Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: MLRawViewer can't export
February 25, 2015, 07:44:35 PM
Deleting the MDX files didn't do anything.
Otherwise, I can't use any other release because there's no Linux releases in the Download section. I can only can download the repo and then call the python setup script...

Perfect, worked, thanks :).

I have problems with MLRawViewer on kUbuntu 14.04. Opened an extra thread here. Should that have gone into this thread?
#82
With sudo, yes. But that kinda defeats the idea of userspace tools, doesn't it? :)

Question:
When I take those DNGs and pipe them through the script, the ProRes result is very Rec709-ish. Means, colors and contrast look already pretty normal which doesn't leave awfully much space to work with. Is it possible to get a result more towards the direction of C-Log or Cinestyle?

Raw Video Postprocessing / Compiling raw2dng on Ubuntu
February 09, 2015, 01:52:24 PM
I'm trying to compile raw2dng on Ubuntu but I'm not getting anywhere...

Is there a static 64bit build somewhere available? I don't really want to start installing all kinds of additional stuff which I don't need, like ARM cross compiler, etc. on my workstation...

Raw Video Postprocessing / ffmpeg on Linux
February 09, 2015, 01:22:07 PM
So the ffmpeg developers have fixed the segfault bug after I reported it. Transcoding MLV does work now. However, I'm a bit irritated about the result. The image is very dark and greenish. If I push the levels up I get really bad banding. MLRawViewer shows the same file perfectly with no banding (but export doesn't work...)

Raw Video Postprocessing / MLRawViewer can't export

Hi,

I'm trying to export with MLRawViewer. When I try to export to MOV, I get a 185b small MOV-file and MLRawViewer stops at 0.14%.

I would wait for the Axiom with EF mount. I had a similar thinking process just that I was thinking about a Sony A7s plus a Shogun vs. a GH4 vs. a Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.
Now I have postponed my decision, hoping that there will be an Axiom Beta available also as a regular product (and not only for Kickstarter backers) and waiting for reviews.

General Help Q&A / Re: False color / green screen
February 05, 2015, 09:27:44 PM
Nope, they don't. That screenshot was just quick and dirty. As I wrote above, earlier I tested with the Marshall palette, setting lighting up so that everything was medium grey with a bit of blue and orange and when I switched to greenscreen palette, everything was greay with those dots as some kind of boundary between the grey that is grey also in the Marshall palette and the grey that is orange or blue in the Marshall palette. But I don't see any bigger green areas as I would expect to when I look at the palette...

Well, if I would understand that palette... It looks like medium luma values should appear in green but they don't...

Ummmm, nope. I don't have any blue or red. The min max and average, yes, but my palette is shades of gray with lots of green in the center. No red or blue. Is ML for 6D different in functionality than for the 5DII?

General Help Q&A / False color / green screen
February 05, 2015, 07:12:30 PM
Hi,

I have discovered the false color function and I love it! It's a huge help, especially for even lighting of chroma key backdrops. I am however puzzled by the green screen palette. I never get a green screen. The only thing I get is more or less even gray and when I change the exposure I get green edges at some grey fields. The display of the palette in the menu, however, looks like the display should actually be green when the backdrop is evenly lit and optimally exposed.
I even tried switching to Marshall palette, play with lights and exposure settings until the whole backdrop was medium gray with small green and orange areas at the border. Then I switched to the green screen palette and again everything was evenly gray except the boders to areas which were orange or green in the Marshall palette. Those borders had pretty exactly the tone of the backdrop. They actually changed tone as I changed the exposure settings. Now I'm confused...

Could somebody please explain this palette to me or point me to a good explanation? :)

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: Linux love?
February 05, 2015, 10:50:00 AM
For anything else than web, photo/video editing and CG, a GUI for me is only a way to get multiple CLIs open at the same time :D.
If anybody had a sample line how to use dcraw with ffmpeg that would be great!

I did report a bug to ffmpeg but one never knows how fast they fix it. MLV isn't exactly mainstream...

Edit: of course, I COULD push all the DNGs through ImageMagick's convert and make TIF's out of them but that would be a very long additional step in the workflow...

Raw Video Postprocessing / Linux love?
February 04, 2015, 08:38:31 PM
Hi,

so I looked at RAW again after several months of doing other stuff and it's still rather hard. I installed the latest ffmpeg static for Ubuntu 14.04 from ppa:mc3man/trusty-media and guess what... when I try to convert an MLV into anything else, it segfaults. The fuse-based MLVFS works like a charm and I now have a whole ton of DNGs. Which I can't do anything with because again, ffmpeg does not read DNGs, so no way to convert it to something editable like ProRes or so.
Does ANYbody here works regularly on Linux, preferably Ubuntu, and has a preferably simple solution on how to convert MLVs into something I can use with kdenlive or similar?

General Help Q&A / Re: 6D: Chroma keying
February 04, 2015, 06:55:12 PM
I finally figured out what the problem is... It's the gross aliasing and moiré of the 6D. I usually have a 3-day-beard and in all test shots I have been wearing a t-shirt. My backdrop has some slight pattern and so have my walls. Especially my beard and the hair on my arms cause insane aliasing and moiré which leads to totally mushy ruined separation between me and the backdrop.
I have been shooting outside a few times in the meanwhile and under real world conditions, the 6D actually produces very nice quality footage.
Here's a news report I shot, h.264, C-log, right out of cam, no post except cutting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pJVSo3HQAI

Besides, I discovered the false-color/greenscreen option in ML. COOOOOOL stuff! Helps A LOT!!!
