Hello, I would like to export files to some losless format like tiff or dng. How can I do it? I changed "jpeg" in bat to "tiff" but it didn't change anything.

Still waiting for update of v11. Any news?

Hi guys! And thank you Escho! What a good news I can tune my camera again! And thanks to all ML team. Happy shooting! ;)

Hello. I just wanted to ask what is the situation with the 600D. Why we have not specific thread anymore? Are there problems with that model? Will there be any updates? Some official info on the forum could be good. Thanks.

Simple and short answer - No.

Best
David.

*Beep* Wrong! Yes, WB has impact on the footage/photo. You can still get more cold or warm photos when shooting RAW. Good news it is just some part of data, not the image itself, so it just sets this data in RAW-processing software when you open image, and you can easily modify it without any impact on image. But! You have to pay careful attention on that while editing RAW files, as software will automatically set WB for the photo, and you can get too cold or too warm photos after exporting, remember to adjust the settings and then do the rest corrections! You're welcome. :)

It is a RAW engine, like a ACR, but open source and better: https://www.rawtherapee.com

But unfortunately I don't recommend this one. Debayering in RT sucks (it introduces a lot of noise into images). Much better one with a lot more options, much deeper control is Photivo, which I use a lot and it won't disappoint you. It's quite different in UI, but you can deal with it after a bit of trying it out.

This is a side by side crop of the chart shot at 2048 x 930.

If you use resolve's default sharpening it makes you "see"  a perception of more aliasing but in fact it enhances the edges and make it seem so. Resolve has a high default sharpening so lower it just as you would in acr.
Contrast settings also increase the preception of different aliasing behavior between the same image.

It looks clearly like Resolve is better.

Yeah, pink frames were gone few nigltlies back in time, but newest versions are pink-infected again.. :(
I own 600D, you guys know any solutions?

Hello,
I just started using the ML hack and I'm  bit confused at the results I'm getting. I have the 600D, 50mbps 32GB SD card. I'm running into two issues. When set to the lowest resolution, I'm still getting the error code "recording stopped automaticlly" and my footage is either extremely zoomed in or excessively cropped. Can someone post a simple check list for the best working settings for this camera? I'm sure that I'm just overlooking something.
Thanks!

Unfortunately 600D has quite a low write speeds (max 21 mb/s), so it is not possible to shoot in high resolutions and if it is too big, you can shoot only limited frames. At tme moment you can check best settings (for 16:9 aspect ratio) in this web file:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgQ2MOkAZTFHdFFIcFp1d0R5TzVPTVJXOEVyUndteGc#gid=5

You have to experiment and find what suits you the best. You have to decide what aspect ratio you want either, as it is possible to shoot higher resolutions if you set more wide aspect ratios (like 2.35:1 to 2.67:1).

Duplicate Questions / H.264 custom resolutions
February 21, 2014, 01:57:00 AM
Is there any option to set custom aspect ratio and resolution in H.264 video? I don't mean those in canon menu, but highly customizable, like in RAW menu...

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10601.0

Is this possible?
#12
Hello, can we hope for an option of custom H.264 resolutions and aspect ratios (similar to those in RAW menu)?

It would make recording with H.264 much better. For example recording with widescreen 2.39, without sound (separate device) and with highered CBR buffer we could get some interesting quality, maybe just a bit comparable to RAW. What do you guys think?

Cheers!
#13
@jetrotal - exactly!

BTW, I think if it is possible to make available changing recording resolutions for H.264. If we could get higher buffer/without sound/2.39 widescreen, maybe final quality could be somparable to RAW. What do you guys think?

No problem with 600D and rawtherapee here. But I prefer to use darktable.

Edgar
Check twice, I assure you you'd have much more noise with RT. I use up to date ML nightlies (no TL) and newest RT. I'm checking Darktable already. Thanks! No windows version... :( So I assume Photivo is best solution for free RAW processing to the date..

Could anyone provide me a link to most up-to-date mlv-dump, mlv2dng etc directory? I'm going all around the forum and can't find such a thread. It would be great to create one (all-in-one downloads). Thanks!

General Development / Re: New memory backend
February 17, 2014, 01:56:03 AM
Sorry for posting (as I'm not dev) here, but maybe there could be a chance to use this memory to hold on data that slower cameras (like 600d) could not write enough fast..? :) This could be stupid idea, just sayin.. Sorry!

I also have no idea what you mean, please define "horizontal squeezing" mathematically or with pseudo-code. How exactly do you get from 1280 to 1000? throw away some pixels (aka line skipping, or in this case 'column' skipping)? bilinear interpolation? magic?
I have never seen a "squeezing" option anywhere

Open canon menu and change recording resolution to 720p 50fps. Now get back to ML menu -> recording -> raw video/mlv video -> resolution. Now you will get vertically lower resolution and info: "stretch vertically in post by 1.44 to get proper resolution of xxx". :)

However, you are setting a horizontally oblong pixel aspect ratio in your camera, while setting the same pixel aspect ratio somewhere in post.

You name it. :)

I think that I am beginning to understand what you want.  "Squeezing" during shooting and "expanding" in post are misnomers.

What you actually seem to be proposing is to change the aspect ratio of the pixel so that there are fewer pixels on the horizontal axis.  This would create, effectively, rectangular pixels which are longer on the horizontal axis.

If so, there probably would have to be some sort of pixel binning or pixel skipping of the raw data done within the camera.

That's it. I'm proposing to narrow images (yeah, pixel aspect ratio could be changed) to write them while recording, and to stretch them to proper aspect in post. I don't think about line skipping though, because it will of course destroy image. What I mean is to compres/resize them during recording as it is done while you record in 720p.

There's no room for subtracting/cropping/dividing/skipping raw-data, because there's no "processing-unit" between sensor-output and memory-controller - thus, i'd say, not possible - but a1ex and the masters of hardware should tell us..

regards chmee

It is possible, because you already can shoot with vertical squeezing in 720p 50fps setting, as I mentioned before.

I am fairly sure that ML/TL users are already doing this.

As I understand it, in the instances in which it is possible to use ML/TL to change the aspect ratio to more of a 4:3 or square format, one can sometimes increase the actual vertical resolution (to higher than 720) while using anamorphic optics (oriented horizontally), so as to get a greater effective resolution overall.

Yeah, but we are not talking about anamorphic lenses. It is just an idea for a little compression to get better resolution in effect.

I don't understand what you're asking.

You are recording squeezed video: e.g. you're recording 1280x720 but squeezed to for example 1000x720. It gives you more buffer. You can stretch video in post to get 1280 horizontal res.

Hello all!

I am preparing my 600d for optimum options to get most of it for my future film. And as there was day like everyday, an idea came across my mind when I noticed the "anamorphic" option in ML menu.

Now what I think would be a good idea is to be able to record squeezed horizontaly RAW video. What makes horizontal squeezing better then vertical is - you don't loose so much quality, because there is no line skipping. So you get no aliasing. The only quality loss you could notice is when horizontally stretching the image, but if the ratio isn't too big (e.g. 1.2-1.3), you could handle any "artifacts" with resampling engines in RAW processing software (lightroom, Blow Up 3 etc). But! If we could save some pixels horizontally, maybe (!) you could just get this HD finally in 600d RAW! I'm definitely looking for it, I think it would be a really big improvement for our sad 21 MB/s buffer.

BTW. I wanted to mention this is not totally new feature as you still get vertical squeezing when using 720p 50fps option in Canon menu. So... this is quite good, but as I said - vertical squeezing destroys the image (aliasing), and horizontal - not so much! I hope we dould get it working, lovely idea. What you think guys?

Cheers!

Can up. some sample?

For samples just run your own RawTherapee and compare it to what you see in pure DNG. BTW, nvm, I've solved the problem with Photivo, it rocks and beats every free tool I used. Check it out!
