Many thanks. I'll have a look at the wording when I get back next week.

OK. Thanks. The menu option is a bit confusing. It says that LV and sensor are turned off in power saving mode. What you say makes sense.

I've been testing the 7D battery to see how the charge lasts using ML motion detect (frame difference) and with the power saving feature
set to sensor =off LV = off.
The result was a little disappointing as the charge only lasted 2 hours during which the camera took 60 photos (RAW), manual focus. The good news is that the camera stayed cool.

My 7D will overheat if I run MOTION DETECT - EXPOSURE DETECT for over 20 mins. Is there any way I can run exposure detect in power saving mode or does exposure detect need the sensor turned on? Has anyone got a solution to this problem?

OK problem solved with latest ML software. Works perfectly! :)

Thanks! You  explained these problems very well. Having watched video tutorials for other Canon cameras it seems some of them have much better designed menus.
Development of the ML software for the 7D is a long way behind unfortunately. :'(

General Help Q&A / Re: live view motion detect

Sorry. Can't try it yet as I have a 7D and I have been waiting for the Magic Lantern software to be fully developed. The reason I would like to know the answer now, is that there are alternative solutions for motion detection e.g. Pocket Wizard. Unfortunately the alternatives are expensive and not as elegant.
Let's say that I am curious about the ML's capabilities. :)

Does the live view motion detect feature only take one photo, or does it reset automatically and take another next time there is a movement?

General Help Q&A / 7D Motion detect

I have been watching the information page on the problems Magic Lantern is having developing software for the 7D. I was hoping that if the problems are insurmountable, perhaps just enabling a motion detect feature may be possible?
I am sure many wildlife photographers would be absolutely delighted with this, if it can be done.
