Did you have Magic Lantern installed? Lanterns often attract insects...

If you could tag specific posts so that they are invisible to the search engine, or just not included in the results, it would make it possible to search for an answer without ending up with hundreds of results where the reply says "Use the search engine". You'd also be able to hide answers that are outdated, misleading, or just plain wrong...

You can still use colour filters when recording. When you convert to B&W it should give roughly the same effect as with B&W film.

A1ex, that would be very cool if you can swing it. Best of luck.

There may be no intention to abandon Canon support and development, but any way you look at it it's a division of resource. There currently aren't enough developers and testers to get a new stable release out and there are several abandoned (or at least stalled) models already...

Just being realistic, I know the devs would love to be able to do everything...

I think he means the auto power off setting in the Canon firmware.

I appreciate the issues involved and sympathise wholeheartedly with the ML devs, but I'm thinking genies and bottles, here. Once the code is public, unscrupulous types are going to nick bits of it if it suits them. Hard to think of a solution to that one...

That would explain what I saw. Thanks for the clarification.

I've seen photos online taken with Canon EOS cameras where they were listed as using ISO 50, but I have no idea how this was achieved. I assumed it was an EV adjustment, but I've not tried it.

1.1.1 is the firmware required on the 60D. For the 600D you'll have better luck with 1.0.2, which I believe is also the latest for that camera.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Remove Lens Coatings???

Coatings are probably on all elements as light can reflect off any glass surface in the lens assembly.

You could spray the lens with an atomiser full of water before taking the photo. Or with a weak gelatin solution if you're feeling brave.

No, I have not yet found a need to do lens corrections at all. What I tend to do in DPP is play with the colour saturation, brightness, contrast and shadow/highlight levels, do any cropping or rotations needed and then save the changes back to the CR2 file before saving a TIFF format copy for further processing in Photoshop CS3. I use CS3 for sharpening, fine adjustments and size reduction before saving as a JPG for upload to Flickr if the end result is up to par. I like the fact that the original image data is unchanged in the CR2 file, (which may also be true for a DNG file, I don't know), but for financial reasons I'm restricted to the tools I currently have, and I simply don't have anything that plays nice with the DNG files that cr2hdr produces. I've only had my 600D for a couple of months and didn't have any DSLR before that, so I'm still on a bit of a learning curve with it all.

Has there been any progress on this utility? I'm very interested in getting CR2 files out of the Dual ISO stills procedure as a) I use Canon's DPP as the first stage of my normal image processing and b) I don't seem to be able to load the .DNG files currently produced into Photoshop CS3.

Having just read this thread twice, it's my understanding that DPMikey is shooting video, and consequently producing .MLV files, NOT .CR2 files. He needs to be told what to do with the .MLV files. Telling him what to do with .CR2 files is confusing things.
