Running around with only a few lenses - crop mode does the rest. And when it's time to take out the long lens - WOW! What a tool to have beside the other very important improvements, ML makes to a camera, that is in itself top-o'-the-class. I would SO like for the Canon engineers to appreciate, that we're not cannibalizing the 1-series, but are taking the excellent 5DIII to perform and show all the potential, Canon built into it. If I knew of ML-users in central Jutland in Denmark (Aarhus-area) we'd be drinking champagne and toasting A1ex - again!

When and where can we see the complete movie? What I've seen so far is beautiful.

Totally beautiful. A marvel of a short movie, well planned and wonderfully carried out. And you left out all the clichés - thanks.

Feature Requests / ML Start Menu
September 04, 2016, 08:44:04 PM
Would it be possible to set the default ML start page to MyMenu, when MyMenu has been altered from "factory setting"? The benefits from this should be obvious - and mirrors the Canon Menu system.

Hooray! Chapeau!

Tres bien - l'amour est tellement fragile.

For a few months I haven't produced video with my 5d3. I recently updated to the latest lightly - and movie REC key setting in 'Movie' was gone. Have I missed something? I have been searching holes in the ground for movie rec key. I'm beginning to feel utterly stupid. But where is it???

Thanks, dmilligan, an excellent and very deep explanation, that only widens the respect and admiration we have for you guys - I  K N E W  there had to be some very intriguing stuff going on when a1ex released the April Miracles. At the same time I understand, that once the Canon firmware is respectfully tamed, crop mode will be one of a whole new range of possibilities. Wow.

@GutterPump - I'm happy with the April miracle as well - no doubt about that - but I felt, that the problem implementing the crop mode was more than a little trivial, so... But just like you  I'm sure we'll get a status report as soon as there is something to tell.

I wonder if crop mode for5d3 is progressing. We've been very happy with the April miracle from a1ex, but I'm wondering if we could persuade him to add the crop wonder to a more recent build of ML,since ML has been improved on a great many areas since April. I feel, that the crop mode for 5d3 was added at a price - some existing functionality being scuttled in order to make the crop mode work. It might be interesting to know a little more about this. The cropping facility is highly appreciated in our 650's and 700's and would be a marvel for 5d and others as well. Hopefully I'm not "throlling..."

Maybe the story needs a little tightening-op. The shots are good enough. Don't overdo effects - well in a comic it's OK... Boys are silly - thank God. Boys with self-irony are a godsent.

I started creating crazy shows with black and white and diapositives with a Nikkormat FT 50f1.4, I had got as a communion present in 1966. I put my stills in slides, added sound with a tape player - voila. Since then I've been canonized and ML'led into total obedience.

Presenting your first footage on ML's website tells me, that you're no stranger to the thought of buying a Canon, installing ML, attaching a few good lenses and trying your hand with some serious film making. Browse the many ML pages, look out for good, second hand primes... One of the world's best 50mm's is still my own Nikkor-S Auto 50f1.4. Find it on eBay for something like $70, - and get an adapter for Canon EF. Can you afford a well used Canon 5D II? Excellent MII's cost from around $800, and it was the Mark II, that started the whole DSLR/movie business. With full-frame you'll be in good hands.

When you have a good cam/glass, there are lots of websites about film making - nofilmschool comes to mind - to dig out. And the ML site is filled with tips, tricks and procedures for the keen Canon/ML-addicted.

Good luck.

@Walter - there is a wonderful little gif, Lucylantern, I found some time ago while browsing these pages. It's almost Monty Python, and if I were preparing tutorial videos for ML, I'd certainly consider it.

@DeafEyeYedi - then you're in for a treat. The dedicated music is really good. A convincing and well-spun story. If this was a trailer for a long movie I'd definitely want to see it.

Very well done. English subtitles would be very helpful.

Wonderful footage, beautiful sceneries, I love the color work. But the transitions suck. Overly dramatic, almost chocking. You don't want a beautiful beach to explode in your face. Avoid these "little kids playing"-effects. Use discrete blends and fades, and let us dwell a second or two at the beautiful sceneries. Pix with a lot of details take longer to enjoy than simple pix. Many - no, make that ALL - of your shots could easily be 2-4 secs longer; they're never boring and the quality of your shots (and the quality of your country) absolutely wants me to ask: Give me some more.

The crop-version ML we're discussing is a tailored ML/5DIII that A1ex produced back in the start of April. It is being tested in various modes and configurations before going into the nightlies. EOS-M has its own crop mode hack - https://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/features.

@DeafEyeYedi: Excellent, beautiful wedding footage, and the crop is a godsent, especially in low light. Maybe we could hope for a new interim crop-ML/5d.113 based on the most recent nightly - there have been some very important improvements to ML since April 3. Then again - one just has to read the posts here to acknowledge the amount of work, A1ex (a.o.) is putting into the ML. Does that man ever get to sleep?
@markodarko: Yes, with a variety of glass the crop would be a real game-changer. I'm using crop/5d.123 with my nifty-fifty. It's a gem.

Thanks for the kind words - I'm not sure I deserve them. I'm really not that experienced with streaming video, but I'm like a little child when it comes to experimenting. You gave me several interesting inputs, so I'll be back when I think I have a workable plan. There must be more than one way to get a video stream out of the cams - will the resolution be satisfactory? Good luck.

Ce petit flick est coupé avec empatie et une plentitude des emotions. Tres, tres bien. Quelle drama... A wonderful way to use one of the world's finest cameras.

And the English translation catches all these emotions very well. You're spot on.
#46
Very, very beautiful. Looking forward  to the real thing.

Yea, you have me confused quite a bit, because you ask about the HDMI output. And you only get a small picture - letterbox - on an HDMI device.

Both cams are 1080progressive, not interlaced, as far as I can figure out from the manuals. I have never tried to send progressiv to any device demanding interlaced, but I think, you'd normally get problems. But you set one of your cams (which one) up with Avermedia 1080i capture card and it worked. Or did both work? Interesting.

Nahh... you said yourself that even with ML 2.03 the image from your mkII had some flaws - I simply fail to understand why anybody would try that - but then again several people use the old and venerable 2.03 as a sort of reference...

The only thing you can stream live via HDMI is whatever you can display on the rear display screen. And the resolution you get is the same resolution as on the rear LCD. The rear LCD has 920,000 pixels (5dII). That includes the margins that display around the video frame (vertical or horizontal, depending upon the video mode).
#48
Yeah...? Mnjeh? What exactly are you talking about? I own the 700d, but I don't have the HDMI hardware you mention, so I cannot reproduce your setup.
And I'm sure that goes for almost all of us in the ML Universe.

Second: Why on Earth are you using ML 2.03? Use the latest nightly. ALWAYS and EVERY TIME. And when a new update comes around, install that one. ALWAYS. You have a top notch camera. Why feed it with outdated software? 2.03 was a genious's invention, but it has been improved so totally much, that today there is no better software/hardware match.

Whenever there is an update to ML, I copy the SETTINGS folder (including Magic.cfg) from the SD card to the new version of ML. I also share settings between my two 5d's so they have exactly the same functionality - I don't want surprises when working.

Absolutely first class material. The presentation speaks volumes and the thorough planning. As I wrote: More, please.
