Forum and Website / Problem with loading the site
« on: April 14, 2014, 11:19:03 AM »
Hi,

In the last couple of days I usually get this when trying to see the forum:
"Error 522 Connection timed out
www.magiclantern.fm
Host
Error

If you're the owner of this website:
Contact your hosting provider letting them know your web server is not completing requests. An Error 522 means that the request was able to connect to your web server, but that the request didn't finish. The most likely cause is that something on your server is hogging resources. Additional troubleshooting information here."

I've never got this before.
Could you do something to fix it?

Edit: I made this post about 7 tries...

Duplicate Questions / Re: raw photos on a 7D
« on: April 07, 2014, 12:22:51 PM »
Hello,

Do someone knows how to make pictures (photos) in Raw mode on a 7D without rebooting on canon firmware ?
With ML, I only get jpeg pictures.

Thanks
Maybe a little bit too soon to use ML for you...

Hardware and Accessories / Re: First "real" tripod
« on: April 02, 2014, 04:06:48 PM »
To choose a tripod you have to know where and how do you want to use it.
Studio work needs different tripod and nature photography or traveling around needs another.
Better if you ask this question on some photography forum which discuss about tripods.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Express card 54 - CF reader
« on: April 01, 2014, 11:51:00 AM »
Guys,

My laptop has SD card slot, but lacks a CF one, which is kind of bummer, since it means I have to insert / carry the USB version around. Did anyone see a high speed Express card 54 - CF reader that would get completely recessed into the expansion slot? So it wouldn't be a problem during laptop transportation.

Thanks & Regards,
Mikhail
I had a Lexar CF reader. It worked well but unfortunately my new laptop has no expresscard slot.

General Chat / Re: Canon EOS 70D (RAW possibility)

The reason is that after the recent SL1 discussion, I don't think it's in ML's best interest to generate too high expectations too early, and reading the above people don't seem to realize how long it might take from "hello world" to "usable".

Also in other forums like CR this quickly ends up in "why don't these ml schmucks deliver a stable version for my xyz already!?", plus I feel a bit sorry for people buying model abc expecting good ol' ML to be available soon.
I bet it will be ready sooner then the ML for my 7D which took 3 years... :)

You're happy that your camera might print "Hello, world!" on screen sooner or later? Well, talking of humble and realistic expectations :-p
Why are you so sarcastic? All the ML port started with a Hello word! screen...  :)

Nanomad: make paypal account and the 70D owners can start to collect the money for a 70D for you.

That's all it took to fix.  I feel stupid now.   Perhaps this can take the lowest priority position for a bugfix.  ;)
Make sure you don't put the date/time/zone on the "My menu" if 'My menu' is your default setting.

Thanks.

5. Headphone monitoring controls= ML:Not yet implemented/ TL: Volume controls available
For headphone monitoring in TL do you have to run the autoexec.bin only or you have to start the master fir too?

Any chance we can read out GPS time? :)

I see a date/time on the first pic and I guess that is from the GPS. Also there is Set time from GPS probably means the same.

I remember that, several months ago, one of the contributors posted some codes for 7D 2.0.5 in 7D RAW thread, it might need a simple recompilation, but the post sank very deep later.
If you want to continue the port: https://bitbucket.org/Pelican/7d.205/commits/all
The compiled autoexec.bin freezes on the camera.

You can use the EDSDK. There is a callback function you can register to receive status changes of the properties and the camera.

Is there an easy way to make minimalist autoexec.bin and put more and more stuff into it if everything is OK?
I mean I've made an autoexec.bin for 7D 2.0.5 but it's freezing so how can I start to check what's wrong with it?

Dynamic range and bit depth are two very different and independent properties.

It does load/run with the 8char name too. interestingly I don't get a choice box if both firs are in root.
I guess the choice box made by the updater itself not by the camera's firmware. The camera always starts the first .fir file and if it not has a check routine for other .fir files then just runs.

The 1.1.4 fw is out so the 1.1.3 fw upgrade not available from Canon now but still downloadable from EOScard's home page.

Finally I've bought a new card reader and test the new .fir installer/uninstaller. It worked like a charm without any problem.
Thanks Alex!

I think you can learn your camera's functions in 10 minutes instead of hacking it for days risking to brick it...
I've never used my cameras' language setting other than English although I'm Hungarian.

Hi everyone

Thank you for your effort and time, and everything ;)

I want to ask, how can I downgrade from 205 to 203? If I copy the 203 fir o the card, and want to go to firmware update, it sais "Memory card containing firmware is required to update", eventhough I have both 203 and 205 on the card. Is it possible? Should I rename the file to 206?

Thanks

Csongor

No. Just put the fir file to the root of your card.
If the camera cannot see it (according to your error message) then you have not copied it to the right place.

I'm using this:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/815153-REG/Transcend_TS_RDF8K_USB_3_0_Multi_Card.html
It can read the Transcend 400x card about 110MB/s which is higher than the specified speed (90 MB/s) for that card.

I have still problems with my site.

General Help Q&A / Re: Battery Question
« on: December 22, 2013, 12:12:36 AM »
Any battery will be fine as long as it powers the camera.
You can't run the firmware update with a third party battery which not fools the camera...
