Just got a new, errr, old smc takumar 55/1.8 from circa 1970, all manual, for free, with a $10 adapter.

So I sneak up on my kids and shot them applying some fake tattoos.

Shot mostly at f/2 or so. Conformed and graded on resolve lite 11 with film convert, edited on FCP X.

Comments are welcomed!

After the rain, the sky seems to be painted in water colors.

Shot RAW on a 60D, with some sigma lenses, and the ML zoom function, which turned a 70-200 into a 600mm lens - so long that you can see the moon moves across the sky.

Conformed and graded with davinci resolve + FilmConvert, Edited with FCP 10.1

Update:
here is a link to the youtube version - which sucks horribly. Clearly, I know youtube has a BIG problem with low light and/or dark and/or grainy videos - but this is too much. just looks at those dark backgrounds:

Gotta love the ML zoom function - it turned my humble 24-70/2.8 into a 24-210 super zoom - with a fixed 2/8 aperture, but with a deep depth of field of 70!

These shots came out really nice - sharp and clean, way more than any H264. The Raw 720p version looks like h264 at 1080 - the Raw 1080 looks far better.

Shot RAW on a 60D, conformed and graded with davinci resolve, edited on FCP 10.1. No Film Convert this time.

Music: "Aquarium" form Saint-Sans "The carnival of the Animals", arranged by myself (!) with Logic X.

Share Your Videos / 60D 4K RAW Test (Sort of)
February 23, 2014, 10:22:32 PM

A series of 4K (well, UHD) RAW test shots I shot on my backyard on my 60D.

Well, of course I'm cheating...

This is basically an upscale test, to prove that a good RAW HD footage, can be upscaled to 4K and still look good.

These were shot at Regular RAW with my 60D - some shots at 1728 pixels wide, and some at full 1920 using ML x3 zoom function.
Conformed and graded on davinci resolve, and then upscaled to UHD (3840x2160) with some tweaking on resolve "Image Scaling" section. otherwise, no effects or sharpening were applied.

Some shots were upscaled really really nice - some were not, but still look, in my opinion, better than any H264 video at 4K.

Exported in ProRes HQ in UHD (Huge Files almost 10GB total for this 1 minute clip). and edited on FCP X.

For your pleasure, you can download the original clip at full UHD glory, and judge for yourself.

One the nicest thing in shooting RAW with Magic Lantern is the 3X zoom function.

Basically, it means your lens gets a 3X extender - with the same speed and the same DOF.

In this video, I used a single 24-70/2.8 sigma lens - which act like a 24-200/2.8! No 70-200 needed!

Magic!

Several days ago my son was sick and stayed at home. While he was watching TV, I snick up on him and took several shot in RAW, while also using 3X crop zoom, and ETTR.

Well, is seems these ML functions work...

Shot entirely on a 60D, at a local tourist spot during sunset.

Shot at 1728 and blowed up to 1920 (no problem - still looks way sharper and nicer than H264).
Conformed and grade on davinci resolve with film convert, edited on FCP X.

I've done this video mainly to test the 60D Raw high iso performance, which is only so-so above 1250 - but hey, it was inside the grottos, which are not exactly very well lit.

Overall, I have to say I really, really like these 60D raw capabilities, which truly give an entirely new dimension for my warm - and a new life for my 60D.

Here's a view from window at sunset, using a tree to create some lovely sun stars and flares:

Conclusion: don't be afraid to shot directly into the sun!

Share Your Videos / 60D Snow video - (mostly RAW)

Here is a video I shot several days ago:

Most of the shots are RAW - but some are h264. Can you which is which?
Some RAW shots are on the 60D max resolution - 1728x736 - and some are at lower resolution, in order to get longer shots. Can you tell which is which?

Conformed to 1080P and graded with daVinci resolve lite and film convert, edited on fcp X 10/1 (my first on this new version).

hope you enjoy! comments and questions are welcome!

First post here - be nice...

Two short macro clips: 60D RAW: sigma 24-70 EG + a 31 mm extension tube + ML Zoom = extreme macro.
workflow: MagicRAW -> Davinci Resolve+Film Convert -> FCP X -> Compressor.

Enjoy!
