Upon further inspection on their BTS video, it would appear they are using Zeiss Compact Primes, which are EF mount compatible. This film looks amazing.

So they are using PL mount lenses? Seems to be Zeiss Super Primes. That's very nice.

May be slightly off-topic, but does anyone know where one would get an EF-to-PL adapter for use of Zeiss Primes with a 5D? I've seen some adapters online, but none that would support Zeiss Primes.

That was dark. Crazy you pulled it off with that workflow in 48 hours. My respect to you.

No real technical comments but I'm curious why the first bat hit was silent (didn't look like it connected either), especially given the use of sound design slightly later (as with the table).

Thanks, rsmith02! Are you referring to the bat hit where the guy spins to the ground? I made sure there were 4 layered sound effects accompanying that one! I do agree completely that the hit itself could have looked a lot better, but was unfortunately the best take out of the handful of rushed takes we did, lol

This was myself and my team's entry for the 2018 Winnipeg 48 Hour Film Contest.

Shot on 6D MLV Lite, 1824x1026, 12-Bit Lossless. Slow-motion shots using crop_rec 1824x634 3x3 binning.
Most shots done on Zhiyun Crane 2 and standard shoulder rig.

A music video I shot and edited for a local Winnipeg artist. Shot on my Canon 6D on a Zhiyun Crane 2, in 10-bit MLV Lite.

So after further testing I found out that the 50/60 fps 3x3 is what is giving me problems with the Crane controls. When I switch back to 25 fps everything seems to be working fine.

Damn, that's a shame! Even the follow focus wheel stops working when in 3x3 binning mode?

The Zhiyun Crane 2 works fine with my 6D as well. Granted, I cannot access the Magic Lantern menu itself, but all the controls through the Crane 2 like start/stop record, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and even the follow focus wheel work perfectly.

Nice! Also, how much did you have to stretch the footage in post? I've tried increasing height by 1.66 as I usually would, but it stretches too far vertically.

Beautiful videos as always, wangtrirat! May I ask what lens was used for these shots?

Great stuff!

I have a 6D myself but have yet to try the new crop_rec module for it. Are you getting continuous shooting at 1824x628 50/60fps?

Also, I am trying to achieve a similar look for a video I am going to be shooting. How far approximately was the LED panel from the subject?
#61
This is excellent work!

I am trying to achieve a somewhat similar color grade / look with a promo I shot for a client (that Nike commercial aesthetic).
I also had to resort to shooting between 3200 and 6400 ISO due to limited lighting, and had some reservations, but it's definitely reassuring seeing how great this looks!

If I may ask, did you do your sharpening during the de-noising process, or did you save that for the very end?

And when you say you compressed to h264, did you do that using the export settings in Resolve?
#62
This is a VERY newb question, but I figured the ML Forum would be the best place to get this topic clarified for me, as exposing to the right when capturing video confuses me a bit.

Lets say for example that you were recording MLV at 24fps, keeping a 1/50 shutter (fine-tuned to 48) shooting a subject in a pretty low-lit location which does not permit the use of your own lights. (There are only fluorescents high up in the ceiling)
Other than opening up the aperture wide-open, and assuming you wanted to lock that 180 degree shutter, would the only way to successfully expose to the right be by increasing the ISO until the histogram shifts to the right side, no matter what lighting situation you are in?
Is having a 6400 ISO, regardless of how noisy it looks, perfectly acceptable as long as it achieves the purpose of pushing the highlights to the right end of the RAW histogram?
Or would the use of ETTR just simply not apply in this context?

To further confuse me, if you knew that later in post you were going to try to achieve a look that, stylistically, makes use of shadows and soft minimal light on a subject, such as this image for example:

Is ETTR still a practice that you would use in this situation when shooting this?
Basically what I'm trying to figure out is if ETTR should be as much of a concrete step I use with any footage recorded (in the same realm of always white balancing, and color correcting your footage), and then any stylistic choices you want to make with lighting is done with post, by adjusting shadows, mids, highlights, etc.?

Thanks to anyone in advance!

You sort of can if you owned a preamp of some sort like the JuicedLink RiggyAssist series, as they have a headphone jack that you can plug into, and then you can monitor the levels on-screen, or monitor off of the meters on the preamp itself (less accurate).
This has been the setup for my 6D and works fine.

A music video I shot for my two cousins. Shot on my Canon 6D on a Zhiyun Crane v2, in 12-bit MLV at a resolution of 1696x710 upscaled to 1080p.

Can you post a link, please?  I don't see your video.  Thanks.

Yeah, it's weird, I can't see it embedded on my iPhone either.
In case you missed Walter posting it, the link is: http://vimeo.com/239736130

A behind-the-scenes short I put together of a photoshoot for FRIENDLY MANITOBA, a new clothing line by my good friend, Kyle Doucette.
Shot on my 6D in 12-bit MLV, a resolution of 1824x616, 60fps, vertically stretched by 1.67.

Really nice.  How did you get the slowmo shots? what framerate was it recorded with?

I really liked the type of slowmo in the video :)

Thank you, favvomannen for the kind words!  :)

As DeafEyeJedi pointed out, I shot this using the 60fps All-I mode in the Canon menu. I also set FPS Override to 60fps, optimized for Exact FPS.
Then in Resolve, I set Frame Interpolation to Optical Flow, and then dialed the framerate down to 23.976fps.

Some casual, off-the-cuff handheld filming I did with only my 50mm during my friend's wedding rehearsal.
Shot on my 6D in 12-bit MLV, a resolution of 1824x616, 60fps, vertically stretched by 1.67.

Wow, really beautiful shots! Loved the contrast you used. And the pan / zoom motion transitions between shots were slick!

Thank you, theBilalFakhouri! I appreciate it!

No Twixtor involved. I simply set the framerate to "60fps ALL-I" in the Canon menu, then in the Magic Lantern menu I set the FPS Override to 60fps with the priority set to either "Exact FPS" or "Low Light". If I recall correctly, every shot was done with the iris wide open to account for how little light was getting in due to the higher shutter speeds, which were anywhere from 125 to 250.

I then captured at the max recordable resolution for a 2.39 aspect ratio to get as much detail as I could. The highest I could get from my 6D was 1792x480.

In DaVinci Resolve is where I stretched/upscaled the resolution to 1920x1080 and interpolated the framerate back to 23.976. I also set the Retime Process in the Project Settings to "Optical Flow".

And voila!

This is a collection of slow-motion test footage I've compiled over the past few years using Magic Lantern on my 6D. Excuse the low resolution and soft focus at times. I was still quite new to both the camera and the firmware starting out, and was experimenting with different shutter speeds, resolutions and the FPS Override feature.

The resolutions varied from 1600x402, 1792x450, to 1792x480, at a 2.39 aspect ratio, which was then stretched/upscaled to 1920x1080.

If I were to take guess based on the writes speeds and max resolutions of the current cameras supported by ML, it would be 5D3, followed by 5D2, followed by 6D (Or possibly the 7D, as it takes CF cards and acquires faster write speeds)
#74
Great work! I loved the colors and overall filmic look of the entire thing!
Did you use the VisionColor M31 Cinema Lut on this one?

For future reference, for what it's worth, I have on several occasions been able to restore my MLV files from SD cards that have corrupted by inserting the card into my Mac, selecting "Initialize" when the option appears, and "repair disk" in Disk Utility. Then I simply re-insert the SD card, and then they are accessible. Something to keep in mind if you have a Mac, and want to recover your files on a corrupted SD card before reformatting.
