IMO "Rec709 + use camera matrix + disable cyan highlight fix" looks fine with vibrant colors, second one seems more natural.

Wow I had not the chance to watch, it's incredible ! Regardless of the acting, editing, music, writing, it feels a lot like a 35 mm camera !  the way the camera balance, the low contrast... The grain you added, the nice warm highlights ! This is candy for the eyes and ears !

There is a tool to clone stamp them withinn MLV App and also in DR.

But also a good advise is to turn off and let cool you camera sometimes. The longer it is ON and recording, the hotter it will make the sensor, and produce noise.
#29
i have them appear sometimes when too much under exposed.
#30
I do, and I use a Freewell monitor, everything above 1080p will give you a real time cropped x5 preview, 5K will appear flattened.
#31
I tested it and it's very efficient.

you have to record 10s of dark clip right after your shot if possible, with the same settings, as the sensor will generated the same noise patterns. then check what the guy does in the video below on how to use that dark clip.

very nice point !

Do I simply copy and replace the ML folder and autoexec.bin currently on my SD card with the ones provided in this build?

Yes.

(already answered here https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19300.msg233582;topicseen#msg233582)

Hi All,

Very basic question here.  I've scoured the forum and I might have just missed it.  I'm looking to move from magic lantern nightly 2018 Jul03 build to crop_rec_4K (5D31.1.3).  The information that I seem to have found suggests that I simply copy and replace the crop_rec_4K ML folder, autoexec.bin and MLsetup.fir onto the SD card.  Is that correct?  If anyone could point me in the direction of a post or resource that would explain the process I would be very grateful.  Many thanks and apologies for the beginner question.

yes totally, just take the new files and delete what was in your card. you will probably have to adjust the settings again, according to you taste, as the pref file will be new too.

It's more complicated than that. It all depends on what resolution, what bit, if raw or h264... with or without sound... all of that use different amount of space. It's not possible to quantify it as in "time".

Plus ML is based on pushing the limits of memory writing.

For example with experience I know more or less that 30 sec of 3.5K in 14 bits loss less is about 1GB.

You have to think in "space available "not in "time" and simply buy more stock of cards... I have 3 CF (2x64 GB and 128 go) and a 128 GB SD for card split record.

Its always ''cool'' to credit the music artists in our videos.

I modified the vimeo's description and here is the complete list of the songs if you're interested :

"By the grave" by Anton Belov
"Eschaton" by Chris Coleman (rework by Tony Anderson)
"Seen" by Chris Coleman
"The epilogue" (instrumental) by Chptrs

What grain did you use? Cinegrain or built in Resolve grain? Or similar product?

the answer was here ;) :

as always, I added a grain footage over all the render to give a finished touch.

To elaborate : It's a stock footage. I apply it over all the rendered export from DR, at the step of stabilisation in After Effect. It's a simple grain stock footage like one you can find here : https://tdcat.com/downloads/filmgrain

Vimeo does a good job preserving [...] the grain.

Sure it does that's why I prefer uploading to Vimeo :)

Nothing wrong with a drone shots. I assume it's up to your personal taste.
IMHO it's nice and adds special vibe  ;)
Cheers

Yes :) It's already incredible that I'm able to do it with a entry drone like the DJI Mini 1 :)

Once again...
But dude, QUIT THE FREAK!NG DRONE SHOTS!

Why destroy this piece with some overrated drone shots ?! They just don't fit at all and completely break the vibe:
Your great camera work really allows us viewers to feel like being on site and then u completely annihilate this great feeling with some imperialistic aerial shots, which snatch us completely back to reality since we're reminded by them, that is just a video...

Please forgive my hard words, but the love for your work made me do it.

Thank you for your understanding.

It is what it is, just a video where I record the mood I personally felt while on site, with the goal to offer various angles.

TBH I feel lucky just to be able to do all of that. Using a drone to capture shots that can look descent is my own pleasure. I don't see why I wouldn't use two or three aerial shots in my own movie. I am aware that such things labelled as drone movies are quickly overrated. I always try to avoid crazy stereotyped 40s long 360° shots of the same spot... To me a drone is another camera, just higher from the ground, that I intend to use with simple moves like pan, tilt, going forward...

If you are curious about my though on correctly using the camera of a drone I did a youtube video (in french but with EN subs) here :

Thanks. You're right ! I generally publish on youtube and the songs are automatically tagged in the description, but I forgot to do so on Vimeo.

Also, when using content from Musicbed (which I pay a subscription) I'm not required to credit the artist or Musicbed.

i welcome your suggestion, and from now on I will add the credit also directly in the video :)

Hello Danne, I have two questions, how does one manage to create its own presets (or the list is full) ? And does the function of restoring ML when formatting not compatible with your version ?

Nice video!

All other applications (that I know) will read the stretching metadata inside the cDNG and stretch it automatically, because MLVApp saves it inside the cDNG.

Really ? I haven' t tried "ML DNG" on Premiere, as the playback isn't as smooth as in DR. Is the desqueezing rendered as clean as wuth MLV app (compared to DR resize artifacts) ?

Thank you ! I was deeply inspired by your videos arround Seattle to go further into pixel peeping art :)

I think you should not use FPS override. if you want 25 fps then switch to PAL and select 1080 ALL-i @ 25 fps in the canon video compression options.
#46
You can get 45 fps with 1080p.

1920x1080 24fps 25fps 38fps 45fps
1920x1050 48fps
1920x960 50fps
1920x804 60fps
#47
so you had to stretch back the footage in post ? do you know that there is a preset to use for slow motion mode, to get better quality with 3x3 and almost no aliasing.
#48
and if you could add 8K RAW + 5G WIRELESS  would be great thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu

(just kidding  ;D !)
#49
thanks for trying !

how many attempts ?
