The link was dead so I refreshed it.

How did you do the fireworks? That was cool.

Aleks, have you tried making an Output Module?

Scripting Q&A / Re: Bracketing with flash

Maybe an Lua script could do this (just a guess). But probably no one would do it for just your private use (or for money). This is an open source community. Try posting a request on the feature requests thread or an Lua scripting thread.

I have been away for awhile and am checking in briefly, but I saw a comment about the screen freezing in 5x crop mode, so I thought I'd mention the way I deal with this (when using an old 12-bit raw 7D experimental build): Just before I hit the "START STOP" button to begin a shot, I hit the "INFO" button four times to cycle through the various modes until I'm back at the original mode.

Nice, and a bonus is that now there is competition which may spur quicker progress.

The download link appears to be dead.

"Has anyone had confirmed success with the 7D?"
Yes, but only in zoom crop mode.

As far as the frame tearing issue, I saw it on nightly builds a while back on my 7D in crop mode and eliminated it by not using the accurate preview (ml greyscale). It was suggested that processor overload was responsible.

Quotebut panning, I get a cut line in the top part of the frame, only with panning! it dissapears in static frames.

In other contexts, this was theorized to be a symptom of overloading the processor. I used to get it with greyscale ml preview on my 7D in 5x crop mode.

Thank you so much for everything you've done! Now, not to be demanding, but 16K is obviously doable so when can we expect it?

Raw Video / Re: 7d uncrop 5x footege

Not sure what you mean. In my experience "cropped" means using less than the whole frame, as in shooting "crop mode." In that case there is no need to stretch the video. Are you talking about some kind of anamorphic shooting where the aspect ratio has to be corrected?

What are you trying to do?
1 - Re-size 2k to 1920x1080?
2 - Edit 2k as 2k?

Here's the 136 frame raw file that is seen as 873 frames:

Tested on 7D.

~ Used 2 sec delay
~ Video was 136 frames (0-135) but was reported as 873 frames by mlv_play (and by MlRawViewer). Is it possible it is counting the time from the first button push?
~ Last frame (135) has a pink band running across the very bottom of the image
~ The two anomalies do not make the feature unusable.

This is a wonderful feature. If it could be added to mlv with 10/12 bit recording it would be even better.

I'm having trouble with it. Maybe this link will work:

Danne, there's not much to it.
1 - Put the dark frame above the video (or photo) and set the blending mode to "subtract."
2 - Adjust the dark frame's opacity if needed. Sometimes 100% works fine.
3 - After a1ex's tip about linearity, I tried applying the "curves" effect to the dark frame and found a curve that seemed to result in equal FPN reduction in light and dark areas of the noisy image. Below is a picture of it. Maybe it will need to be adjusted for every image.
#43
Jedi: Thanks for the tip. I'm on Windows though so can't use Danne's app.

a1ex: In my current workflow (with After Effects) I found that if I apply a curves effect to the dark frame I can adjust its "linearity" to improve matters. A more perfect solution will have to wait for another day.

a1ex, thanks for the insight! I will explore that possibility.

I make my own dark frames to remove FPN rather than using the tools people have shared here, but I hope my question is still generally relevant and is somewhat apples to apples (even if perhaps McIntosh to Granny Smith).

It seems as though when subtracting the dark frames, a crucial decision is how strongly to apply them. So in Photoshop or After Effects for example, after putting the dark frame layer above the video layer and setting the blending mode to "subtract," you would adjust the dark frame's opacity to the value that removes the most FPN.

What I have noticed is that there is inevitably a compromise between FPN vertical lines in the lighter areas and the darker ones. As you reduce the opacity the lighter areas improve but the darker ones get worse. Obviously this is most problematic in high-contrast scenes.

My question: Is this a general characteristic of all dark frames?

"...so I dont know how much space I have left in the CF Card"

The only way I know is to turn the camera off and on again. Then the card space will read correctly.

Lovely. Crop mode really shines for this kind of shooting.
#48
dfort, if you mean regular classic 5x zoom crop mode, then yes the 7D has that feature and 10 and 12 bit have no corruption issues when using that mode.

Brawl,

It's up to you what is "important." If you would rather have a blown out sky than an underexposed actor then expose accordingly. This is where artistry informs technique.
#50
Yes, the 7D works fine (for my purposes) in 5x crop mode with the exception of not having true live framing (but I wasn't using that even with 14 bit). I have seen no corruption issues in crop mode with 10 and 12 bit.
