Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't really find relevant information. Have you seen any visual difference between uncompressed raw and lossless raw? The difference in file size is huge, but visually, even after hard grading, I can't see any. Thank you.

I've just tried the MLVApp Alpha and then compared two .dng sequences in Resolve,  one exported from MLVApp, the other one exported with  MLVRaw Viewer 1.4.3.
I can't  see any visual differences not even after en extreme grade was applied. The MLVApp dng sequence doubles the size of the MLVRaw Viewer on my disc drive. I guess it is because MLVApp claims to export uncompressed .dng?

Any thoughts?

Hi everyone,

I'm using MLV Lite with an external monitor (no Force VGA is set, with clear all overlays set when recording)  and when I hit record, it stops pretty often. I get EDMAC timeout error. Does anyone know why?

I use Canon 7D with the last built.

Hi everyone,

In Davinci Resolve, on the camera RAW tab, you can set the BMD color space and gamma. However, the names are generic: Blackmagic Design Color Space and Blackmagic design Film Gamma.

Does anyone know which one the ML's .dng is based on? Because each one of the following cameras uses a slightly different BMD color spaces and gammas (correct me if I'm  wrong):

Black Magic Pocket
Black magic 2.5K
BMCC 4K
URSA Mini 4.6k

I've read somewhere people talking about Mlv Lite with sound.  Does Mlv Lite work with sound, because I don't get any wav files?

Hi everyone.

I've just tested the MLV Lite and there's no tearing on my 7D when it's connected to an external monitor. I always get tearing (when max. res. is set with AR to 16:9 and 23.976fps) unless I set the "Force HDMI-VGA option", I change the resolution or change the Aspect Ratio to 2.35, 2.20 (actually every AR that reduces the max. resolution).

That sound like good news. However I never tested the MLV Lite on the field and don't know what to expect.
I've read the forum, but there's only advanced technical information.

Any thoughts?

I got some issues:
Sometimes I get "EDMC timeout error" when hit Record and the camera is connceted to the external monitor. The only solution is to restart the camera.
No sound with MLV Lite

I have a Canon 7D 203. Latest Build: 2017-12-07 with a Monitor Lilliput.

I've just formated my CF card (quick format on win, FAT32) with ML installed on it. I know I shouldn't do that.
Anyway, I want to reinstall it (the last nighbuilt) and I wonder what's the correct workflow?

Hi everybody.

I´ve been using ML for almost two years without any issues.
However, pretty frequently, by switching the CF cards, the camera just refuses to power on. No error, no CF light, nothing.
The only solution is to take the battery out, wait some seconds and then insert the battery back. It happens on my two Canon 7d with the same firmware.

Has anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone.

For some reason, changing the black level with mlv_dump doesn´t work anymore. It did work before.



I always used this command as in the thread http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=11664.0:
mlv_dump --black-fix=2048 -o out.mlv in.mlv

It creates a new mlv, but with no changes at all. It drives me crazy....

If I export to .dng (Raw2cdng) and I use the exiftool command -BlackLevel=2048 input.dng , I get the ¨0 images updated¨ message. Someone knows why?

Hi everyone.

I wanted to share my tests about trying to remove the vertical stripes from my .mlv footage using different applications. I'm new to ML so please feel free to share your thoughts (maybe something wrong was done on my tests).

Canon 7D ML Nightly.2015Aug19.7D203, .mlv files. The blueish footage was shot with ISO 100. The cat's footage was shot using ISO 200. Both were overexposed in post, so the vertical stripes be more visible.

Here are the results:


1. MLRawViewer 1.4.3 with Stripe Correction On: It successfully removed the vertical stripes. However, there's some magenta in the shadows area (look at the 2nd image of the cat head below) 

2. Raw2cdng.1.6.5 with Vertical Banding ON: Failed to remove vertical stripes

3. raw2cdng.1.7.4 with Vertical Banding ON: Failed to remove vertical stripes

4. Mlv_dump with: Failed to remove vertical stripes

5. MLVMystic 0.5 (beta) with Vertical Stripes Fix 5D MIII: Failed to remove vertical stripes As the name says, perhaps works better only on 5D

Hi guys.

I'm looking for a cheap external monitor for my 7D (203) with ML and to be able to shoot raw. The prices of Lilliput monitors seem to be perfect for my budget.

1. Are there any issues about external monitors to be aware of when shooting raw?
2. Some monitors have 2 hdmi. Has anyone tried using two monitors, one for the camera operator and one for the director? Is it possible?

I couldn't find much information on this forum, seems there have been some problems with external monitors.

Hi everyone.

1. I'm new to magic lantern and after having done some tests, I was thinking about buying a Lilliput external monitor for my Canon 7D (v.203). After doing some research on the forum, I've found out that is not possible to monitor the signal both on the external monitor via HDMI and on the built-in lcd, at the same time, when recording RAW. Is this information correct, with the new ML firmware?

2. What Lilliput model you guys recommend. I've read that sometimes, with other external monitors, there have been some issues about the raw footage, like skipped frames, torn image, etc. Is that information correct?

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked million times before. I can't find updated information. All that I find are threads from 2012, 2013.
