Not totally true. In smaller production houses, if the same person responsible for converting the raw also edits/colors the video then yeah, that can happen. But in larger production houses where those positions are done by different people then no. No one touches color, including WB, before the colorists which is typically after editing and the media is already in a 10 bit ProRes/DNxHD(R)/MXF file.

Professionals are making so much effort in every aspect: light, brightness, color balance, test charts, etc - before they even turn on the camera. Then WB is set into camera. Thats why it is already neutral and absolutely correct.
If they shoot RAW, believe me, no one will mess the colors

Just export in DNG (it's RAW) and use X-Rite section in Davinci, and grade everything in Davinci as RAW. Why do you convert to prores4444 before grading?

There's real time preview by the way. If in framing mode press halfshutter for cropped real time preview.

Yes, I understand what you mean, but what is a real purpose for such a preview? The proportions aren't correct, we can only see a massively stretched top part of an image.

- Refined anamorphic presets so it now gives continuous:
1808x2300(2:35.1) = 5425 x 2300

Wow, this one is awesome! Works without problems.

Hope, sometimes we'll have a realtime liveview to have a possibility to shoot moving objects, not only static frames from tripod.

Thanks for your job!!

MlRawViewer is abandoned and doesn't suuport anymore.
For DNG export try MLV App 1.7 or smth like this.

Raw Video / Re: 6D and 5d mark 3 video options wit ML???
« on: June 11, 2019, 06:04:30 PM »
I don't have a 5d3, so somebody else should confirm.
But I think this post from Alex when announcing the crop_rec 4K build is still relevant for the 5d3 I guess  ???

https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19300.0

For me, the most usable RAW mode in 5d3 is - Full HD with realtime full colored LiveView + Proxy to have an opportunity to playback footage in camera.
50-60 fps modes are ok, but laggy LiveView is very limiting it's usage.

I hope you guys enjoy

I see some strong "ghosting/blurring" on moving objects. Why is it so?

if you shoot raw 60fps 5d iii is the only camera to go.

But only in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, not really continuous (it's on bleeding edge) and no screen preview.... So, it's not really what I would recomend to a person, who wants to shoot interviews. But it's great in 25-30 fps

5D3 is pretty much the flagship ML camera

But it doesn't have a video autofocus

Nice!

I see some flickering of "black bars". Is it youtube compression artifacts?
I've never seen it elsewhere before.

I really like Blackmagic here.

Is there a way to show cropmarks (black bars) but still export full frame?
I shoot 16:9 with 2.35:1 cropmarks. It would be nice to see this layout in MLVApp

General Chat / Re: New Canon EOS R Full Frame Mirrorless Camera
« on: February 10, 2019, 10:36:52 AM »
There is no ML ready for Canon 5DiV or EOSR. So, I assume if @reddeercity get either of them, the porting could really speed up. And it's GOOD for everyone.
On the other hand EOSR is more "future proof". It can handle everything 5DiV can + a lot of other cool features.
According to rumors, in a few days we can see the new Canon EOS RP - cheaper version of EOSR + a lot of new cool RF lenses. And hopefully at the end of this year - a PRO version of EOSR.

Have you seen this thread? https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=22770.0

I'm also interested in this camera. But still not sure if I can live without 5d3 MLV 14-bit RAW capability...

General Chat / Re: BMPCC 4K
« on: February 07, 2019, 06:15:05 PM »
Are there any other ways in which the BMPCC4K is superior in video quality to 5D3 w/ Magic Lantern?

I don't have BMPCC4K and use 5d3 for video.
I think the main advantage of BMPCC4K should be real time preview and playback of the recorded video, as Video RAW is native in this camera. It should have this feature.
Playback in 5d3 right now is almost unusable.

I have a ronin-s with tho handle setup so it’s always a battle to change the settings.

Hi,
What kind of dual handle do you have? Could you show a picture of your setup?

I wasn't looking for a solution to change aperture/iso settings, as I don't actually need it on the fly. I set it up and then shoot.

I've made a Photoshop prototype sketch for DJi dual grip (this is just my thoughts how it could be), and as you can see, there's a tripod leg on the bottom. So, you can easily put it on the floor to change settings of your camera.

Raw Video / Re: Does resolve work for magic lantern raw?
« on: January 28, 2019, 11:04:51 AM »
You can find this panel in Resolve Project Settings, and Camera RAW tab and since I work with CDNGs I go to the CNDG tab and change the settings for how those files will be adjusted with CRaw tools

Camera settings is set the same but with clip instead of project which open up the adjustment sliders but apply all the settings from the general panel.

I then have 2 colorspace transforms with a node where I balance my shot, since it reacts smoother to it in a log space and looks more natural.

Hi allemyr,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm definitely going to try your workflow with my footage.  ;)

But, I'm interested in your opinion with a few questions, first of all:
- why do you choose P3 D60 Color Space?
- why do you reduce sharpness to Resolve's "0"? As I know = 20 (in Resolve) - is a default setting which does nothing to sharpness of the original file. I mean, if you set "0" in Resolve, you actually reduce sharpness of your DNG to negative value.

Regards

The first thing is about not using luts, there are tools (like stills) that are a lot more powerful. The biggest difference is that a LUT "cuts" the signal above and under, while still doesn't.
Then I learned the use of every node and also mixer and splitter node.

The biggest thing that helped me on ml raw is how to manage caching and the color space (input/output/viewer and so on) in the settings.

Then I knew the general workflow to be really faster, like using flags, smart bins, shared nodes, stills managing, caching and optimized media, etc..

It would be really too long to write everything in one post, maybe an entire forum would be needed for that.

Pheraps the fastest thing that made me be more precise is using the 10bit mode for the color picker (even if you have a 10bit monitor, like I have, your eyes can't see what davinci could) abd the thing that made me be faster is lightbox and stills (you can use lightbox to mark your clips with a flag, then correct just one clip, take a still of that clip and paste the still over the similar clips, then use the split window to match with another clip, take still of the new clip and paste over similar clips, then repeat again untill you corrected all the clips, then a couple of shared node and secondary is done).

Thanks for sharing, but it's the general information, what Resolve can do. And it's not difficult to discover these tips reading the manual, or watching video tutorials.
I thought, you could share some tips from your own experience, concerning your workflow with ML.
For example: How to manage caching and the color space (input/output/viewer and so on) in the settings. - for ML footage.

Anyway, thanks

I learned a lot of tricks that made me save hundred hours of worktime

Can you share some of the tricks with us?  ;)

Is there any information which can be useful especially to ML RAW users?

Both images I used the dropper to find the white balance, and both I pushed up the shadow .67.

Resolve looks like absolute garbage....why?

You don't have to blindly copy the settings.
Could you upload the source DNG file (only 1 frame) and JPEG file (edited in Lightroom to your taste).
When I have time, I'll try to match it in Resolve.

I noticed also that what is reliable is to « double tap » the RoninS REC button to start recording. Same thing to stop recording.

Yes, double tap for Start/Stop. Three taps for Start (if proxy enabled), and one tap to Stop (if proxy enabled).
