ADJ,

I`ve had this crash thing going on too using the powergrip. I stopped using the power grip and now its no longer happening.

can anyone answer this please? I hear turning off global Draw will give me faster write speeds, but obviously i must see the framing acurately  in 2.35  aspect ratio.

General Help Q&A / Re: S-LOG with RAW only?
August 27, 2016, 07:54:29 AM
Yes you can bake the log profile into your dngs they are just not called s-logs.  If you are shooting raw with canon you have recorded the max sensor data. What you can do  is to convert the raw files using your cameras log data. I got mine from visionlog for the 50d. When you convert your raw or mlvraw, it will make your dng`s with the log profile built in. You can also use Adobe Camera Raw to select your camera profile when you load the dng sequence in After effects which is how i do it. Basically it makes your image super super flat so you can now grade it in adobe camera raw. I only use ACR for grading and i find it amazing.  Not sure how it works in davinci.  Magic Lantern Raw Video Converter 1.91 for instance lets you select ACR profile as you make your dng files. That`s where you select ACR profile ---- Visionlog_50d.dcp  or whatever your camera is for your log profile.

General Help Q&A / Re: dual iso with flash photo mode
August 27, 2016, 07:37:25 AM
So there is no special trick then? If you are using radio triggers its just like any other flash photo?
Ramon, I don`t see why you don`t just shoot bracketted exposures and keep everything at 100 iso, then blend in post. some of your outdoor exposures could still be brought down a bit. just use a tripod.

I`m mostly for portraits, wedding couples , maternity, people stuff.  The flash is more for beauty light but sometimes I`d like to not try to fight the sky exposure. So say i fire the flash for like 1600 iso exposure on the person but i need 100 iso for the sky to be blue.
If i was to use only flash with no dual iso, my flash would have to be 4 stops more powerfull to meet the sky. If i was to use only dual iso and no flash, i would get ok exposure on everything just not an intersting beauty light on the person. Angle and quality is what the flash gives me regardless  of what`s around. Sure i could use reflectors but that`s still not quite as good and powerful and introduces the squinting eyes problem.

You have to activate the module in the menu then restart your camera. Module menu should be on the far right. You have 2 options. MLV raw and Raw Video.

Has anyone tried this? Is it doable?

display --- Advanced settings--- Screen Layout

I heard you should turn off Global Draw, but if i do that soon as i hit record in mlv raw my lv screen jumps into almost a 4/3 aspect ratio. i consider that useless since i shoot 1.85.

So, must i have global draw on then? no other option?

General Help Q&A / 50d canon original batttery life
August 09, 2016, 02:59:25 AM
I`m in the process of making a custom 12,000mah battery pack for the 50d since my 50d came with imitation canon batteries which last for about 3 min of recording before dying.  I was wondering those that have original 50d batteries, how much recording time do you get more or less on a full charge in raw non crop.

General Help Q&A / Dual Iso on 50d
June 29, 2016, 06:10:04 PM
My 50d has lowest iso of 200. i set dual iso range 100/800 since i don't want higher than 800 grain etc. the difference between 100 and 800 is 3 stops. Is it possible to do this with my camera or 200/800 is as good as it gets?

here is the pad: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blue-100mmx100mmx1mm-GPU-CPU-Heatsink-Cooling-Thermal-Conductive-Silicone-Pad-/281523853145?hash=item418c211759:g:BI4AAOxyaURTjX~o
teardown of the canon 50d  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvFMFb9JylQ
seems pretty simple. looks like i need a soldering gun to remove the metal plate. Anyone else done this mod?
i assume the plastic transparency on the pad needs to be removed on both sides?

Duplicate Questions / MOO files or M00
June 14, 2016, 10:33:33 PM
I see some small files nex to the .mlv extensions as .M00
One of them is quite large 1.5GB when the .mlv is 4.1GB

do i need that and why is it on the card taking up so much space?

found the issue. shutter range.

General Help Q&A / Iso settings
June 09, 2016, 08:29:29 PM
I noticed there are 4 options to control iso. is there an explanation as to ideal combination somewhere? also i hear multiples of 160 is better but my 50d can't natively do this. with ml i can. does this mean if i see actual iso 160 or 320 that its going to be less noisy even though my canon only does 200, 400, 800 etc?
#16
yes. its in manual. i assume its a setting in ML. Optimize for low gello maybe?
#17
i can't set anything higher the 1/126th shutter speed in mlv raw or raw movie. what am i doing wrong?

Raw Video / mv1080crop canon 50d raw
June 01, 2016, 08:17:48 PM
I don't have this module installed and just read about it as a possible solution but i know nothing about it.
I understand to record raw crop mode I must hit the zoom button. However once i hit record the preview becomes more like 10x crop  instead of the expected 4x crop based on ff sensor. The image is also very dull instead of just gray. aspect ratio is also changed.

thanks. is anyone using the 50d in crop mode for raw video? I understand you hit crop + to go above the 1584x rez. It seems i can record 1920x in 2:67 aspect ratio but the preview is not right. How do you see your framing in crop mode on 50d ?  Also, even on non crop once i hit record the aspect ratio changes from 2:35 and i can't see any overlays only the MB/s counter and red rec icon.

General Help Q&A / Dual iso processing help
June 01, 2016, 07:36:32 PM
i tried the drag and drop over the cr2hdr.exe file but nothing happens. I need a more dummy proof instruction please on how to process dual iso shot photos.
#21
my canon 50d has the lowest iso at 200. Since multiples of 160 are ideal for less grain does this mean my lowest option in real iso is 320?

Also, canon digital iso says highly recommended 0, however i can never get it below 1. is this due to 200 iso limit by canon ?

So, if i don't want to go any higher than 1600 my best setup is 200/1600 ?
i was able to get real iso as low as 50? are there disadvantages/advantages to this is relation to dual iso?

Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 50D
May 31, 2016, 12:02:04 AM
just installed v2.3 stable version and I got a few surprises.
1. when i hit Func over 1920 x 1080p 30fps i only have 3 options. 1080p 30fps, 640x480 and disabled.
2. I don't see any options to enable raw video. Should there not be a M menu for loading modules?

Edit: what? v2.3 does not have raw? i don't get it? is there any stable version that does raw and custom resolutions, frame rates? if not, which is the safest?
#23
is that the max resolution you can get with 60fps?

garry23,

Are you using it with the 50d and magic lantern? I thought, you could not use any other power source other then original canon batteries with ML or least durring install? which battery pack are you using?

I'm in brazil and there is a lot of fake bateries. My canon 50d battery lasts 1 hour but only with the lcd on. That is, no recording. I found that to be below normal which leads me to believe i have a pirate battery. How long should an original canon 50d battery last fully charged?
Also, why can't i start a new topic?
