Ronin + IS lenses is a killer combo.

Thanks and I really appreciate you posting the film to illustrate.  I can see the difference!

I ask because I'm trying to decide between an EF 24mm f/1.4 II L or an EF 24mm f/2.8 IS plus an EF 35mm f/2 IS.

I want a wide angle prime for my Ronin-M, but as that is already a stabiliser, is the IS in the latter two lenses therefore superfluous and I would be better off investing in the L lens?

Any thoughts/experience welcome and thank you in advance.  I already have a set of EF zooms with IS for my handheld shots but don't want to use a zoom on the Ronin to avoid having to rebalance each time the focal length changes.

Fantastic, I loved it!

All very competent shots, well done and thanks for sharing on grading etc. Can I ask what converter you used mlv to dng before importing into Resolve?

Very nice, thanks for sharing. The night time lights flare nicely!  What lens did you use the adapter with?  Any lessons you'd care to share about using the adapter?  Is focus sometimes hard to nail with the adapter?

I always thought the Canon 24-105 was good, because of IS, but I've never used it. Is it that bad?

If we're talking about the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L I can vouch for it as an excellent photo and video lens and on that basis I've got the mkII on pre-order.

Very nice images, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. I think it's great technically, I like the transitions and camera movement; but overall, the film portrays the city to me as hectic, chaotic even?  Maybe that's just me, I live in a rural village of just 50 houses, about as different as you can get from a city the size of Berlin!

@LebedevRI

I'm glad the samples were helpful.

Unfortunately, I can't shoot anything more for a few weeks as I'm away from home for work, but can come back to this mid-November?  I'll then have to ask you to explain more plainly what you want, or go back to A1ex's original request, because I don't know some of your terminology.

Very enjoyable to watch, well done. Were the fast motion sequences timelapse stills or just sped up footage?

Very elegant, thanks for sharing.

@a1ex here's my dual pixel raw focus bracketing shots:

Thanks for the link explaining front/back focus; I don't know if/how to force this in-camera using autofocus, so I did it using manual focus via EOS Utility remote shooting on a Macbook, hopefully finely enough and in a systematic way for you - I'm assuming you can pick up the apertures used etc used on each shot via the exif information?

And i do get tired.

Me too, with the classic camera+monitor+handles all out front shoulder rig. If I could afford a Zacuto Recoil Rig I'd get one, I just can't justify the cost for the amount of handheld shoulder work I do.

Here's my attempt at your requested night scene shots: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q1fpp5bg37mxkob/AADfvKFyGV2p4-Kuw4Z-sHvra?dl=0

Hope they work for you.

@a1ex here's my first batch of test images:

To check white levels: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mv9ukwyueeh5cq7/AAB7hCeEqFzvqNZNAofza8XAa?dl=0

To check crop area: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l4h7xiue8vc2mda/AADQnaxi14kRglNFmKHmba7Va?dl=0

For colour profiling: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bo9gc02eyde7yjm/AADmjsp-v6OKXEJfL8l3HCP3a?dl=0

I'm a real newbie at this, so I hope these files are useful.  Unfortunately, the darktable colour profiling page completely mystified me.

On the dynamic range & SNR curve: could you explain what you mean by "a bracketed set of images....5 x 1EV"; I understand bracketing, but not the 5 x 1EV part.

On the dual pixel refocusing: what do you mean by front focus and back focus?  The only terminology I'm familiar with is back button focussing...

Have a look at Lanparte - good quality, not as expensive as Zacuto.  I have a fair amount of their stuff and am pleased with it all.

You could try with this baseplate/shoulder mount, which will put the camera right over your shoulder:

http://www.fastforwardtime.co.uk/dslr-rigs/camera-tripod-baseplates/lanparte-vms-01-shoulder-pad-and-base-plate-dslr-c300-rig

(UK supplier I can recommend, you can maybe find a supplier in your country?)

then add what you want in the way of rods, handles, follow focus etc.

I haven't got this particular baseplate because a) with the camera that far back, you're possibly going to get cables in your right ear and b) with the 5D4 DPAF, I'm going to be using the camera touchscreen more and so will want the body in front of my eyes.

Let us know how you get on (with pics!).

Interesting to see, thanks for sharing.  Is the finished film published online?

Very good, well done!  I don't know anything about sleepwalking but I liked the interplay of asleep/awake scenes.

Well, my 5D4 has arrived but I won't get time to play with it until this weekend.  I could try to shoot some comparison footage - would you like to see any formats in particular?
