when your done using HDMI, be sure to reboot your cam to get back LCD live view functionality.

Thanks for the guidance my friend!

Everything seems to be running smoothly and pretty good at 1800x800 for that build.

cheers
