I have a 5d3 to play around with for the next couple days.
Can't seem to figure out crop rec, I'm interested in being able to record UHD.
Can somebody please tell me their working settings to get continuous'ish high res 24fps raw video?
Cheers

Screenshot of both videos at 1080p,
Upscaled upload looks way better?

I don't believe this... You've done it again! Can't wait til this becomes available on the 5d mark 4.
Please post a sample with a foreground!!! (Edit: beat me to it!)

Canon 7D

Never heard of steadXP+ before but looks very interesting.
I have used Mercalli how does this compare?
And why does it need hardware exactly?

I recently used dottune on a new lens and was confused why it wasn't working as expected.
The solution was to first manually set an adjustment value within the canon menu (anything from -20 to +20) then go back and run dottune.
I also used a print out of this http://www.testcams.com/DotTune/CrossHatch_Target.png and set the camera at a distance of 50x the focal length in millimeters

Looking to get my first monitor and of course I'd like it to work as best as possible with ML and avoid spending extra for features that won't see any use.

One of the main questions I have is what RAW video recording modes will ML be able to display to the monitor?
I see 4k compatible monitors on the market, is this needed to view the newer 3k, UHD, 4k modes?

Another is overlays like peaking, focus pixles etc
Is it better to have a monitor that does this to take some strain off the camera or what have you discovered works well?

Any info shared to do with monitors will be much appreciated.

I haven't used MLVFS for a while now so a few things might have been upgraded, but I encountered this problem you describe with 23.9fps footage and 25fps seemed to be working well...

Now that you mention it all my footage is 23.976fps. I'll have to try another frame rate and see...

Thanks IDA_ML,
So I followed your instructions and got MLVFS working, but when I open up an existing project in Premiere I can't get smooth playback in the timeline anymore it freezes after only a few seconds of playback. Wasn't like that before.
I cleared Adobe media cache but it didn't help. Is there something I can clear/reset on the MLVFS side of things?

@dmilligan,
I found what I assume is a MLVFS crash dump file (42mb) https://ufile.io/fe8r3
#9
Thanks IDA_ML I'd like to give it a go.
Where can I get the DokanSetup_redist-1.0.5.1000 package from?

Upload a crash dump or at the very least the console output

I thought the issue went away after I uninstalled/reinstalled some Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable things but it still crashes.
Where exactly do I get the crash dump from?

Also it's MLVFS 32-bit I'm using on a 64-bit system, is that what I'm supposed to be using?

Why are you running windows version on a macbook?

Windows is just what I'm comfortable using

Hi,
It seems I've got a stability issue with MLVFS and I'm after some help. I'm using Windows 7 on my Macbook.
I periodically get popup messages saying MLVFS has stopped working and I have no choice but to close off my project and load up MLVFS again.
I've been living with this issue for a while but trying to work with 1TB worth of footage and having MLVFS always stopping has put me to a halt.

Thanks again Walter

That userguide link shows a beeps option as a custom REC/STBY notification. That would be very useful but I don't see it anywhere..

Silly me I forgot the remote had a switch on the rear, flicked it to option 2 and now it works :)

In the past I used my Canon RC-6 to remotely trigger RAW video recording.
For the life of me I cannot remember the menu settings to get this working again.
Anyone know?

Shot some 10bit today with the Dec 12 build on 7d.
All 24fps exact in normal mode and 5x mode with sound.
Found myself having to restart the camera after each recorded clip or the next clip would get that "earthquake shaking"

Regarding the 7D frozen screen issue in the 5x magnification mode, is there anything that could be learned from this build: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5601.msg187903#msg187903
It has a working liveview (canon mode) with global draw off for 10/12 bit in 5x mode.

I bought the VAF Filter for my 7d.
I'm slacking- haven't used it much, but I can pump out some examples for you if you'd like to see it!

Yes please!!

It's cool to read there's others out there who also love the 7D. I agree it's quite the weapon even as it currently stands
For a long time I've been debating to get a VAF filter, if theres a 7D user out there that has one I'd be very interested to see DNG's with and without

Try this:
mlv_dump --black-fix=2048 --dng M14-0947.MLV

Fixed it right up! Thank you very much!

Used a 7D (magiclantern-Nightly.2017Jun17.7D203) to record 100+gb of raw video+audio and out of all the clips one messed up.

DNG sample: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=24362715427679068902

I tried the line below without success, video remained green:

mlv_dump --black-fix=2048 -o output.MLV M14-0947.MLV

If I can salvage this clip that would be great, thanks!

I predict ML starts thinking for itself and hides forever in the cameras very core

Thanks tonij, I followed your step by step instructions and I manage to record in 10 bit successfully on my 7d. However, no matter what I do the liveview always freezes. How did you manage to see what you're recording?

Did you follow my guide exactly? When it does freeze do this:

Go back to Overlay menu, enable Global Draw again, return to Liveview 5x zoom, go back again and disable Global Draw, return to Liveview one last time, hit record and you will again be able to view what you are recording.

Feature Requests / 24-bit audio option for mlv_snd

Is this feasible to implement or not really?

I'm dreaming of a world with preamps and low noise floors
