The scientific way of obtaining the results you want in image processing is to change the parameters of your workflow in a systematic manner untill you achieve the best looking result. This is of course subjective, but isn't that what matters in image processing?

And it is great to share your results, so that other people can critique and improve on your workflow. What is not scientific, is to state what is "known" without showing anything to back it up. I have read enough scientific literature to know that statements such as "it is widely known"  is often found in poorly written papers.

Mk, sorry for asking this (I am on a bad laptop on an expensive gprs connection or I would attempt it myself);
My build (v2.3 NEXT Jun 3rd for 550d) is unable to load the bolt module you linked (error: OldAPI Wrong version v1.3, expected 1.2).

If it wont take you too long and it is possible, could you compile it for v1.3? Thanks in advance.

Limited by the data-rate of the 550d, I would like to figure out the lowest frame rate needed for twixtoring of complex movement such as waves and trees in the wind,  giving natural looking results.

In this video@18 fps->30fps, wave movement looks natural to me, with some minor tearing of the sail (no pun intended) against the skyline, which I can probably fix as I learn how to use Twixtor better.

I made another video containing wave movement earlier at 6 fps that I twixtored to 24 fps, but the result was pretty bad, with very unnatural looking movement of the waves.

So does anyone have experience twixtoring water movement? What is the minimum required frame rate and what settings should be used?

thats the plan.
Awesome! I made a feature request for this function some days back. Glad to hear you are working on it.

- rawanizer=> dng
- canon raw software => tiff ( "grading" done completely in raw then exported as 12 bit tiffs)
- Quicktime => dnxhd 10bit
- editing/scaling in lightworks
Thanks!

What canon raw software do you use? I am unable to open the dng's in DPP.

hello!

i´m completely new to this forum. first of all: thank you all for that incredible software!
i did some testshots with my beloved 550D.

setup is in the video specs.

Very nice! What resolution and fps did you shoot at, and what pp workflow did you use? You've got a lot more detail in those shots than I have been able to get.

I ended up lowering the fps to increase resolution. I was able to shoot for about 300+ frames at 1600x672 (2.39:1) at 12fps. Twixtor has no problem filling in the missing data. I used Instant HD to bring the footage up to 1920x806.
What workflow did you use for Twixtoring+Instant HD? I tried using both in AE (Instant HD on a Solid and Twix on the clip), but it rendered without the Twixtoring. So I had to use a twixtored intermediate which I upscaled with Instant HD, but I would like to save some time by avoiding this extra step.

What would be the most suitable file format for Premiere Pro be? 8-bit tiff?

Would be awesome if someone can provide a tutorial for dng -> mp4; including the optimal way to grade raw video, twixtoring lower fps and/or upscaling resolution.

Awesome work!

I am now able to get 960x512@24fps and 1280x400@24fps, using Hacked Mode with 720p@50 fps canon setting in video mode. Using a Sandisk 32GB 95Mb/s.

As an option for photographing lightning in a thunder storm, it would be nice to have the option of letting ML continuously fill buffer with Silent Pictures and save its content upon motion detect trigger.

Does the RAW silents work on a 550d yet? Thanks.

Trying to compile for 550D using Cygwin with Mercurial installed through cygwin setup.exe, and it fails.

Is there any good way of masking treelines against a bright sky (which I wish to lower the exposure on) without getting ugly edges like you do when you use auto-mask?

Some research tells me I wont need to modify them for my camera (on some full-frame cameras the aperture bayonette might collide with the mirror).

Thanks! Will I need to modify the lenses in any permanent way? (My father mightwant to use it on his old pentax body again)

Thanks for the replies guys. My brother gave me his old 50mm f/1.8 II and I bought a sigma 70-300mm DG macro on sale.

I rummaged through the cellar and found a couple of my fathers old Pentax lenses: SMC Pentax-M f/1.7 50mm and f/3.5 135mm. What sort of adapter will I need, to use it on my 550d? and how should I expect it to work (like how reliable is auto focus confirm chips on some adapters)? Any adapter brand you would recommend?

Hardware and Accessories / Lenses for 550d
July 01, 2012, 03:54:38 PM
Hey guys. I'm a new owner of a 550d(with the kit lens: IS II) and feel I should get some quality lenses. I'm looking to buy a 50 mm f/1.4 or 1.8 and possibly a 18-135ish mm lens. I'll be shooting portraits, landscapes, city-scapes with quite a bit of HDR as well as some video/HDR-vid.

Any suggestions for a tight budget, is there any good non-canon lenses for me? I'm also looking at ebay.
