I've been thinking about getting a new camera, and buy a T7i but I really can't find all that many videos of how it performs, did the camera flop?

I want to start a discussion among the filmmakers around here who use tracking shots (not to be confused with pans or tilts). I am interested in knowing how you achieve these shots and make them as fluid / stable as possible.

In my case, I use a slider (e-photo 1.20m, do not recommend, it wobbles) or hand held. In either case, I have limits and setup times to take into account. I am trying to use a Laing P-4S but once balanced it seems to wobble side to side when I move with it (maybe I don't know how to use it? I am practicing and it seems to be improving).

Seeing as the GH5 (to be released middle of next year) will have 4k 10 bit 4:2:2 video, I wonder if this will have an industry wide ripple and force Canon, Nikon and others to include this in there 1k to 2k DSLRs?

I was wondering if someone can tell me where I can buy some decent quality (non translucent) muslin or other material backgrounds for video and  photography. I'd like a 10'x12' chroma green (and if money permits, a black and white one as well).

On amazon, I see a lot of very cheap ones, and lots of 1 star reviews warning against them being to thin to do the job that they are advertised to do. I don't want to mess this up because I only got one shot at buying this.

Hello folks! I have a question regarding photography. I cover a lot of weddings, baptisms, quinceañeras, etc, almost all are catholic, but I usually cover the video aspect. It seems like I will have some photography work cut out for me however, and I have noticed that the most photographers do their work as quickly (you don't get more than a few minutes at the end of the ceremony, anyways) as possible with very little tinkering in the camera. My questions are: what mode do they shoot in? And can anyone post examples of pictures you take at the church?

I found another thread with this question, but no one answered. I shoot video on a 600D, and I would like to be able to change the ISO with the dial wheel in the same way you change the shutter speed, without having to open other menus and be able to have access to the mid point ISOs (i.e. 160, 320, 640, etc)... is this possible? Note: shutter speed would be locked at 1/50 or 1/60.

Hello, I've been wanting to ask about how to improve live view on a 600D. Whenever I shoot video or take photos from liveview, live view is always brighter than the finished product. My histogram is telling me everything is properly exposed, but liveview looks overexposed. I am not overriding any settings with ML, and I have brightness at 6, but I can see an enormous difference when reviewing my shots on the camera.

Any good fixes?

I'm curious, and since I don't have a lot of people around here to discuss things with, I want to know: Do you ever break the 180º rule when shooting video on a DSLR? Are there cases when you choose a lower or higher shutter speed than twice the FPS (other than shooting stuff for twixtor)? If yes, what are they?

It seems like it's been ages since camera manufacturers started releasing 4k capable mirror-less cameras and camcorders. So far, neither Canon nor Nikon have released a single consumer APS-C DSLR or Mirrorless camera capable of 4k@24p or 4k@30p, and according to camera rumors on the internet, 2016 is shaping up to be no different.

I find this amazingly discouraging, as I really want to get into 4k video, but I don't want to buy Sony or Panasonic cameras. Surely Canon must be aware of how many videographers use their DSLR's as their camera of choice, with or without ML. My question is why are they not improving video capabilities? Even if we didn't get 4k video (so as to not compete with the cinema line), there are plenty of ways of improving current DSLR's video capabilities, such as improved dynamic range, better bit depth, reduced sensor noise, 120 FPS, better bit-rates, etc.

I just find it so odd that Canon (and Nikon) seem to have given up entirely on the video front of their products. Are they waiting for one or the other to make the first move (people have suggested Nikon is interested in bring 4k video to all their DSLR's) or are they trying to force people who want to do professional video to only use their cinema line (which would bankrupt people like me if I tried)?

I'm interested in making a little money on the side, and perhaps stock footage is the way to go. I own a T3i and I can do some decent shooting on it, but I don't know exactly what to film and where to sell it. I'm guessing static random crowd, traffic, park, wildlife (maybe bugs?) shots is what I should be aiming for, and since I have freetime on the weekends, I'm guessing that I could pull it off. I will be receiving a camera stabilizer next week, which I wonder if I should also include those kind of shots.

Suggestions and experience are welcome.

So... I'm still working with my T3i, I've had my eye on getting a 5D mk iii for some time now, but I just can't seem to save up enough to purchase it (seeral expenses have set me back). I've noticed that 6D are now back instock at b&h and are much closer to my price range (will still need to buy a lens for it).

Now I do a lot of different type of work with my T3i. I do greenscreen (got a small studio with proper lighting, I pull decent keys for what it is), work in lots of low light (lighting is generally poor indoors and outdoors where I live), and I sometimes I can do proper commercial work. I've seen the amazing difference in noise reduction of the 6D vs 70D, and the 70D vs the T3i, I can imagine that with ALL-I (correct term?) and say a 50mm 1.8, I should be able to do decent low light with my small 160LED lamp, and even better greenscreen in my small studio.

If your budget limit was 1500.00, would this be the best camera you could afford for the above tasks when upgrading from the T3i/600D?

I recently looked at a Nikon 35mm f1.8 LINK: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/606792-USA/Nikon_2183_AF_S_Nikkor_35mm_f_1_8G.html and it looks like a pretty solid lens for video, but I'm confused by the relatively moderate ratings that even the expenisve adapters get. I understand that this is a g mount, and it won't have AF (don't care about AF anyways, I'm doing video mostly). I've read things such as the mount causing a 1.54 crop factor (can't confirm this, anyone here can?) to loss of aperture stops, light leaks, etc... I know a good number of people here have the capacity to buy expensive equipment and don't consider anything less to be of value, but in my case I need balanced  options between quality and price. I guess I can sum up my question to, what lens mount adapter is suited for this lens that will work on a 600D?

I bought a pack of neewer lapel / lavalier mics and I'm getting good results using it with my tascam dr-05, but I'm interested in making them wireless. I'm looking for a set of clip on trasnmitters that allow me to hook up 3.5mm mics and a receiver that allows me to use two or three of these at a time. Any solutions?

So, the official specs for the 750D and 760D have leaked online... and I must say, they are somewhat interesting, especially since HDR movie is in the specs , mentioned as a seperate type of video mode than  just 1080p. Any idea what HDR movie is, does it compare to ML HDR minus the post processing and maybe reduced control?

EDIT2: I somehow managed to post the wrong link, and can't find the original. There is another site that has the full official specs for these cameras, and not the rumored ones, but still the rumored ones are almost identical to the other sites official specs.

So I'm using a 600D, and I want a good wide angle lens adapter for my 18-55mm kit lens for using in 3X crop mode recording, but I'm not sure which one is best suited for this? I want to in essence, get the same FOV as if the 3X crop wasn't there to get non lineskipped video with a kit lens. Any recommendations?

As for external recorders, like the Atomos Ninja Star, is the video recorded on the 600D significantly better? (I understand that there is some cropping required). Would this device also be useful on the t4i and t5i and other newer gen models?

All I can think of for now, but if I have other questions, I'll just post here.

So I'm working with the 600D, and I found out recently that the 3x zoom reduces moire and aliasing (quite a bunch according to my tests), and it improves the overall picture quality by using a 1:1 ratio from the sensor. My questions are, is this the correct way of using the crop mode for h.264 and raw recording, from the canon menu? Or is it supposed to be used from some ML menu or module that I might not have seen? How to shoot in 3x crop mode with 720p a 30 or 24fps?

So I'm fooling around with ISO 50 - 80, and getting awesome results with  a lot more DR than I can get without this. Only problem is, a few highlights are pinkish. I look around and I find people saying this is normal and fixable in post, but I haven't seen anyones process. Is it just selecting the regions and CCing them? Is there a more methodical way? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.

So I've been fooling around with my 600D and RAW video and found interesting results. While I'm getting a whole lot more detail, I'm also getting a whole lot more noise (I'm using auto ettr but I only have a kit lens and have only been able to shoot in poor low light condtions, will try shooting in daylight to see if the problem is strictly related to low light).

As a windows user, I'm pretty confused as to how the workflow goes with this type of footage. I tried MLRawViewer, but sometimes it would corrupt my video when using sRGB curve. I keep reading about different workflows but I still not sure which one to use. I want to end up with ProRes clips that are upscaled to 1080p and just use those in premiere (anyone got any workflows that can work like this on windows?)

Another issue, some clips will have what appears to be major chromatic aberration in a very strong magenta color. Or sometimes there will be a random pixel or group of pixels that is 100% magenta in the middle of nowhere. How does one fix or prevent this?

I'm considering purchasing a better camera, but I can't decide between the 700D, 6D or 5D2. I have a limited budget, and any of those do higher res raw than my 600D, but I don't know which of the 3 is the best investment.

Regarding the previous, the 5D2 does not have exfat according to the chart in the ML cameras raw res, does that mean every 4gb the shot is broken up into another file (loosing frames in the process)?

Any tutorials on how to use Auto ETTER properly, I haven't found one that I completely understand yet.

Thats all for now, but I might have more questions. Sorry for being redundant and asking what is probably old and boring questions, but I just don't know where to start when it comes to RAW.

I just saw that there is a childboard for workflow, and I was able to find post process tutorials that made much more sense than the bits and pieces I picked up from random threads, that helps alot, no need to answer post process questions now. My main question is however which of the 3 mentioned cameras  would be better for continuous 24p or 30p raw shooting? I'm inclined to go with the 700D because of price and if 960*518 impresses me, I think 1280*720 raw will do so even more. Also, it means I wouldn't have to buy any new batteries and my SD cards would work on it.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here would like to discuss how they white balance before shooting video? I play it by eye and usually get it right or close enough that very little CC is needed, but sometimes I do miss the mark. Is there a more  methodical way using magic lanterns histogram, vector scope or other tools? Please share! 

Hey folks, I do wedding and other social events videography, and have been using magic lantern for a time, but I notice that some times there isn't enough time to set things manually without missing the first few vital seconds of an action, for instance, from the bright exterior of the church to the dark interior, I have to change the aperture but also the ISO, I kinda wish iso was automatic (maybe even aperture) but limited to only a certain level (max iso 1600). Is this possible some how? Auto iso in the interior of the church flies up to 3200 when 1600 is fine, due to the weird lighting conditions of the church.

Suggestions?

Im unsure whether I should post this here or in off topic, because I don´t think this is an ML thing. I was filming the party of a baptism today, and I recently got the BG-E8 battery grip with two vivitar batteries. I decided to use the vivitar batteries first, and all was fine, however right after finishing a vital shot, the battery life indicator went from full to empty and the camera shut down almost immediately because the batteries had died. Now I then put in two other generic batteries, and I didn´t run them out. My question is, is this normal behavior with all batteries? Just an instant shutdown when the batteries die? Or is it because of the vivitar batteries? Does any one else have this battery grip and can tell me whether other batteries report their life when used in the grip? Is this because of ML?

I ordered a Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s 64gb about a week ago, and it should be arriving between today and tomorrow and now I find out that it has problems with Magic Lantern and the 600D. Does anyone know if this has been fixed in the latest nightly build or functioning workaround?

Does this also happen with 32gb cards?

I've been experimenting with the latest nightly build of magic lantern for the 600D/T3i and using the cinestyle picture style. I have set my zebras for underexposure at 7%(18) and for overexposure at 79%(201) as it seems that anything over this gives me a blown highlight. I'm wondering if these values are correct or if I don't know how to expose properly. I'm looking to get the greatest dynamic range and detail in highlights and shadows. It would also help if a workflow and color correction technique be included, as I haven't nailed that down either (I'm on windows, I have access to premiere and aftereffects, h264 video isn't very cpu friently and I can't convert it to prores, so I wonder what the windows equivalent workflow is?). I will be going to the park on saturday for a reshoot (I did a large shoot this last saturday but I am far from satisfied with the results) and I plan on posting it on the forums to receive further suggestions.

Sorry if I am asking too many questions, I just need a bit of general overall orientation.
