91 and 92 seem to be the only other values where live view isnt broken, if that is any indicator. Im uploading all the dngs so you can have a look. Also, I ONLY changed the cmos 0 value, and left the 800c alone, thats what I was supposed to be doing and not changing them both, correct?

Is there any indication when or if I hit the nail on the head? Should the DNGs with the right combination open just like normal in Lightroom, or another processing app? Its just 64 Dngs, should be managable :)

live view behaves very weirdly when I do this. It gets all pink and in video mode flickery. Also, in this build (from the iso_research branch that dfort posted earlier in this thread) lossless dng is not available. thats why there's only normal silent DNGs.

All I did was set CMOS

As always, I hope I did this the right way!
I saved the log file just like in the normal movie modes for every ISO in the 3 modes you suggested. However, all in h.264, a raw module was never loaded. I hope this was right.

Updated the Vram post with the 3xZoom modes.

Just to get this right the first time: 1:1 crop would be anything with the crop_rec activated right? or the 3xZoom from the menu as well?
Then I save a Log-registers file for every ISO in every one of those 3 modes, correct?

Right on the money as always. I thought the zoom selected from the canon menu was nothign "special" on the 70D (I knew it was on the 600D)
Here's the 3x Zoom for 70D

I did the test linked in the post (posted the files in the image dumping thread you linked). There's mostly none RAW video modes though. For further testing, should I repeat the ATG_GUI test (find register 800c and change it to 2) and then just make screenshots of different modes (and perhaps also ISOs as you suggested?)

So... I did the Test for the 70D, although I dont have an HDMI Monitor and no AV cable either... I plugged in the USB cable, in the hope that it would still make a difference if there's something connected to that outlet but it doesnt seem like it. Anyway, I still uploaded the files because maybe NTSC/PAL is still valuable.

@dfort and a1ex

So is the build safe to test? Then I will do so as soon as I have time!

Hey! I was able to record "regular" h.264 and the live view changed accordingly when I switched to the crop_rec mode, it looked exactly like the file I uploaded.

Is there a chance I somwhow messed up the atdg_gui test in the first place or do the values seem ok?

No luck here either... I was able to record a h.264 file but from the looks of it its not what we are trying to achieve ;).

Out of luck for the day as it seems... none of the 3 tests shows any sign of improvment as far as I can tell (which hopefully doesnt mean much since I know 0 about how all of this works ;) )

Moreover, they dont seem any different from each other, all 3 tests, or rather all 5 tests look pretty much the same.

That's great news! Here's the repeated DNG test by the way. Same exposure settings shooting the same "target" for March1oth and 13th builds.

Right... Just for future dummy proofing this test: you can select histogram RAW based without having loaded the mlv_rec or other raw modules.

What follows: Histogram is visible, Dumbest Assumable User (in this case me) thinks - hey! histogram raw based selected, everything fine, lets do the test!

Here's the same test with raw stuff enabled:
https://we.tl/2q0izHvPBv

0=photo mode normal startup
1=photo mode live view
2=720p selected at startup
3=1080 selected at startup
4= digital zoom enabled at startup via canon menu
#67
Ok! Will do! Here are the screenshots from the alloc-raw-lv-buffer test in the meantime!
https://we.tl/tGatqZnFOh

I did:
photo mode, right after startup
720 mode, right after startup
1080 mode, right after startup
Zoom mode (with digital zoom in the menu selected), right after startup
Zoom mode  - the "normal" way by pressing the magnyfing button, but that's obviously not how the cam starts up

Here's the DNG set for March 13th build.

As for the memory test, am I correct in assuming that I need to run the allocate-raw-lv-buffer build from your download page? If that's all there is to it (plus the instructions on the 10/12 bit thread) I'll do this later in the evening (got some stuff to do now..)
#69
Yes, you were both right. Build info in the help menu said it's esas build from January (although I'm not exactly sure how that happenend because I definitely updated the version, why else would the raw modules be "broken"). Anyway. Reinstalled the March 10 version (the right one this time - 100% sure, looked it up in help pre + post test). So now here's the Dng Set for this test, but they're not really looking any different and I still cant open them in Lightroom. On the plus side, as you predicted, I was able to save a compressed FRSP this time.

Oh, and this was for the march 10th build by the way. If this is any help at all (in other words, if I'm not one of the inviduals too stupid to test because I dont get all the settings right - see previous post  :D  ) I'll test the January build tomorrow, it's late where I'm at.
#71
Alright! Sorry, I thought you guys were already talking full-on video mode. Let's see if I can be a little more helpful this time around (Although, looking at the Dngs - all broken - I'm sure I probably f***** up something...) . Here are the 720/1080/5xZoom/FRSP Dngs, normal and lossless. Wasn't able to save a compressed FRSP, the error message is attached instead.

Hey you wizards! Happy to serve with my limited knowledge and a 70D at hand. With the latest crop_rec_4k.2018Mar10.70D112.zip build which I downloaded from @dfort 's bitbucket page, I get an Error message when I try to load either one of the Raw modules. Camera in Manual Photo Mode, iso 1250, shutter 1/50, Picture saving style Raw only (i.e. NOT raw +jpeg), Lens was a Sigma art 18-35,if that makes any difference.
Here's the screenshot

Just tested the January 11th build from esas. Unfortunately, I have to report that the files still come out like this:

 This was 12 bit lossless, global draw off/ highest resolution possible. 14bit looks the same. Does your 14 bit lossless come out differently @esas? The right blacklevelfor MLV files in MLV Producer is 127 by the way. Changing that is no problem with the new MLV Producer version, it works with the lossless files.

Fazit: Everything "works" but those pink "stripes" (more like bars really) arent exactly pretty ;). Is there anything else to test?

Hey! If you mean in-camera playback when you say "I need to see the raw files on the screen" then yes, you should upgrade to the latest ML version because this works just fine! (and I think that raw_twk. is needed for that so that works too).

@nikfreak and the other developers with more insight into the latest advancements - a few posts back there were hints that lossless compression is in the making for this cam, just out of interest, what's the current state of these developements? Also, has the fps pull request ever received any attention? Just trying to keep up with what's going on at the moment!

Cheers, Dave

@ xaled

IDA_ML is right in saying that the 7D is perhaps the best option in terms of price/versatility, the fast cf write speed is really what sets this cam apart.

However, (at least without sound, not sure about sound recording) 1280 x 544 @ 2.35:1 is possible on a 600D, continous recording in 10bit. I shot this music video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHs1wI6hG3c completely on a 600D, at the resolution and ratio mentioned above.

Your problem is the card. The Sandisk Ultra does 80Mbit/s READ speed, but not WRITE. Both of my golden Sandisk Extreme can do 1280x544 continous. This, however, is the absolut max on a 600D at the moment.

Hope that helps,
Dave
