Does anyone else have magenta blocks tearing randomly on the footage on 5D2? Trying to figure out why that is happening.
I only have that before the clip ends more or less at the moment when I go to the menu to stop the recording.

Anyone know where to get the 5d2 raw_rec, the link seems to be down for the one posted by 'coutts'?

Cheers!

Feature Requests / Cinema-DNG for RAW2DNG
May 15, 2013, 10:12:28 AM
Hello,

my feature request would be that raw2dng would convert to cinema-dng instead of photo-dng.
Almost all professional software supports cinema-dng while the only video software that I know off that support photo-dng would be After effects. This would safe us a render-time-consuming workflow step. Footage could be imported straight to editing or grading suits.

White papers of cinema-dng can be found here http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/cinemadng/cinemadng_p1_spec_091009.pdf

Thank you so much for everything! You guys rock!

someone already posed some tests, where he upscaled raw 720p to 1080 and compared it with h264 1080. Conclusion, the raw 720 is still sharper than 1080 h264 :-)

Yes, but the aspect ratio is not really 2.39:1,  I also think most people want 16:9, so at the moment people would need to choose 1280x720, but if  1880x720 works witout problems, then, I am sure 1600x900 should be doable too. This would be a fair increase from 720 and still be 16:9.

yep.
All though I have no clue how to calculate bit rates, I want to find out what the highest resolutions in 16:9 / 1.85:1 / 2.39:1 can be on the 5dmk2 with try and error.

Hey folks,

I thought to open a specific topic for all discussions related to raw video on the 5dmk2.

Obsolete builds removed.  Please use official nightly builds //Audionut

Here is an easy guide on how to shoot raw with the 5dmk2 by forum member "CrewOfOne"  http://crewofone.com/2013/how-to-shoot-raw-video-on-your-canon-5d2-5d3-or-6d

Here are some of my resolution tests:

SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro 600x
Magic lantern Build 16Mai 17:14

1440x840@25 =  until 4GB limit                  50,7MB/sec
1644x900@25 = 1683 frames                     56,3MB /sec
1738x840@25 = 423 frames                        57.1MB/sec
1880x720@25 = 1531 frames (regression)   57,3MB/sec
1880x768@25 = 867 frames                        58,4MB/ sec
1880x840@25 = 213 frames                    ca 58,6MB/sec

Thanks
Oli

would be cool if 5dmk2 could support exfat or ext3/4 or similar to overcome the 4gb limit of fat32. As an alternative, maybe ML could do a new .raw file when the size limit is reached, unless it would cause dropped frames.

I can get up to 1880x720 no problem on Mark II with KomputerBay 1000x CF. Any higher than that and I start to drop frames.

well I can record 1880x720 on my mk2 with 600x cards without problems, so this indicates that the bottle-neck is not the card. :-/

Thank you kslau8,

how did you managed to get rid of the crop factor of the 720p footage? Did you just changed the distance to the subject to compensate the difference or is there a way in the menu to change the crop?

thanks

With the risk that this has already been discussed; is there a way to shoot 1280x720 without the crop factor (from the 1920x1080 resolution) on 5dmk2?
I would also be very interested what gives me more sharpness, 1920x1080 h264 or 1280x720 raw.

thanks

I did my first tests with the http://bit.ly/10TBM7a 5dmk2 double buffer from coutts version. I have 90mbit/sec sandisc cards (about 600x). Only with 1880x720/25fps and global draw off can I record without dropped frames. Is the limitation the CF card or the 5dmk2 hardware (buffer?).

Great work folks!

I agree with cinemaDNG, if it helps, I've found some CinemaDNG white-papers http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/cinemadng/cinemadng_p1_spec_091009.pdf

Hey folks,

I do not have after fx and I failed to open the DNGs with Davinci resolve software, FCX and premiere pro, any other software that could work?

thanks for help

Feature Requests / mapping hot pixels out
August 11, 2012, 04:55:20 AM
Hi there,
first of great work ML team, many thanks!

Here is my feature request;
A way to map hot/stuck/dead pixels out. Almost every canon camera that I come across has that problem, and the older the camera the more hot pixels will show. In higher iso they will become really ugely and they need to be taken out in post-production.

If ML could map them out already before recording, that would make this camera so much more hassle free!
