Exactly this one: that solution works thru lens adapter we don't need.
This is not mean there is no other solutions.
As you can see, some people claim that USB adaptors works with ML.
I recently ordered this one
As it arrives I will report here, is it works or not.

Are there only two buttons to focus from or can you change the sensibility too? Yes, please tell us how good it is. :)

Just found this here, a battery grip with a remote control. Might be used with the left/right/up/down buttons to control ML focus pull?  :)

I think that solution will only make sense for use non-native lenses on mirrorless body.

What exactly do you mean mothaibaphoto? The idea is to use Canon native lenses because their focus can be operated trough ML with the up/down buttons. The only hardware I found so far are such battery grips:

So theoretically you could plug it in, run ML focus pull and use the remote controller which apparently has l/r/u/d buttons to focus pull even if its on a gimbal! Something like Aputure dec but for Canon cameras and the price of about 80$

Another Idea is to use a USB joystick and a USB to USB remote extender but this is much more difficult I guess.

I have to admit, I didn't test it yet (but I am guessing it could work)

So the ML follow focus option works good, but you obviously can't use it if you have the camera on a shoulder-rig or steadycam. How about a cheap remote control which has the up/down/left/right buttons (I remember you could control focus on my old Powershot Pro1 natively with the included remote control) and you could use follow focus even in action shots.

It is basically a Aputure Dec (http://youtube.com/watch?v=efsoDseaAHk) but with the advantage of no lens controller adapter needed. ;)

Maybe somebody worked this already out? I am going to search, try soon and report.

Interesting, thanks!!

At this point, I would like to ask you something guys:

I read quite often in this forum (also here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16542.msg161275#msg161275) and also have myself the problem, that even with global draw off, the maximum performance I can do with MLV's is 1920x490 on 50p. Everything above is making me ocasional (60p) and extremely often (GD or higher res.) pink frames which are ruining the clips. RAW Module on the other hand works flawlessly even with 67fps!

While I shoot slow motion most of the time and without sound anyway I don't need MLV, but there is a huge advantage - it can be opened by MLVFS for my so beloved super space-saving workflow. It really makes a difference, if you have a 1 Terabyte project going on and don't have to copy your footage to CDNG's before formatting to ProRes for example. I even tried renaming footage.RAW to footage.MLV and opening it with MLVFS hehehe Would it somehow be possible to do so :)?

Interesting that you mention pink frames with Focus peaking, because I have been dealing with Pink Frames now for a long time.

I always use Overlay Focus Peaking + Digic Peaking + (7+) Sharpness.

I will try to deactivate the Overlay Focus Peaking and see if it helps.

I deactivated Global Draw completely during recording (there is a MLV option for that). Cropmarks could be replaced with sticky tape.

If I shoot (5DmkIII / 128 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro) 1920x490 in 50fps without Global Draw I am not getting any pink frames. Anything more stressing than that is leading to corruption. E.g. 60 fps or Global Draw on. Unfortunately I understood it after making a months-long project.. Could have saved myself a lot of headache.

Btw. RAW Video 1.0 (not MLV) works also way better. Global Draw, or 60 fps no problem. But I really like MLVFS as a space saving workflow and unfortunately it can open only MLV's  :-[

Very good :). It's pretty much the same as http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_create_your_own_bokeh/

But obviously it's inside the lens!

I tried it yesterday and the vignette was way too strong. I guess the inside-lens mod doesn't have that.
P.S.: getting a Helios 44-2 next week :) Super cheap but very interesting lens.

Hello everybody.

The ML Focus Peak option is totally fine but my problem with Global Draw is, that it often cause me pink corrupted frames if I, for example, do Slow Motion stuff (probably because it is using the CPU and the camera doesn't have enough resources to write down the Raw data on the card?). I am normally using the DIGIC peaking "slightly sharper" mode and it helps focusing during the recording with global draw off (light on the CPU).

I was experimenting with picture styles for the best liveview preview option and found out, that when you use DIGIC slightly sharper additionally to Picture Style "sharpen +7" it over-sharpens and actually defines the edges like a focus peaker would do. Of course, the effect is not as strong as ML peaker, but if you want/need to turn off Global Draw during recording to ease out the CPU, try it out.

You can't really resize raw data until after you demosaic it (you could downsample it, but that would potentially introduce aliasing, and why do that anyway?) and then it's not raw data anymore. Pixel aspect ratio is just metadata. We are telling the raw processing software that it needs to do the stretch, but we can't actually do the stretch ourselves (we don't demosaic raw data, and I don't plan on adding any such feature).

Only additional thing that would be possible is specifying a custom pixel aspect ratio for anamorphic shooters.

That makes sense, learned something new, thanks :)
#61
What do you guy's think about a resizing option? I already love that MLVFS is automatically stretching the DNG's from 1280-mode in the right aspect ratio and it could be useful in conforming the size already before cutting (e.g. for multicam shots or if you need to downsize the framing to get more fps or so), right?

just a question for understanding, does adtg_gui has something to do with grey hacked preview or is it an another story of getting correct framing from crop mode by letting the camera believe it's in 1080p mode? Cause I'm completely fine with the grey pixely look, only interested in a higher preview framerate.
#63
Hello  :)

Is there a way to increase the frequency of the grey/hacked preview? I would like to shoot in 3x zoom mode in the right framing. The grey/hacked preview is super, but way to slow for even a slight focusing or hand holding the camera. Is there a way to accelerate preview to 24 fps by just changing a value (even if it means a shorter record time), or is it just the max. speed the camera can do?
5DmkIII dec.113

Thanks in advance!  :-*

There is a AE Script to do so. You probably would need to convert your cDNG footage in a editable format like ProRes or dnxhd first anyway: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=12422.msg119832#msg119832
#65
I'm sorry if this has been asked here before, but is there any chance to open .RAW files with it?
It's the only way for me to shoot 60p (MLV gives out pink frames) and MLVFS is essential if you don't want or can't have double gb for projects  ::) :)
#66
Is there any option to use Cinelog with, for example Magic Lantern Processor http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=13512.0 or would one always need to use the AE Plugin/Resolve?
#67
Missed out this thread, going to check it out. Thank's Danne.

EDIT: Uff.. It's gonna take some time  :D

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the scene and after spending some long nights with Magic Lantern I believe magic lantern turned out really good. Everything works good and the raw video possibilities and image quality are amazing. There is one problem though.. The biggest stumbling block is the extended workflow of ML. With other cinema cameras you can shoot LOG ProRes and it's ready to go, you can spend your time being creative in cutting.

So one way (without doubling your footage size) I see to get your footage ready is to
MLV->
MLVS(really "on the fly" MLV to CDNG converter)->
AE+AFX Script+ACR+VisionLOG->
ProRes4444(XQ?)
cons: -you need adobe, -one minute 50fps needs 30minutes on my computer.

And then I also see the option to use MLRAWViewer. This one opens up my MLV, I can look at in realtime even on my 2008 MacBook. I can already set In- and Out-points to save rendering time and space. I can already set the WB, exposure, especially the LOG-C and batch render my files (takes maybe 2-3 minutes). But it has some bugs and disadvantages: -black pixel line on the bottom. -doesnt automatically stretch my slowmotion footage out to the right aspect ratio which brings a extra rendering stage.

These things matter so much, if you have a terabyte of footage to work with. So the second option absolutely seems like the right thing to do or to develop on. My question is, what did I miss, that people don't?

Thank's in advance!

Hello everyone,

one thing came to my attention is, that in all workflow tutorials posted here in forum I never seen anybody touch the Sharpness/Noise reduction controller.

In my ACR for example a little color de-noise is activated by default. So I don't really know what to do- how do these slider behave with quality and grading usability? Should one turn it completely off and do color de-noise at a different stage later or leave it on. If leave it on, why not push it more?  ::) :)

Hello everybody,

I am shooting mostly in 60fps and using ML-RAW (since MLV gives me a lot of pink frames and RAW 1.0 almost none) and was wondering, if the "Key A - Toggle anamorphic aspect to take into account the 1.4x squeeze from shooting 50p/60p" works only for preview or also could be exported directly stretched out like it works already with custom fps. This way one wouldn't need to make a whole new strech-out export in AE and could already cut in the right aspect ratio/without extra rendering.

Second thing: What is this pinkish thing in the middle downer of the green background? I don't think it is over- or underexposed

Third thing: What about this black pixel line on the bottom?

magiclantern-Nightly.2015Nov15.5D3113

tried with both,  MlRawViewer 1.3.3 and 1.4.3

OsX El Capitan

Thanks in advance!

The day with the dog was definitely the longest. My photographer friend always said, if you can get out one of five pictures in portraits, children and animals - one out of ten :P Luckily the dog's master is a friend of mine, who is a dog psychologist and Lana, the dog, was already used to cameras. In total there were seven shooting days and a lot more for post.

Thank you a lot marcoscodas! If you guys have any advice for the future, I would be glad to hear it  :)

Hey Guys,
first of all, thanks to all of you for this great community.

Used:
Sigma 8-16mm F4,5-5,6 DC HSM
Canon EF 28mm F1,8 USM
3x Sachtler Spotlights
DSLR-Rig
Glass viewfinder

Workflow:
Firmware: 1.1.3, OSX 10.9.5
Open MLRAW ->
MLVFS ->
Opening the sequences in AE ->
Using the AE Plugin to stretch back the slomo shots to the right aspect ratio ->
color correction with Adobe Camera Raw ->
exporting as ProRes HQ ->
cutting and -> color grading using free luts and manual changes

The project used 400 gb of data and it needed four days on my old MacBook late 2008 to render out the clips for cutting.

The whole clip has been shot in RAW and to be honest, it was not worth it. In General it is amazing, what you can get out of the picture, but in my opinion, after trying out a blackmagic and using ProRes, I think the usability of the clips overcomes the +10% quality advantage of RAW. I had A LOT of pink frames in all possible configurations. Didn't try out 1.2.3 though, because I wanted to use continuous 60p. I just cut out the corrupted frames and you don't pay attention to it so much. Maybe for the key- or difficult shots I would use RAW again.  :)

Please give feedback   :P

UPDATE****

Bad news  :-[

These are 170 GB of MLV's. I marked MLV's with pink frames red... Its interesting how they are clustered nearby together. Some of the clips even have six pink frames. I tried to figure out if it had something with the aperture or shutter changes but the conclusion is that the bug is very random.

FPS Override was turned of.

My GlobalDraw was turned on everytime I shot, so I will continue testing with GlobalDraw off next time. I think 4000 Frames is not enough for checking :D

I really would like to figure out where the problem comes from :)

btw, should we open another Thread for this problem?

I noticed, that I got extremely many (same kind of) bad frames, when used 67fps -override, so this could be a indication for it.

I shot for about five days over 350GB with different 113Nightlys, with bad frames almost every second/third MLV's. Now I have one last shooting day ahead this weekend and will test it. Thanks in advance, you will hear from me.

And by the way, for changing the fps in slow-motion. One could switch between NTSC 59,940fps and (in my case) continuous PAL 50.000fps very quickly trough MyMenu Settings.

Is the frame rate in your Canon menus set to 720p60? I've noticed if I have the Canon menu on 1080p24 or 1080p30 while setting ML to 48 or 60fps I get some corrupted frames.

It's 720p, 60p. Squashed mode. - And btw, the bad frames are happening in about 20% of my clips. I recorded  about 50 clips of 12 seconds (until the frame skips) and 10 of my MLV clips were compromised.

Here again, two frames in a row (which doesn't look like it's the cards:

Thanks goldenchild9to5, I will downgrade and write about the differences :)
