HDR and Dual ISO Postprocessing / Re: dual_iso with linux
« on: October 12, 2014, 09:15:22 PM »
Thanks.  Yes I noticed that when I increase exposure there is minimal noise.  Also I didn't ETTR so I"m sure I'm not getting full benefit.  Yes Wine works perfectly well and I'll just stick with it.

HDR and Dual ISO Postprocessing / dual_iso with linux
« on: October 09, 2014, 07:15:09 PM »
Sorry if this post is already present - I'm not able to find a similar posting:

I accidentally left the dual_iso function set for most of my shots which was for a very important anniversary celebration.  With the help of wine, I was able to process them to DNGs using cr2hdr.exe.  The pictures look fine and no different than any of the other pictures I took without this setting.  Some have a high dynamic range and others do not but I was hoping to take advantage of this accident and show improved pictures for those with the high dynamic range.  So I took the shots with the same exposure setting as I would normally use (without the dual_iso setting).  I was wondering if I have done exactly what I'm supposed to do with "wine cr2hdr.exe [files]" or is there an extra step I'm supposed to take?  The processing got rid of the lines which I"m assuming are the dual iso settings but there are still over-exposed and under-exposed portions of the image.

Also, is there a linux alternative I should be using?

I'm post-processing using Darktable.

I'm using the Linux .elf binary and get a window with almost invisibly small fonts.  Any ideas?  I'm using Mint 16 with xfce.  See screenshot.  Thanks!

Raw Video Postprocessing / darktable / linux

I have been using Darktable to edit my dng files with success but rather abruptly it has started to crash (who knows what automatic update fixed this one....) and now it will not open up any dng's.  Has anyone had a similar experience?  I've gone to a number of forums, specifically the google+ have not had any problems with this.  I'm using xfce desktop with Mint 16.  I really like Darktable because I can make changes to one image and apply them to all the other frames too.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: ML RAW-tools for Linux

I used the ffmpeg command suggested to convert tiffs to final movie.  Unfortunately I wasn't successful - I did substitute jpg for tiff.  Here is the printout plus my command:

ffmpeg -f image2 -i ~/FFMPEG_IN/*.jpg -vcodec prores -profile 3  -qscale: v 1 ~\FFMPEG_OUT\
ffmpeg version 0.8.10-6:0.8.10-0ubuntu0.13.10.1, Copyright (c) 2000-2013 the Libav developers
  built on Feb  6 2014 20:53:28 with gcc 4.8.1
This program is only provided for compatibility and will be removed in a future release. Please use avconv instead.

Wow, this is a lot of work for a 24 sec video:)

Thanks in advance!

Raw Video Postprocessing / linux post-processing question
« on: March 20, 2014, 04:16:41 PM »
I was happy to get two 4gig plus samples of raw video at 960x544 with my 600d.  Previous tests saved videos as RAW but now they are saved as multiple DNG files - I'm not sure why.  Anyway the post-processing tools for linux want to start with RAW first.  I'm not sure how to get these into a viewable video format.  Thanks in advance.

I'm using TL 2.0.

Feature Requests / Re: [INVALID] crop mode for still images
« on: March 20, 2014, 06:05:57 AM »
Thanks for all the replies.  To "ItsMeLenny", correct me if I"m wrong - I thought the crop mode does not crop the original image but is a crop of the sensor - so editing in post would reduce the mega pixels..I'm trying to figure this out.  I read that the 600d 3x crop does not affect the resolution.

Feature Requests / [INVALID] crop mode for still images

I would love to have the functionality to shoot still images in crop mode like with videos.  From what I can tell - this is not implemented (?)  I'm using a 600D with TL 2.

General Help Q&A / Re: tiny menu display

I have only installed the stable supported version.

General Help Q&A / tiny menu display
« on: February 27, 2014, 12:32:18 AM »
I've just installed ML but the menu display is considerably smaller than any instructional video or other pictures I've seen.  Sorry if the solution is obvious but I'm unable to figure it out.  Everything seems to work but it would be nice not have to slip on glasses every time I use the camera!  I"ve noticed the menu items have a thick and bold look - not mine.

Thanks in advance.
