1. I only have a 5D2 (which I love), so I can't help much as far as experience. But Danne's build is the one that I think most people use on this site. But 1080p at 10bit RAW should be more than capable of hitting high frame rates with the overclocking the sd cards can do. You can probably even do it on CF cards.

Hunh. That's interesting. I used to avoid that camera just because of the aliasing but this is super awesome footage. Did you shoot raw?

impressive. I love when ML videos show people in them. Nice job on the grade and skin tones too

Raw Video / Re: Recording Raw on a DJI Gimbal

It works on my 5D2 on a Zhiyun Crane 2 Gimbal. So it does work on a gimbal. More details from you would be helpful

The 5D2 is a very capable camera. I use it still. I've actually compared 5D2 ml raw video to the Clog3 in the R6 and there is practically no difference in quality to me at 1080p. You MAY get some moire/aliasing on a shirt or something on the 5D2 because the anti-aliasing isn't as good but it's an amazing camera. (You can get higher resolutions if you use a crop though... or I guess you can upscale to 4k using topaz.)

However, the 5d3 is the king around here. The 4K builds are incredible and continuous and it would probably be the main reason to upgrade if you want to match the 4k video of the R62. There is also no aliasing.

This is the biggest thing I've seen in a while. Nice!

Woah the day time shots in the new one are so sharp. Are those goats painted red? Or is there an actual red goat species that is native there?

Don't know how much of help I will be as I don't have an R5, but on my R6 I've gone more than a month without using the camera and haven't noticed any difference in battery life (I'm sure there is, but practically it didn't matter for me).

Beautiful.

The drone shots look sharper and have more contrast than the 5D shots. The darks are closer to black on the drone shots. Which lens are you using? Did you stop it all the way down to f/8 to get the max sharpness?

Sensational. Videos like these make me so happy

Probably not to be honest. That's just my opinion though.

But if the shutter has been replaced then it may live longer. Depends on if you're spending a lot of money on it or not. You can buy a 5D mark 2 for under $290 on ebay.

You got the meteor shower at it's peak! Nice! I'm actually jealous that I missed this season

I don't see "tons of compression" or whatever that guy was talking about. Maybe there is some that's noticeable when there is fog but it doesn't look that bad to me. Maybe that guy had the YT video in 480p or something.

I have seen sharper footage though from that lens. It looks like in the first video the buildings behind the band are more in focus than the band itself. Maybe what that guy was referring to was the band being out of focus. And the second video maybe there is some slight noise in the shadows?

I don't know, but it's not bad footage. Keep making content!

You can clearly see the difference between different bit depths in this thread, it's already been tested many times before...

Personally I don't know about color shifts other than green shadows in this example, but this is probably because of the difference in black level, you can set it a little bit different and get red or magenta tint in the shadows

Read the rest of that post. That Reddeercity made the same point that I'm making now.

The difference is only in the color, and it can be drastic for grading in some situations.

False. These cameras don't even have enough dynamic range to push anything past 10bit.

I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to these cameras and the "crop mood" build, but to me it looks like all of the presets are in 14bit? Would it be easier on the card to run 10bit? There is practically no difference in the image quality between 14bit and 10bit.

This was the coolest thing I've seen in a while! Nice

Correction: 6D has lossless compression and SD overclocking, it can record 1824x1026 at 30 FPS in 14-bit lossless easily (240 MHz OC). .

Forgot about that and SD overclocking. Welp, there you have it

You guys would probably get some faster support if you asked these questions in Discord. The Astro module is really old so I'm not sure if the people who created that module are even active today, but they may be able to point you in the right direction. https://discord.gg/H7h6rfq

The 6D is a pretty limited camera as far as Raw recording because of the SD card. I doubt you'll find many resources from users on it. Documentaries require a lot of recording time and unfortunately, the 6D does not have the hardware for long-duration recording.

Using a full frame 1x crop resolution at 16:9 (1824x1026) will get you 19 seconds of RAW recording. But you can almost continuously at 2.35:1 and upscale the footage like this guy did (which turned out quite well in my opinion).

If you need help setting it up, I would recommend ZEEK's tutorial on the 5D mark 2. I know it isn't the same camera, but it should give you a headstart. At 5:05 in that video I would change your Aspect Ratio to 2.35:1 or something less taxing and turn your bit-depth to 10bit.

You can use RAW calculator to remove the amount of experimenting that you'll have to do in knowing your record time.

If you are open to upscaling, Topaz Video AI can save you in resolution. The 6D can record 16:9 with 1536x864 continuously in 10bit, which could be upscaled to 1080p easily, all while keeping the amazing flexibility of working with a RAW file.

Hope this helped at all.

Love the aspect ratio.

You mean in this specific scenario? Or always? :o

Always. You get the exact same dynamic range. 10bit vs 12bit vs 14bit is all the same range on these sensors.
#24
Nice! That was some cool shots. You don't need to shoot in 14bit though. 10bit gives the exact same dynamic range and quality with smaller files
#25
That's really cool. Haven't seen anything this cool in a while tbh. I can't imagine all of the practical uses that can come from it.
