That's how I like my vacations -- in slow motion!
(Tell that to my wife.)

So, which 24-70mm lens did you use? Some of them (including the Canon f/2.8 ) don't have image stabilization and your footage looks very smooth.

Haha!

The version 1. F2.8 L no image stabilisation. Camera strap and warp stabiliser is what I used lol.

Thank you! Very kind!

Hi guys,

Final part of our Interrail trip across Europe.

I used Lightroom to colour the clips as I come from a photography background so felt more natural for me.

Feedback would be great!

@Rob Curd

Thank you!

Yes I did grade completely in MLV App.

I like saying I'm local to Brighton, however I live kind of far (Haywards Heath), but I go there on weekdays so I'm quite Brightony. Used to be more local, Lewes, but that's just expensive.

@Ilia

Wow, how easy / quick did you find it? I'm using lightroom to colour at the moment.

Oh cool, I do some editing for a guy in Haywards Heath! I'm near Tunbridge Wells / Maidstone.

Beautiful colours!

Did you grade everything in mlv app?

Also are you local to Brighton?

Took my time to colour grade this one, hope you like it all shot with 5d Mark iii https://youtu.be/g_BzaZL94-g

Hi Allemyr,

Thank you for taking the time to watch!

The grade you prefer is the 80d  :'( haha. I do agree it looked better! It was the way I processed the raw. I have a new workflow now and more colour knowledge, I am hoping the next video I release will look much better.

The two other images you referenced are both raw :).

Do you have a link to your work I'd love to see!

Thanks for the feedback:)

Hi explorer,

Thank you for your comment.

The clips were exported with an slog 3 gamma curve using mlv app. I then used a lut I have. In heindsight it looks a little muted.
Footage was shot in 14bit lossless raw and once on YouTube the mp4 will be 8 bit I think because of the conversion.
No 4k just 1080p, it was the 4k module of ml I was using.
No stabilised sensor I'm afraid, far as I know it's only the mirrorless like GH5 and Sony's that have that.

Feel free to ask any questions, it can be a minefield at first!

Thanks for all your help guys!

I think I need to step outside of my comfort zone and jump into after effects or DaVinci. I will run some tests using all the methods including mlv app. I did try DaVinci before but as you mentioned it is gpu hungry which I lack on my MacBook.

Will post the next video and get your opinion again :).

Thanks again!

Share Your Videos / Lightroom Grading, opinion please!

Hi guys,

Previously I have been grading my clips by using the mlv app, exporting to prores with a flat profile and using a lut and tweaking in premiere pro. For this one I went back to an old (and long) workflow grading my dng files in Lightroom. It is way longer but I feel I have way more control. I understand that resolve would be quicker but I just don't know my way around it.

I wanted to know if the extra effort was worth it. Could you give me your opinion on the grade? https://youtu.be/eY80kpHFOag

Also anyone else using Lightroom? If so quickest workflow?

Thanks
Rob

Great Job footage looks amazing, you did a great job color grading.  How much in percent was ML Raw?

Thank you! I would say 25% is raw tbh. I used the 80d mainly because it was attached to the glidecam and autofocus is perfect for that!

Some shots from a trip back in April to Zurich, Switzerland. It is a beautiful place and cant recommend it highly enough!

I recommend viewing a Zurich travel guide and researching the best sites. We viewed the Grossmunster and Fraumunster churches and sat by Lake Zurich. I wish we had time to visit Uetliberg however!

I shot the entire video with the 5D Mark III. I used the new 4k crop rec module and shot everything in 60fps 14 bit lossless raw. The lens was mainly the Canon 24-70 f2.8L version and some on the Samyang 14mm T3.2.

Would love your feedback!

Thank you! will give that a shot! :)

Hi,

I have been messing around with raw for around a year now and evolving my knowledge. One area I still lack in is colour grading. Previously I had shot raw or h264 not both. I shot a small personal project https://youtu.be/uVGAPL-hBcQ and really struggled to mix the two. The raw seemed muted. I did try to play around with lumetri but in my opinion without success.

My workflow used to be export all frames to dng then grade the first frame and apply to all in Lightroom. I am from a photography background so felt much more in control but the final output was not great.

Since then my process has been convert to pro res with a slog 3 picture profile, not sure why slog 3 but just seemed to work very well with the eoshd 3.5k raw lut. I would then tweak shadows etc from there.

Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated. Also a quicker workflow! I use footage for Mac which only converts one video at a time :(.

Thanks
Rob

Beautiful!

For the timelapses, I would recommend a somewaht faster fps.  A nice compromise between fast moving objects (trafic, water, etc.) and slow moving ones (clouds) in the shot would be 2-4 fps.  In this way, the timelapse would not be so fast and chaotic.

Thank you for the feedback :).

I shot the first two at around 1 frame every three seconds and the final day to night at 1 frame every 30. I agree they feel slightly rushed. Song choice was maybe a bit too quick for timelapses.

Shot in beautiful Brighton in South East England. I had a Canon 1DX Mark II for the weekend along with a DJI Ronin S. The clips were shot with the 24-70mm f2.8 L version. Timelapses were shot on the Canon 5D Mark III using Magic Lantern. I used 120fps for almost all the shots and played with time remapping in post. Music and sound effects from epidemic sound.

Would love some constructive criticism!

A video from a recent trip to Paris. A quick 24 hour stop over before heading to the next location.

I shot all the video using a Canon 5D Mark III in 60 fps. I used the Footage app for Mac and applied a S-Log3 preset. Exported to Prores 444 and edited in Premiere Pro.

Shot on Canon 5D Mark III & Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L

what build did you use? I can't see that resolution in the latest ones.

Hi,

I dialed down the resolution using the toggle stick to give me more recording time :).

Very nice movie - horisontal lines were perfect, and colours are excellent. Good work. Why invest in a 1DC - it may be faster for sports and action, but video, ML etc. really call for a 5D3. As Ken Rockwell still says today: The best all-round camera in the world...

Thank you so much! I guess the 1DC is attractive for the fact it can shoot reliable 4K with live view. I struggle with focusing on the higher ML resolutions and getting anything over 3.5K for a usable length of time.

That being said going back to 8 bit colour is not attractive!
