Its the IR af assist... I've had it come on by itself before not sure if it was on 400D or 600D.

General Help Q&A / Re: Movie mode remap (problems)

I left it on in my repository but I've only made 600D binaries. I've made some unified but only on the stock branch.

Never mind, being dumb... there are 2 trap focus styles now.

I had my first lockup by doing ISO+LV in M and then flipping to A-Dep. Makes sense that this action crashes the camera though.

As many times as you want. It doesn't re-write the firmware in memory when you load ML. It reads it from the SD card. As to how many times you can flash .fir files... might be limited by the writes on the chip. usually that is like a few 1000 or 100k so no worries.
#5633
There is a competing ML? Do tell....
#5634
Yea, even the monitoring. The Pre-Amp may suck but I have a different one that takes XLR input and I think I could get "acceptable" results. Cannon wasn't too nice switching the IC if it has the same or worse performance than 550D.

How does trap focus work now? I still can't get it to snap without holding half shutter or setting sticky HS. I thought it didn't need it.

Also I don't ONLY shoot video... also noise from the motor isn't always so quiet.

I like the sigma.Im going for Tokina 11-16mm next. I like their 50-150 except for the AF. Nice constant 2.8s that can do double duty.

Not only that... the lenses can appreciate. That $500 lens could be $800 next year. New entry level EF-S lenses might actually lose value.

Wonder if they develop similar to magic lantern... same code base with slight changes as needed for each model. I'm surprised in this long while nobody has leaked their firmware sources.

Menus look good, why change it? Too much flashiness will probably take up too much memory.

It was zooming close on that point with every shot. After the first fix it would zoom to middle then jump to that point when you pressed anything. Now its all fixed and I have a way to try to test the af patterns easily.

Strange it would zoom on different point for me.

*Tested out the fix and it works very well indeed.

New zoom on 100% + afp zooms to somewhere in the middle then immediately jumps slightly to the side on next press of zoom or arrow key. I actually don't mind this. Although I can turn it off too now.

The zoom in/zoom out seems to have gotten way more responsive and smooth.

Camera rejected lens faking its on here somewhere.

I think the screen and the crop mode are good. 5d has full frame, more power and better HDMI output.

I wish I could find a solution soon but I'm a shitty programmer and alex has no 600D.

There are some OK ones but the ones that lack even HSM... I have my doubts.

Have you tried any non stabilised lenses for video yet? It shakes.

I dunno... what do you want to spend? What do you want to do? You've pretty much summed up all photography. 18-135 is crap... it is EF-S and not USM.  Get the 28-135 IS USM for a good starter. I think it comes with 7D as a kit. I have the 35-135 non IS because I cheaped out at first. Also get the 1.8 50, its much cheaper and 50mm is not all that on an APS-C. I cheaped out further here and got nikon adapter & a nikon 50.

55-250 is also not USM and EFs. Real lenses are going to cost  as much as you paid for your 550d. Go try some stuff out... ie borrow and rent before you spend the money, especially if you don't have a lot of it to invest into this.

Ok, I looked at audio.c and .h

The addresses in the .h file don't correspond to what is in the wiki but audio meters do work so some must be the same.

I.e for TurnAVLineMuteOff=
0x5703                           0x2210

I do not see the 2210 address anywhere nor the function. In audio.c I only see it checking if the usb is detected and forcing display to stay on. I never found it sending ic_writes to anything.

I see it setting gain by sending write to AUDIO_IC_SIG2/1 but I'm not sure what is actually changing after data is read from addresses... I guess I can google that part and how to read/flip registers correctly but I'm still confused.

*I do see the regular flip a register function but not sure what to set the address to or do

Is there any framework to go by? I'm OK at modifying but writing fresh functions not so much. Can you send commands to change registers through the console?

Buffer is in the camera...  how would this work?
