I also recommend trying out grading in MLV App

Is there any tips on this forum for grading? I couldn't figure it out when I tried to grade in it.

So, it seems maybe I just want to export dng losless?  What gamma curve thing should I use?

If you export to CinemaDNG Uncompressed or CinemaDNG loseless then you don't have to apply any "gamma curve" in MLVapp. All of that info will still be in the dng file.

What picture profile should i use?

If you are using Resolve, just try different presets until you find one that you like and then tweak it. I use After Effects and most times I just click "AUTO" and then tweak the sliders until i find something I like. You may want to give that a try.

Also when shooting raw video do I want to expose to the right a little also?

You def want to expose to the right! Keep that iso as close to 100 as possible.

Was this graded? What's the file size/bitrate looking like?

Also thanks for doing a test with subjects! It's way more helpful than videos of micro plants.

i use premiere pro and resolve workflow. premiere pro plays 1080 raw in realtime but not in resolve so i cut in premiere pro and grade in resolve. rendering is way faster in resolve  in my 10yr old laptop with just 2gb graphic card

How do you import 1080p raw in premiere? I thought premiere can only "see" in 8bit anyway.

Just curious as to what's going on here. I was a complete slave/loyalist to the After Effects to Premiere workflow on my PC when editing Magic Lantern RAW video. I loved the camera raw process using the script importer. BUT...

I finally tried Resolve and was amazed with how easy it was to just import DNG folders with sound already enabled. And Resolve is SOOOOOO much faster.

My Computer Specs are:
i7-9700K OverClocked to 5ghz
2x 1080 ti's
48GB RAM

After effects barely can even load one frame per second when playing back 1080p MLRAW video. But Resolve plays with NO LAG.

Does anyone know why Resolve is so much faster? Are my after effects settings wrong? My GPU usage is actually increased when Resolve is running but not so much with After Effects.

Also I kind of remember KB saying they had a lifetime warranty, now not even answering email. I've got 7 of their cards, had 1 slow ones of the first batch (understendable), one dying outside shooting, one (this one) dying after one full day of shooting, thanks god only establishing shots for a docu but still.
If I get a refund I'm not buying another one from them I'm sorry. I'm going Lexar.

Lexar is trash man.

Consider going with a smaller card. The 64GB's that I've had have worked flawlessly for years now. CF cards weren't meant to go past 64GB anyway. 128GB and most other NAND based cards will have close to 3000 write cycles before failing.
#307
Yeah I had a 128GB that died out recently on me too after about a year. Amazon's really really good with refunding.

3-Continuous recordings at maximum resolution.

I hope we can reach MJPEG by 2020.

Define "maximum resolution" O_o

Trick question -- there is no "Main Build" or Stable Build or Release Version for that matter. There is a "unified" branch which is the main development (a.k.a. trunk) and as the name implies, all of the supported cameras work on that branch. Note that the 100D, 70D, 1200D and other newer ports are not in the unified branch yet.

When does an experimental branch or new port get merged into this unified branch? Only when it has been tested thoroughly tested to make sure it is working on all the supported platforms. Note that only the main developer can make changes to the unified branch on the hudson repository.

I found a problem in the raw_video_10bit_12bit_LVState branch and lossless compression doesn't work on the Digic IV cameras. The next merges into unified will probably be qemu, new-dryos-task-hooks and lua_fix. How do I know?

Nice read. Answered my question and more. Thanks dfort

Ingenious timing ...
https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=23927.msg215599#msg215599

That didn't really answer my thought. I know that A1ex is taking a break. Or maybe it did answer it... Maybe I just did not understand how much of an influence a1ex had over an experimental build becoming a main build. I was asking because I thought that there was some sort of process of timing (maybe 6 months of an experimental build working) for it to become a main build. Just thought it was discussed before or something.

Hello ML community,

I was just wondering how long does it take for an experimental build to be featured on the main downloads page. I was trying to explain to someone how to install the 12bit/10bit raw builds on their camera and they were terrified of not using a main build.

Since the 12bit raw video has been the experimental build since March (it's June now) and it has been severely tested in the forums, it would make sense to me to include this as a main build for the less technical and scared people.

These guys hired someone that shoots with ML... I'd vote for them anyday!

No but seriously you made these people look like gods. Good job! nice shots.

My bug: MLV rec module isn't even loading now. https://ibb.co/5FRytgG

Nice shots! I love how the contrast of the clouds and the grass look!

I didn't know that the 100D could even look like this!
#315
You got a MEAN dead pixel that was kind of distracting at the bottom left of the image, but man that was amazing! Nice shots and nice subjects!

I like your use of lens choices! especially for the bathtub shots!

Did you use Davinci Resolve? After Effects?

Me again

When I try to change the setting in ML in Movie – Raw video this text is coming up: "640 (any number) is not possible in current video mode (max 0)". Can I change the video mode so it can take more that zero?

Anders

Are you using a fast enough CF card? It sounds like your CF card is too slow if you can't record 640. You should do a card benchmark (load the benchmark module https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19457.msg184186#msg184186 ) and let everyone know what card speed you are getting. You may need another CF card.

Hi I would have similiar question. What is the cheapest EOS camera that very well works with ML and is worth experimenting with?

Regards,
Jakub

5D mark II hands down. Just get you a 128 GB Komputerbay 1066x CF card (or 2 64GB's) and you're set for life!

I mean just look at these prices!

That guy is really lyrical!

Those shots were pretty good. Were you on a stabilizer? Handheld? Gimbal?

Did you use Adobe After Effects or Resolve to edit the shots?
#319
Looks better than any RED camera I've used
#320
Great video! My favorite shot was the bartender pouring the drink!

I want to question your workflow a little more. I love Adobe After Effects and Premiere to edit so I am scared of using Resolve to edit. Is it significantly time-saving to use Resolve?

The file I get (the dng folder) says it's at 30fps (i import via Aftereffects)

If you've imported the dng's into After Effects, then you must interpret the footage manually as 25 FPS. Do this by right clicking on the file in After Effects. See the screenshots below.

You can also use the smart import script to batch import and render files, which will save you time

In the shot I can tell that the camera man is not using a canon.   :D
#323
Every single shot is beautiful!!!!! Especially the beach shots.

It's sad that the actual real music video was not shot on the 5d Mk3.  :(
#324
Shooting arrows on horses? These people are REAL Dothrkaki  :D
#325
Beautiful shots! Especially getting the Bald Eagle!

Did you use FPS override for the timelapse? OR the intervalvometer?

Were these shots shot in RAW? If so can you describe your post process?
