What exactly the resolution is for 3.5K, the aspect ratio and bit rate that works best? How long can you record for before it crashes and you need to take out the battery to start going again?

With the latest Danne's Build. It's continuous in 12 bits, 2.39 or 2.35 in realtime crop preview, card spanning, and Sd hack enable (better results with sandisk 170mbs or 95 mbs).
pretty stable, no crash for me.

14 bits and a little higher vertical resolution should work too.

Nice but a little too soft at my taste.

Why don't you use 3,5k mode? Work as well and there is less crop factor (super35  look).

Nice! Very natural look.
Which lens did you used?

Awesome !
Very nice shots of the city. Good job.

3,5 K(3584x1300) Vs anamorphic (1920*2340).
5D Mark III

I also made  tests, i think than 5k anamorphic is really much better than full hd upscaled and very close to 1:1 mode. Not true, mathematically 5k anamorphic has more pixels than 3k at the same ratio (2:46) 1920x2340 =4 492  800 pixels, 3072x1248 = 3 833 856 pixels. It's true that 1:1 is sharper but it's not so easy to see a difference in detail even in 3,5k.

I agree with IDA_ML, to be more scientifique, close shoot is not the best choice because of the variation of depth of field.
A landscape should be a better choice.

Let's buy a 5Diii to theBilalFakhouri! The ML communauty wants to help all developpers (especially the realtime previous which is the holy grail :D) we're just waiting for a solution.

For EOS M 4.5K anamorphic has a crop of ~1.18x.

I added APSC crop factor x1,6

Loved it!

Technical note: some scenes were a bit too over exposed, didn’t look like they were overexposed in camera, just the general exposure pushed too much. The grade matches across the film, but exposure is jumping a bit (in some scenes, match the scenes and mix the sound and you‘ll have a great film for the festivals, if that is your thing.

Also 5D3 raw upscales very nicely with the right algorithm.

Good luck.

Thank you for your feedback! yep ... postproduction needed.
I know there is some jumps in exposure, i have to improve the colour editing, i pasted the attributs and it doesn't fit very well on each shot and i balanced quickly.
but there is no overexposed.
otherwise not enough light on some shots but it was a choice to use no equipement. My next short film will be shoot in 5k anamorphic with more technic!

Wich algorithm is the best for upscaling do you think ?

Thank you!

Best regards

Yes it will be great to add these two. I Nevers use 16/9.

Yes. 5k anamorphic (crop~ x2).

Here is a short film I made on 5Diii with classic fullhd raw. It was shot as a documentary with almost only handly shots and a microphone fixed on the camera...
Not the best quality compared to new 3,5k mode ! But full HD still worth.

French, dutch, english and welsh langage with english subtitles.

Ps: sound still need mixing

If the Black Bar limit appears when we attempt to process more than 2048 RAW data width in LiveView. Maybe we could "move" this black bar to show the other side of the frame and then switch between these two previews.

It works, thank you Bilal. But it's difficult to keep concentration on the screen with the stuck frame bug or the white noise in the bottom.
I've found a little trick to keep the black bar in the bottom screen by pressing menu button untile the black screen appear then quickly toggle to framing mode by pressing focus button.

We can also toggle in photo mode and quickly go back in video mode.

I also notticed that if we reduce resolution, in 2,5k mode, the preview is still the same and then larger than the correct frame. It's better than the otherwise!

UHD 2.39 is "only" 6.170 880 pixels (3840x1607) less than in this case : 6.200 320 pixels (3584x1730)

It means you have fixed the liveview in 1x3... :o
What a great periode for ML!

Thank you Danne! I look forward to test the new build.
With next uncropped realtime preview this old camera will become a brand new 4k camera! ;)

Interesting.  Try to compare 3k or 3,5k raw with 4k from R6. Could be surprising.
Basiquely, a camera like R6 with autofocus and ibis should be usefull for low budget corporate film, interviews.. but not an avantage for an artistic short film where magic lantern should be still a good choice.

How did you manage with the crop factor? Which ens did you use for 5k anamorphic ?

Thank you Bilal, you are a wizard! Realtime preview without global draw it's crasy. You gave a big boost with sd overclock and now realtime preview!
Will it be possible to have good ratio for 1×3 mode too? Porting on EOS m should be easy but on 5diii and 5dii more work to do.

Nice shots, beautiful colours, beautiful Mountain !
How many seconds did you get before stop?

Very cinematic footages!.
Which resolution can you reach by shooting in 2.20 ratio? More 3k than 3,5k, i guess.

Modules Development / Re: Danne's crop_rec_4k & ISO experiments
« on: August 08, 2020, 03:36:32 PM »

Global draw needs extra resources, so it slow down the maximum writespeed.
maximum speed with Cardspanning and overclocking for now is BTW. 131MB/s (Nobody knows why).

True for UHD mode but you can reach higher writespeed in 4K half FPS or 5'7k full liveview (170 MB/S -100 CF +70 SD).

Hi all,

l did a little comparative test of the sharpness between the 3k, 3.5k UHD, 4K 12.5FPs, 5.7k 7fps, 5k anamorphic, fullhd, fullhd h264 modes. I shot with an EF L 24-105 canon Lens at F.14 compensating the cropfactor. All were upscalled or downscalled in 4k (true 4096) which I take as a reference resolution. We can see that the sharpness is better in 1: 1 mode than in anamorphic mode, but the difference is minimal. The difference between UHD and 3.5k is not really obvious. The FullHD is very mushy and the h264 ... let's not even talk about it;) In conclusion, the most interesting modes are
 - the anamorphic mode because there is no crop and a real-time feedback, the loss of sharpness compared to 3.5k is not so bad. it looks very well in 4k.
- 3.5k mode, the crop factor is only 1.6 and there is still usable feedback (zoom x5). But the ratio is wider than the 2.39. If you want more vertical resolution you have to go to 3k.

 - full HD, it's ugly but it works so well!

Thank you Danne for your  incredible  build!
