I've done a small change on my fork and it seems to help with flickering in some clips (not all)!
The problematic video from this post it's muuuch better now.
Before, this video was showing different issues when Alias Map or Fullres Blending were active, but now looks good when "horizontal stripes fix" is enabled (finally found a use for this fix  :D )

Did a windows build in case someone wants to try: https://mega.nz/file/A1tiTASK#OK46h1pPjzsJDILuHyoGQNbLWM6VVm0u7lUfm41CE1A

Edit: It seems to introduce horizontal lines where they were not present before... Using the "horizontal stripes fix" is an option but the result is not perfect, needs more work...
nice..
dual iso flicker disappear but there is horizontal stripes flicker instead

I see.. many thanks bilal!

Hello!

Good samples, unfortunately the issue is coming from Dual ISO processing algorithm, not from my builds. I only tested MLVApp and there is flickering. Didn't test cr2hdr, may work better.
More likely it's something related with black level in Dual ISO processing algorithm.

Oh.. I see, thanks for explanation.

-But why you are uisng 12-bit uncompressed?

AFAIK, Dual ISO works better in 14-bit (either uncompressed or lossless), but for lower bit-depths and for Dual ISO, always use lossless, it works better than uncompressed lower bit-depths.
And that's probably because black level there is same as 14-bit lossless (maybe that's why Dual ISO works better at lower bit-depths in lossless).

I use 12-bit just for experiment only, because I saw in ML note that 14-bit lossless recommended iso < 100 that's why I tried 12-bit uncompressed lol.
so, is it better to use just 14-bit lossless for all other recording too?

Correct, it seems you are using Full "Shutter range" in "Crop mode" submenu. This way you will need to read shutter speed from ML menu to get the correct shutter speed, and not from Canon overlay which would be incorrect.
ah.. I see, thanks bilal.. problem solved

hi bilal,
I got dual ISO flicker issue using 1440p 1x1 100/800 pressed record in 10x view
and one with standard raw 3x3 recorded in 5x view

here: Sample Files

btw, when using preset the shutter is changing now.. not 180° or 1/50?

thanks.

What do you want to use on 700D?
Dual ISO waterfall lines fix is already implemented.

ow I didn't realize that..  :D
I thought this is something new

thank's bilal you are the best!

New build:
Added yet another fix for in dual_iso.c to prevent unpatch error.

can it be used in 700d?

Canon 13x zoom, 7.5 - 97.5 mm, f 1.4

I mentioned this lens in a post long, long ago, but I have significantly improved its performance since then, Using the ML 3x crop feature.

Here's a still photo of the lens mounted on the EOS M (in a YouTube container, AFAIK you can't attach photos in this forum?):

https://i9.ytimg.com/vi_webp/qJvnPw7obzo/mq2.webp?sqp=CNifk58G-oaymwEmCMACELQB8quKqQMa8AEB-AH-CYAC0AWKAgwIABABGFQgYShlMA8=&rs=AOn4CLBPE4loQx6-eQEjlBxo23QiZeN9Dw

Note the dark grey tube behind lens & camera, it contains the secret of the improvement!

Detailed explanation in the "Share Your Videos" thread: https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=26787.msg242174#msg242174
you can try using this https://imgbb.com/ then paste code generated to post, usually I use bbcode full to attach photo

I've updated a branch that applies twice the focus pixel fix for dual ISO, the second one after the dual ISO processing, like a non-dual ISO video, and the results are much better on my tests. More obvious on binning modes due to larger stretched pixels, but less artifacts in all modes.
A comparison, better download and switch from one to another:

No focus pixels fix:

Normal fix, the current one:

Double fix:

nice!

btw danne, what makes dual iso flickering? thanks.
sometimes I got flickering too..

I cut each file to 2 seconds like you said (MLV Fast Pass), to give enough time to see flicker and aliasing artifacts, if any. Those files are just huge by file transfer standards :)
I see..
I have downloaded your file I thought it's just one mlv clip 😅

for now I just having fun with xxx/800 and 1440p 1:1 preset from bilal's crop rec..
dual iso is great feature if there is no issue.

Here are more MLV files you can use to check the effects on hair, fur, colors and textures.
Some of the dirty pixels trapped in the thin strands of hair can be reduced by playing with CA Correction and CA Desaturate, but not all.

Please Download ASAP, I will remove tomorrow as my drive is very full :)

http://bit.ly/3jvWL6c
to save space I think you just have to cut in out about few frames in mlvapp then export to mlv file again as a sample file..
but I don't know if it makes any different in quality.

In the meantime:

Proof of Concept: 1736x868 @ 50 FPS WORKS with correct preview :D (high FPS modes can work with real-time correct preview)
I figured out why it wasn't working before (it was choppy and casues corrupted frames), a coder error :P

wow.. nice! can I test it?

the color looks fine I think..
nice lens

Steps to reproduce?
I'm not aware of that..
but I will report then in your thread Bilal's crop_rec_4k experiments for 650D / 700D (T4i / T5i) if it happens again.

max resolution is 2520 x 1080 from 1736 x 976 from what I have tried..

1080p mode has 1736x1160 RAW resolution, if we could reduce vertical resolution to 1736x976 16:9 or 1736x738 2.35:1 and got preview working (not frozen) we can definitely gain more FPS.

When recording I accidentally use 5x zoom in 1736x976 mode 25fps (canon setting) and the fps changed to 29.954 maybe it gives you something to investigate..
I like using this "accidental mode" when use wide lens 🤣
but sometimes I got freeze LV too..

manual focus training test..
I wonder why I like close up than wide shoot, it looks better to my eyes.

Write speed is affected by many factors like resolution and FPS, it varies from video mode to another, also from crop preset to another.
Higher resolution and FPS means reducded write speed compared to less resolution preset or lower FPS. Anyway the hacks help in all kind of settings.

You shouldn't compare write speed in a preset to another, but compare write speed in one preset like this: once with hacks disabled and once with hacks enabled.
Also, all hacks got disabled if you are not recording, benchmarks in video mode will always show write speed without the hacks.
thanks bilal.
I use play mode and the test look stable now
with all hack enable I can record 1440 1:1 preset with longer duration

easy to test. forget about card benchmark it's meaningless. set your resolution to something higher than you can record continuously. record a short clip. check raw menu for sustained bitrate. add a hack. test again. add another hack, test again, keep going back to raw menu to check the write speed that was achieved during previous recording. use the settings that produced the highest write speed during recording

ok thanks.

For me, I get the best write speed when all hacks are enabled.
Also, check this article, also mentinoed in first post in my 650D/700D thread:

noted..

How do you do your benchmarks? like in Play mode or Video mode?
Do you change Camera or ML settings among benchmark passes?
I benchmark using video mode..
I benchmark first then taking video 10s each with changing ML setting like dualiso, crop preset and iso when I feel the speed drop I check benchmark again.

Quote from: theBilalFakhouri on January 26, 2023, 05:32:52 AM
First step to do if you have speed drops is to perform a "low level format" in camera from Canon menu, then run benchmarks as many time as you want in the same mode/settings . . benchmarks should give very similar results everytime.

oh..ok thanks.
I'll try to low level format and enable all hack then.

What do you mean by "best setting"? What are you looking for?

I mean is it just use 1+2 hack and 240mhz only or anything else need for speed..?
somehow the speed is drop sometimes when I benchmark again..
