What I should be doing is putting the camera into Tv mode and choosing 1/50.

Thats what I have done, however, its showing a rolling shutter of 75 - I thought one was after 180 to provide the correct looking footage.
I have even played with the FPS Timer A and B to try and get it right.
A - 850 (FT+128)
B - 1411 (+31)

Hi,

I have read, I have played.
I can get the FPS to be 24, but it shows rolling shutter to be 77.

Might someone, please, be able to educate me as to how one achieves both?

Considering that the recordings where all done "out of the box", the first two don't have that creamy look the others do.
Which is what I used to get with my Nikon using their 50mm 1.8.

I appreciate that I am comparing apples to gates, I mean windows - however, I thought that the creamy look was down to the lens rather than the camera.

I guess I should at least find a STM and take some shots with it to see if the 100d can do it.
I still cannot believe that such a small camera setup produces such amazing images.

Yeah, I am going to try and record some of me with the 100D.
It seems, after reading about the difference between the two lens the bokeh is better on the STM lens.

I've just gone and shot a load of still with the. 100D and Black II and I can see the difference just with that.

I am just using out of the box settings.
I have attached a number of shots from both cameras.
They are unprocessed, and just a screen grab from inside Resolve.

The first two are from the 100D, the others from the 700D

OPPS: Just remembered that the 700D had a circular ND Filter on it, cost less than £20

Hi,

I have spent ages trying to fully understand the options for getting the highest quality, and have these settings so far, that seem to give continuous recording.

The first thing is that the Sandisk Extreme card I have gives around 49mb write speed when I test it with Blackmagic Speed Disk, however, in the camera is only giving around 23mb.

I am running the 4k experimental build, with the following modules loaded:
crop_rec
mlv_lite
mlv_snd
raw_twk

As for settings, as follows:
FPS Overide 23.976, optimised for exact FPS
movie crop mode OFF
crop mode OFF
Raw Video 1568x882 @11/14bit Lossless

If I want to zoom in, I turn on the Movie Crop Mode and also the Crop Mode.
I have the display set to the 3 info setting, as I use manual focus with green lines to show where the focus is.

There are some problems, when stopping recording sometimes the camera seems to hang and I have to turn off and on again.
The resolution was found by trial and error, as to which gave the highest value. I also tested whether recording the sound or not, allowed a higher capture res, but it didn't.

I then process the files with Switch, using the default settings and then use Resolve to edit/ colour / grade.

Is it possible to get some advice/pointers on my setup please, and whether anything I am doing is wrong.

EDIT:
Just installed the firmware linked a few pages back.
Now I can record at 1712x964 @23.976

The problem is that I have to be on the first of the info screens, to get a green record.
If I go to the one I want to use, the 3rd as it shows focus lines, the speed drops and I am unable to record.

Hi,

With the 700D and STM lens I managed to get the creamy film look I am after.
Unfortunately, I had to get rid of that set up, and switch to a 100D and Black Lens

The image I am getting with the 100D is no where near as "good" as the 700D.
What I am not sure is whether its the lens or the camera.
I am hoping that it is the lens, as at least I might be able to get another STM one.

Am quite confused about which of the many options I should be using to record RAW.
and that was before I found this thread!

Should I be using this build, the nightly build, or the 4k build I am currently using.
I also have the copy_rec and mlv_lite modules installed.

So far I am getting 10b L/L @ 1736x1160

Also using Switch to convert to ProRes.

Hi,
New user here, would like to check some things please.

am looking to get the "best" RAW that is going to work without crashing out.
I must admit I am confused by some of these things.

I am running the experimental 4k build, with crop_rec and MLV_lite modules installed
I have CBR at 1.
I have resolution at 1736x1160 and ratio 1:1
And I am using Switch to convert the file into a folder of .dngs

What I am confused about is how to get the "right" resolution so I can use Resolve to edit in 1920x1080
Also, how does one set it to 24fps?

Sure, I have a shed load more questions, how can one not with all these options to play with. however, I wanna start recoding asap and figure the rest out as I go.

Hi,
I have a chance to return a Nikon (D3200) I'm not very happy with its video quality, and swap for a 700D and 50mm 1/8 lens.
As I have been a Nikon owner since forever, I have no idea how good this combo is.

I am looking to do limited video work, want depth of field and that creamy look.
Any video will be used along with footage shot with a Blackmagic Cinema Camera, everything run through Resolve to edit/colour/grade.
