Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 7D

Downloadable firmware is not needed to start porting. See 70D thread.
Unfortunately the 7D mII (and the original 7D) is a different story...

Could you share a picture which the camera doesn't show?

It would be great to see the potentials in the 7D2... Right now it could be the best camera for RAW video.

The Canon cameras don't care what is in the EXIF of the JPG file. They show even the Nikon pictures... :)
Make sure the filename is in 8.3 format and you put to the /DCIM/xxx folder (where xxx your actual picture folder)

Loaded this onto my cf card (7D). When I turned on the camera, the led flashed a couple of times and nothing.

That is:
- no image appeared on the screen
- ML didn't load
- canon menu operational

The autoexe.bin used was downloaded from the link in Alex's 1st post.

Should I be doing anything else to "run' it?

Use the autoexec from g3gg0's link.

Duplicate Questions / Re: Want ML and got Canon 7D FW2.0.5?
« on: March 28, 2015, 10:08:12 AM »
1. Just download the original Canon 7D update ( 2.0.3 ), from their webpage.
Canon doesn't keep old fw updates on their sites.

4. Your'e done and MagicLantern is installed on your 7D, but! You'll have to "update" it with the ML files every time you want to use it, and if you format your card, it will delete ALL your files, including ML files, so if you format your CF card, you'll have to move the MAGIC.fir and into the CF card again, but it would'nt take a too long time.
If you properly install ML then that's not true what you wrote.
Maybe you shouldn't give advice/help to others until you don't know what you are doing...

I am not responsible for any damage too your camera, i've done this 4 times before with both 5D and 7D, and never failed, so it is easy
4 times! Very cool.  8)

Does anyone know where I can find the 2.0.3 Canon firmware?
On my site. See the link below.

Have you ever tried to set rear sync flash on your camera?
If you set rear sync, the hot shoe fires about 1 ms before the shutter closes, so maybe you can use that signal for your need.

Unless you convince g3gg0 to do it -> there will be no ML for 7D2.
He did the magic breakthrough with the 7D...

Is there a solution for the background on 50D, 5D2 and 7D?

Where can I get that autoexec.bin?

blade's 650D:

Edit: It worked for me yesterday. I moved it to my page.

Two full resolution sample shots from me:
(1/320, f/5.6, ISO 200, 300/2.8L IS, handheld)
(1/800, f/5.6, ISO 100, 300/2.8L IS, handheld)

the only way i can see anything is if i attach a monitor with a HDMI cable to the camera...other than that its black
Then you should bring your camera to a Canon service...

The SD card slot is FAST. Not sure how fast, but its fast.
You can see how fast it is:
It seems that the 7D2 is the first Canon camera with SD slot faster than 45MB/s

SD SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s -
74.9MB/s  :o

So CF + SD will be about 175 - 200MB/s

Really? Since when? The ML fir file did it once...

Almost the same as the 7D2 pixel size.

I would like to know if a1ex and/or g3gg0 are willing/planning  to port ML to these cameras.
Or these are considered as "professional" bodies like 1DX.

General Chat / Re: 5D3 firmware 1.3.3 available from Canon Latin America

"Note: Once the EOS 5D Mark III camera is updated to Version 1.3.3, it cannot be restored to a previous firmware version (Version 1.0.7 through 1.2.3)."

I doubt it. They usually write this but until now it was never true.

g3gg0 did it.
I couldn't even port ML from 2.0.3 to 2.0.5 on 7D... :(
But I can help to the more skilled developers with testing, finding stubs, etc.
Unfortunately none of them interested to do it.

I can't see any advantage to take two dual iso pictures instead of a normal bracket.

My Mark II drains the battery at night even without ML installed...
I've never used the On/Off button since the 20D and not happy if I have to do it from now.
It's not the GPS, maybe it is just need more power than the 7D.
I haven't made a proper test, but almost every time I want to take photos I have to change the battery.

It's easier to take a normal (not dual iso) one with 100 and another one with 800.

I think the camera has so much potential, with ML it could be a jackpot... :)
The CF and SD card interface is already fast enough for RAW video and there is an USB 3.0 to get more speed.
I'm happy to help any developer with testing, dumping, etc.
I have Sandisk 160 MB/s CF and 95 MB/s SD for speed test.

I've got my camera yesterday and I'm eagerly waiting to try it (today is another day with traveling to the rainforest).
It has fw version 1.0.2

Another review:

“The data shown here for the Canon 7D Mark II indicate that the camera is operating at near perfect levels for the sensor with lower apparent read noise and impressively low pattern noise compared to all other current Canon cameras tested and better than that in the 7D Mark I. This means that for high signals, noise is dominated by photon statistics. Sensitivity is improved 14% over the 7D Mark 1, and the sensitivity per square micron is the highest that I have measured for any Canon camera to date.

The approximately 10x lower thermal dark current is a game changing factor, making this camera the top Canon camera for long exposure low light photography that I have tested. The superb autofocus system, comparable to Canon 1D series pro cameras with 65 autofocus points is another game changing innovation, as the camera is at a price point that is affordable to more people.”
