@ kelvin K

I know that lens have nothing to do with fps. I am just reporting what happened to me. I don't have any reason to lie or being stubborn about it. It seemed odd to me as well that i could record at 60 fps with the canon 24-105 but not with the samyang 85, because that happened to me, i just wanted to see if it was an isolated case or not. Now it seems to me that it was an isolated case!

Well I work for a a big production company and honestly this was a full production shoot. Involving two scout days, tons of planing, research, casting, props work and two days of shooting and one night for a crew of 15people in a Hotel out in the countryside. It costs a lot.

aka around the €6000 mark if i am not mistaken. Maybe more, depending on the actors i would say :) Loved the video.

@ extremelypoorfilmake to record at 60 fps, you've to change canon resolution to 720p/60 and then choose desired fps in FPS OVERRIDE option.

I know that. i even wrote that in my post if you will look back :), not the FPS override option, but it recorded at 60 fps before without having to fiddle with the fps override. I just wanted to know if anybody has experienced something similar that happened to me: The 6D NOT being able to record at 60fps with a full manual lens (no communication with the camera at all) :) that's all

A litle off-topic. i just found it funny :) i am the culprit who now moved it up to 667 :D

More on the topic:

Once i tried to do some filming at 60 fps MLV using a samyang 85mm T1.5 (all manual lens) But instead, it recorded at 30 fps, even thought I selected the 60 fps option from the canon menu (as that is the way to record 60 fps). Switched the lens with my canon 24-105mm L (with the camera on) and it was able to record 60 fps, but not with the all manual lens on. Rebooted the camera, the problem disappeared. Has anyone experienced something similar before? thanks.

By the way, i tried to record RAW and MLV, changing different resolution settings, going from the maximum resolution to the continuos resolution settings, still even thought with all the correct settings it should have recorded 60 fps, it just stopped at 30fps.

I can say with confidence that to get a nice and sharp image out of MLV you need to do this: (it works for me)

WHILE SHOOTING:

1st. f or T stop MUST be above 4. (anything below, you need to have a REALLY good lens and REMEBER: REALLY GOOD does not measn costing in the thousands! ;))
2nd you MUST have the main light source BEHIND your camera
3rd Lens hood or matte box will prevent flares and help sharpen the image a bit by keeping your front element in "the darkness" :D
4th Stay as still as you can / need to be.
5th MAKE SURE lenses and sensor are clean.
6th Make sure what you actually want sharp as a razor is focused correctly
7th Record the image with a flat profile, in the canon menu picture style (sharpness 0, image contrast -4, image tone -2)

WHILE POST-PROCESSING:

The clarity parameter in lightroom does miracles ;)
Look for sharpen image, unsharp mask or stuff like that but BEWARE ofartifacts! (I personally don't use them very often, The clarity paramete in Lightroom does the job well for me)

And that's it pretty much! If you still get not really sharp images, i think is either one of this three options:

1) you are using very low quality lenses :)
2) you are not setting up your exposure settings properly :)
3) there is something wrong with the MLV files o_O??

I have a 6D.. but i don't know how to "dump the rom" and also, there is a risk of losing the camera by "dumping the rom"? Please, have mercy! I know nothing about coding.. I am a mere humble user of this holy garil called Magic Lantern :)

Thank you guys! I really have a long way to go. I hope i will be able to put some money togheter and find a cheap and interesting idea to develop! :)

Here, i humbly present to you my very first Magic Lantern video i made with a Canon 6D.
Thy video is littered with mistakes of all sorts.
It was made with a budget of £0 literally. The actress you will see actually paid me lunch and had to pay the travel expenses as well because i was (still i am) broke.
Please, feel free to unleash all your criticism o mighty professionals that happen to click on this link.

GEAR:
Canon 6D + Magic Lantern
Samyang 85mm T1.5
Canon 24-105mm L f4
Sigam 15mm Fisheye f2.8
Tripod + Manfrotto MVH500AH + Koolerton 120cm slider (cheap, unstable and jittery as hell)

SOFTWARE USED:

Lightroom: color grading / correction
after effects: Single clips export and stabilization
Premiere: Editing and rendering

Please, be mercifull.. :)

I have a 6D and i shoot MLV buy my autofocus still works. Wait, are you suggesting you want to use autofocus in video mode? :D My suggestion would be: Simply don't. the 6D autofocus in video mode is too slow and useless.. but that is my opinion

As a 6D user, at the moment i can record RAW video at 1792 x 750 x 23.987FPS x 14bit to a maximum of 20 sec. than it skips frame.. But my guess is that it has to do that maybe i was shooting particularl dark subjects?

A few bugs i think i have noticed in the nightly build version i am running on my 6D: magiclantern-Nightly.2014Aug20.6D113

I just noticed this two things:

When recording using MLV instead of RAW even trough the canon menu the fps 24 in NTSC format, it records at 30 fps.

When fiddling with the FPS overrride and try to set 24 or 23.987 the view from the liveview it's absolutely fucked up (not the overlay, but the image from the sensor) in terms of fucked up i mean: Green cast, dark lines dividing the picture in half pixels everywhere part of the image in black and white and so on.

Curios thing.. it did that once, a few moment ago. i tried now and it did not do anything

Sorry, i might be just a bit of an amateur, but.. for the time being, just using the slate with all the shot info in front of the camera for every shot does not solve that? :)

Hi evetyone, i was checking the [ML] Canon EOS Features Comparison chart, and i was wondering why the Max Continuos recording at 24 and 30fps of the 6D are not updated. On the nightly build i am using, this are the stats. They work fine, so far.

6D MAX Res 30fps Continuos recording:

4:3 = 960x720
16:9 = 1152x648
2.35:1 = 1344x572

6D MAX Res 24fps Continuos recording:

4:3 = 960x720
16:9 = 1280x720
2.35:1 = 1504x640

Hi guys, here is the link of my very first music video

I used a Canon 6D with the 24-105mmL lens for the reharsal shots. The band also wanted me to use the footage they got from their trip to sweden during the video. They used a GoPro for it. I guess you can easily spot the difference.

RAW footage was color graded in Adobe Lightroom and After Effects, montage was done in Premier Pro. Final export was at 1080 h.264 for iPad
I hope you will like it :)
