HELP

hey all
hope someone can help
i have a 5d mark 3 with 1.3.6 firmware.

Is there any way i can downgrade the firmware to 1.2.3

Yes, this is from the ML 5D MKIII nightly Build page and it works:

Downgrading from 1.3.6 is possible, but tricky.

Whatever you do, do not remove the battery in the middle of a firmware update!

____________________________________________________________

One single card required, either SD or CF, source, discussion):

copy firmware 1.3.6 (5D300136.FIR) to the card

launch Update Firmware from Canon menu, click OK

open the battery door ASAP, but don't remove the battery!

if you did it right, the camera will turn off (wait for a few seconds to make sure it's really off)

if you see the Firmware Update Program Loading screen, it means you have opened the battery door a bit too late; wait until the camera turns off and try again!

open the card door and remove the card from the camera (do not close the battery door; also leave the power switch on; the camera should stay off)

copy firmware 1.2.3 (5D300123.FIR) to the card

put the card back into the camera, close the card door

you may leave the original 1.3.6 FIR on the card, or you may delete it; doesn't matter

close the battery door; you should see the Firmware Update Program Loading screen

if you get an error message at this step, remove the battery and reboot

confirm the firmware downgrade from 1.3.6 to 1.2.3

a successful downgrade should take about 4 minutes.

I have done this so I know it works.

This is the most important step: open the battery door ASAP, but don't remove the battery! - ASAP means immediately. ANY delay and this will not work. But it does not do damage, just means you have to try again but faster!

Walter Schulz wrote: "Use your OS (Windows or OS X) if you want to apply ExFAT file system to your CF-card."

This has never worked for me. I get the same thing others are reporting about. I re-formatted all of the cards using SDFormatter, and the "Problem" went away. I thought like Walter it was the same, but not for me. This is on a Windows 7 computer.

This is the link for SDFormatter:

"HDMI framerate was set to auto"

You need to set the frame rate to 24 or 60, never Auto.

The Star will work just fine. If you are shooting in RAW, it will NOT automatically start and stop with the camera so you will need to push both record buttons. If you are shooting w/o RAW, you can set the camera and the Atomos recorder so the Star will auto record and stop to match the recording on the camera.

Same problem, I can record to the Atomos automatically when not recording RAW, but not when is is in RAW (Which is why I bought the Atomos). I can still push both recording buttons. Any ideas or a setting I'm not aware of?

Thanks!

I have this same problem on both of my 5D MKIII cameras. The work-a-round is to turn off the camera, remove the CF card, remove the battery, reinsert the battery, turn on the camera and wait for the camera to say "No card in camera". Then insert the CF card. This usually works. But on of my cameras finally quit and Canon said the CF card PCB(Printed Circuit Board) needed replacing.

Now my second camera is giving me the same message.

DjJuvan, what converter did you use and what settings did you use? I have the same issues in grossly over exposed areas when I shoot at night and have a strong light in the scene. Thanks!

Where should I post a crash report?

Thanks!

I have 2 of these and will buy more. Not one problem shooting on a 5D MKIII ML RAW. I have had other cards fail so it is possible. One thing I do on all of my card is run "Secure Erase" (Lexar software but Sandisk has an identical product, just a different name). Most of flash memory issues are caused by having a file fragment left on the card. Secure erase removes every bit of information from every cell. It becomes just like it was new. I run this on all of my cards about every 3-4 months. For the 128GB card it will take about 12-14 hours to run a Secure Erase.

I also use SD Formatter so they will run in the exFAT format, it does make a difference in the write speed.

Yes, tiff is best.

Why TIFF? A PSD of the same file will be smaller due to it's ability to have lossless compression plus it is a native Photoshop file meaning it will open and save quicker.

Tonybeccar,

Just having the viewer alone is a HUGE help, thanks!

I have an error message:
