Quotedo you use ETTR because you used to it or does the EOS CMOS sensor have less dynamic in the shadows ?

ETTR is a common practice in the industry with digital cameras depending of the sensor and log image. But with the Raw data, I think ETTR should always be used for clean/usable images. it increases usable dynamic range, and because it is linear, it is safer than LOG or GAMMA curves which have a toe and shoulder in their designed curves. So there is no risk that skin tones will bleed into the shoulder. We use it on Sony cameras, especially since their signal-to-noise ratio is high.

QuoteGraded in HDR color processing mode with Rec709 Color Space output, no other transformation

I think it is totally usable without noise reduction. Good stuff.

Quotethanks a lot.. 1.7Gb is too much I thought this is MLV raw clip..

I don't keep the mlv clips sorry. But lossless dng's are smaller in size I think than mlv clips.

QuoteI'm a newbie never worked with 1x3 video, how to you stretch the image?

I select "stretch" in the scaling panel, then drop the zoom Y from 1.00 to 0.758 for all clips.

Hahah seems that thoses cats are the boss of the house ^^ I really like the BTS scenes as its really clean close to reality colors and contrast

also the High Iso test, you home lighting is warn yes ? Did you push the slider toward the blue a bit or is it stock non grade ?

They are indeed :) But we are lucky they all get along.
There were 2 smart bulbs and at ISO 3200 it was almost clipping on highlights. As long as you expose it to the right [ETTR], ISO 3200 is usable.
I generally set white balance to daylight in Resolve and then tweak it to my taste. I don't remember the grading on this but generally it goes like rec709 on Raw Tab--> CST rec709 to Arri/BMDFILM5 etc --> Arri/BMDFILM5 Rec709 LUT.

650D MLRaw High Iso Tests
Filmed in 1x3 and 10bit.
Minimal noise reduction in Resolve just to take the edge off. [Temporal 1, Spatial 10]

The issue I'm having is that I get a jump in exposure setting after hitting record. Exposure ramp is turned off and I've checked all my settings in both Canon and ML settings and there's nothing obvious to suggest user error.

Check if shutter fine-tuning is enabled.

Finally got a fast enough SD card. More 10-12 bit footage from 650D

Hey, thank you!

I agree DNG's coming out of ML Raw has that vibe.

I didn't use enable fix bad pixels on this video but my 650 had a dead pixel which I mapped in MLV app now and use it always with the 2nd interpolation method.
Also, I always use the "fix focus dots" setting and use chroma smoothing whenever I film in 10-bit.

After years I grabbed my dusty 650D and tried the latest build from Bilal. Now I am considering getting a fast enough card to try other than the lowest resolution/bit depth.

They all look great. 5D Mark III is still killing it.

Nice one. Loved the scenes and ML gave the footage that cinema feel.
#16
Awesome dude. Will try the new build next week. Thanks so much.

I don't know if these will be useful for anyone but I created some MLV's for dark frame subtraction for my own use because sometimes
I forget to do it on the field so at least I have something to use for later.

I filmed these for three 2:35 modes, all in 36|38 Celcius temperature, for both 10bit and 12bit outputs in resolutions that I use most often.
They are all 15sec long.

Great Walter, The new build september 30 2020 has an issue with the shutter speed...

Pulling the battery out and putting back in seems to fix it in my experience.

Canon EOS 650D (T4i) Magic Lantern Raw Test.
All been shot using 3x crop mode (movie crop) except one shot which shot using the crop-rec module.
Build: crop_rec_4k.2020Sep30.650D104.zip
The software has been used in order: MLV App, Davinci Resolve, After Effects, Adobe Media Encoder.
Upscaled in Davinci Resolve to 1440p from 1800*760.

Sharpening and saturation are exaggerated.

Any advice on my workflow is appreciated.

Really well shot. Beautiful.

Thanks Walter. Actually, I still have that VAF filter (was expensive yes) but I forgot if I ever used it except the h264 recording. Will give it a try.

Hi everyone.

Long story short, I bought a Sony 6500 in 2017 and retired my 650D that year. Today I decided to give my 650D to my girlfriend so she can have a photo camera,
then I realized it still has Magic Lantern on it and I fell in love with it again. Also discovered the MLV app which looks great.

I use to shoot raw video with it and the workaround was to get rid of the aliasing and moire was to shoot in crop mode.
Are there any changes in that regard? Is it possible to not use crop mode and have slightly less aliasing and moire?

Thanks to all and keep rocking.

Known issue indeed. I think if you leave "highlights" and "shadows" sliders alone it should work much better for scenes where light changes dramatically when you do panning etc. But then what's the point if you are not getting the benefit of extra dynamic range that Magic Lantern Raw offers to you. That's why I use Cinelog and I'm really happy with it. It's a paid product but give it a look. There should be some free and similar products too.
