Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 50D

gothpugs, I first had to update my firmware to 1.0.9 per canon website.

After that I formatted CF card in camera, unzipped all files in ML downloaded zip to CF card, updated firmware from CF card and followed all camera onscreen instructions. It was very straightforward.

Thanks to everyone who helped develop this port. Amazing that it can add so many feature to this body. I'm still learning how to use Magic Lantern but really enjoy what I've played with so far on the 50D.

I actually went and sold my 70D because the 50D beats it in many categories. I was able to get not much less than I paid for a body that might lose value in the next year. Got some great photos with my 50D, interesting RAW videos, and think I can put the money towards a better use.

Ok here is the actual benchmark for anyone interested, Komputerbay 1066x 32GB. Used a Kingston FCR-HS3 USB3.0 reader. Have a 50D coming in the mail shortly so I'll finally be able to play with ML. I might sell my early firmware 70D.

Edit: nevermind this was my HD DOH!

Just got this card yesterday; benchmark looks too fast, any settings I should check? Its a Komputerbay 1066x 32GB. Used a Kingston FCR-HS3 USB3.0 reader.

If the card has a minimum write speed over 45 MB/s it should be fine problem is card specs are normally overrated

I have also had no luck. Bought in Germany October 2014 - Serial #053022****

One strange thing I have noted is that if I try sometimes to press the shutter button just after the firmware loaded page disappears but before the sensor clean screen I can get the camera to lock up and produce an error 80. This seems to stick around until I remove the ML directory.
This is not bricking the camera - Seems to be reversable

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

Once again, thank you Nikfreak for making any of this possible! I would love to help out where ever I can!
Cheers,
Rob
I just got the same err80 and froze. Scared the crap out of me for a second but pulling battery fixed it. As I said earlier in post #47 I bought Aug2014 from B&H in US 0620xxx model 70D(W)

Well shoot I can't load the firmware. It goes to the grey Canon "Firmware update program" screen with "Loading.." in the middle for 1 second then the screen turns black and quickly exits to the shooting info screen. I guess this means I have the older firmware. My 70D serial #06202xxx. I purchased the Camera Aug2014 from B&H.

I did Java and C programming 15 years ago so might try to learn more and help out. Maybe some of us can make a new thread and start work on the port for earlier firmware as Nitfreak and others are going to be busy enough.

Yeah I assumed wifi with video took too much power or processor speed or heat but maybe at 720p it would be fine. I guess I'll hope canon only wants it on higher end models and it's a simple tweak.

Was the 100ft wifi comment an exaggeration because even with clear sight my reception isn't close to that far. Maybe there is a way to setup a repeater or something.

Thanks for working on this!!! I've been following this thread for months back when I first heard of magic lantern; which of course was right AFTER I bought my first real DSLR the 70D. I'm excited to hopefully be able to try the software for the first time.
