Playback is playback, photo is when you set your camera to take photos, movie is when you set your camera to record videos.

How do I create a benchmark in playback mode? I can only access the ML menu when I'm in photo mode, or LV mode. Thanks!

According to the test, it says that I did it in 'photo' mode. How would I go about doing it in playback mode? Is playback mode otherwise known as lv mode? The more I am researching these benchmark tests, the less worried I'm getting. I figured about a minute of rec time in 1880 is pretty decent.

Thanks for the info, Ted. I can't seem to get my Lexar 32gb 1000x benchmark tests over 75MB/s. Did you format the Lexar card in any particular way on your computer, before installing magic lantern?

As mentioned in another thread, you can't do long recordings at that resolution you are using on the 5D2, only at around 23 to 30 plus seconds.

Interesting. Somehow I manage to get an average of 60 seconds, sometimes more, using 1880 16:9 resolution.

What version/date of ML are you using? Did you download from the official nightlies here: http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/

Or are you using a.d.'s compile from here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5533.0


Also, you don't turn ON raw_rec and MLV_rec at the same time or you get errors. Just choose one.

I am using the files from a.d.'s compile, also using the 2/14 version. Ah, I felt like having both modules on at once would affect something.

As said before your mileage may vary but I have seen several people post speeds over 79MB/s with raw_rec, including myself.

What is your average speed of your card? Also, if I were to put my card into a 5D3 with ML, and then do a benchmark test, would the speeds be faster than benchmark tests on a 5D2?

Just to be clear, is your canon settings set to 24fps as well?

There are multitudes of setting combinations. What is your resolution?

Provide a breakdown of how you set up your camera/canon settings and how you set up ML.

Yes, my canon settings are set to 24fps.

My resolution is at 1880x1058. Frame skipping set to off, raw_rec and mlv_rec modules turned on. Smallhacks is turned on. Global draw is turned off. I hope this is enough info. Thanks!

Alright, so I'm new to this RAW ML on my 5D Mark 2. I did some test shots earlier, and oh my--the quality is stunning! I did, however, notice some weird skipping around and glitching in my finalized video. I think it might be frame skipping? But at the same time I feel like it couldn't be, since I have Frame Skipping set to OFF, and I have a fast Lexar 1000x card. Can anyone suggest the best way to set up true 23.976 fps? Is it something to do with FPS Override in the ML menu? Thanks guys.

No that sounds a little low for a Lexar, I have 2 Lexar 1000x cards
32 & 64 GB . I see write speeds around 72-78MB/s in Crop mode.
And around 63-69MB/s in non crop mode, for comparison 
With mlv format with audio I can capture about 1000-1200 frame
At 1856x1004 23.976p & 1872x936 is continous , without HDMI device.
If run the old raw format , from Oct24th  from a.d.'s 5d2 builds
I was able to get @ 1872x1250 23.976p for about 1000-1200 frames
I don't judge my cards by the benchmark, but buy the largest frames size
I can do for the longest time .
The bottleneck here Is the CF Card controller , I never seen or heard anyone
Getting better then 78MB/s on the 5D2.

that resolution is not sustainable on the mkII. Try 1856x928 or 1728x972 16:9 . They should be good.

This information doesn't really help. I'm trying to figure out if my card is defective, not trying to figure out which resolutions work with my 5D2.

Hey guys, so I decided to jump on the 5D RAW train. I've got a 5D Mark II. I bought a Lexar 1000x 32GB CF, and decided to do a few benchmark tests, to see if it showed speeds at around the "guaranteed" transfer speeds at 150mb/s. After multiple tests, I am averaging between 55-65 write speeds, and between 70-80 read speed. Is it just me, or is this really low for this card? I was expecting something at least over 100mb/s. I've turned live view off, turned off the raw photo, and the global draw is off. Is their something that I am missing? Or does it sound like a defective card? I can record in the highest resolution for about a minute, until it automatically stops. If anyone could help me out, that would be great. I'm new to this stuff so any tips would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
